I worked my way through college working for a recording studio driving a limo at night and used to drive around a lot of peps in and out of Manhattan, Rush and they're wimmens were lamo to some of the stuff I saw. Paid to go shopping in NYC while in town.

/ Isley Brothers and Cool and the Gang were family, Southside Johnny and Meatloaf were wrecks.

//Southside had lost everything at the time.

Musicians and recording engineers tend to like Rush, in my experience. Trained ears

I'm enjoying this almost as much as I'm enjoying learning the middle of "Red Barchetta" in the Friday night jam band I'm in.

Majick Thise: I love both those bands!

I like some Eagles songs - those that haven't been flogged to death on the wireless. The wireless stations in my neighborhood seem to latch on to 2 or 3 songs from a performer and play them over and over again until I can't stand to hear them anymore. For the Eagles it's Lyin' Eyes and Take it Easy. They are now instant switch the farking radio off songs.

I know no Rush songs. They never seemed to get played down here.

OK, I have often wondered what the best possible tattoo I could get would be.  Now this one is taken and I hadn't even thought of it.

Two of my favourites are off this album: The Enemy Within (Part I of Fear) and The Body Electric.

Could never get past that point to care about the rest of the band one way or the other.

I don't understand what I just wasted my time reading.

Most hated band?

Hardly. I haven't heard a musician yet who *doesn't* like them. over 40 years since they formed, and they're STILL selling out large venues.

Most hated band?

Nickelback. And I don't even understand *that*, either.

I'm sorry, but "Hotel California" has one of the worst guitar solos ever for a supergroup.  Too pattern based, and just too damn long.

I like a number of Rush songs, but I have a particular fondness for "Dreamline." First time I heard it I was old enough to know that my limited time for immortality had passed but young enough to still clearly remember doing risky stuff because I knew, in that moment, that nothing would hurt me.

Anyway, here's a link (I'm on a mobile, so it may not paste perfectly):

It's okay to not like Rush.

I happen to like them, but I'm cool with those who don't. I'm sure they like stuff I don't. So what?

It's a big world and there's room enough for us all.

Rush sucks. 'cept maybe for fly by night and working man. meh. i'll give tom sawyer too, I suppose, just to be nice.

The eagles have occasional weird gems you never hear on the radio. unlike hotel california which if I ever hear again I will pull my car over and kill the nearest person accusing them of being don henley before I stab my ear drums repeatedly with a pencil.

Heh. I love showing that tattoo at Rush concerts, so many Starman tatts and whatnot, mine is one of the more obscure Rush tattoos (how many Rush fans actually recognize the p/g?)

Yeah, but Hotel California is actually a gem - it's just been overplayed. I consider it one of the best pop songs of all time.

They have plenty of instrumentals (YYZ, Where's My Thing, The Main Monkey Business, etc). Try listening to those to get a better feel for what they can do musically.

I'm of the opinion that the Hotel California album is an accidental masterpiece: it's a bunch of drug-addled egoistical fark-ups who just happened to make an album that perfectly catches the mood of the time and the place - LA in the mid-1970s.

If you like weird gems, check out 97.1 The Drive "Deep Tracks" on Tune-in. It's an entire station dedicated to the hidden gems that never get airtime.

Sorry
Rush has huge talent, but I don't like the vocals. Something about it doesn't mesh with the music for me.

I do enjoy the eagles though, even what is overplayed.

Also, tattooing bands and album art on yourself is farking retarded. I guess if you simply have to tell everyone you like band x then it saves you time to ink it though.

I never understood getting the name of a band tattooed, unless you were actually in the band. Otherwise, you may feel stupid if your tastes change.

Can't say I've ever been a big Rush fan, but I wasn't aware people had an inexplicable hatred for them, I was also unaware that they "got constant airplay, way out of proportion to their actual record sales". Back in the 70s and 80s I never heard their songs on the radio very often, to my recollection they only had a few hits and they got appropriate air time in my opinion.

Add me to the list. We are almost to the point in music where I always wanted. I always wanted to hear The original RUSH instrumental tracks with an actual singer instead of Geddy Lee. I might actually like it, but I'll never know unless I hear a Geddy-less vocals. We already have "And Justice For Jason" which is And Justice For All by Metallica with an actual bass track you can hear (with either Newstead's bass turned up or all new bass tracks added). I'd like to hear St. Anger with actual drums on it instead of Lars banging on a garbage can for the whole album (an album I immediately sold after the first listen through...something I have never done before or since).

We're at almost to the point where we as fans can remove the shiat parts of classic or well liked albums and make them perfect. Rock Band allowed people access to individual tracks from a song. If the music industry wants to make a shiat ton of money, they should allow access to master tracks. They aren't quite desperate enough yet, but they are getting there.
