It's his own fault for not going for it and throwing that thing through the back wall of the place. You gotta man up for perfection.

When I was in bowling league five or six years ago, I watched a guy bowl a 299. A big crowd had gathered by his last frame, and he missed one pin on his last roll. He took it in stride ("I'll get you next time!"), and everyone cheered when an employee retrieved the pin he missed and gave it to him.

Good times, good times.

Why can he just throw it again and call it a 300 if all the pins fall?

He did.  Got 7.

Yeah... and I bet he knows whether or not the rack-drop shot would have been there. You pretty much know when you throw it if the ball is hitting the pocket square. You might still leave a 10 or a hard 8, but when I'm "on" I can tell pretty much what I'm going to leave as soon as I release the ball.

/tugged it? Leaving a 4.
//little bit flat? Spiking a 10.
///Pulled it Brooklyn? Totally my 12th strike in my 300.

The 11th in mine was a miracle.  Crossed over and left the 2 (I'm a lefty), for God's sake!  A pin came from nowhere and snagged it.

I've been witness to my fair share of 300's (my dad has thrown quite a few). Kudos to the guy for the 11 in a row, but that bar coming down probably screwed up his rhythm, which led to the pulled ball.

I only once in my my life ever saw a guy bowl a 300.  He was just some normal league bowler.  I was there shooting pool.  But I couldn't help but notice around the 7th frame when the crowd gathered around.

It was pretty intense to see him make that final strike!  I thought he was going to have a damn heart attack!

/closest I ever got was on Wii Sports.  I missed the last strike for a 299.  I was like, "SHIAT!!"

I was bowling with a friend of a friend who was a damn good bowler, but had never gotten a 300.  We saw him get 16 strikes in a row. Too bad 9 of them were in one game, and 7 in the next.

Excellent!  I just saw that episode this weekend on IFC.  Was hoping to see a picture of Malcolm caught in the rack.

If you have never been in an ally on league night when someone is coming up on a 300 game it is quite a sight. The entire ally goes quiet and no one else bowls. Sometimes I think that might add more stress than if folks kept bowling.

Bowled a 298 with a house ball once.  Let go too early and left the 6 and 10.

Then I sat down and ate the chicken tenders I'd been eyeing since they were delivered earlier in the game.  Their tenders are awesome.

So, that happened.

My average is around 110.  I've had people tell me that's pretty good, but I bowl with friends who average 160~170.

I was sick of bowling by about week 10, by week 30 i was almost homicidal.  At this point I am upset that I live in a town that has a bowling alley.

Are you an 80 year old woman? If not, are you talking about candlepin bowling? If not, did you get your "pretty good" compliment from someone who is currently president of the united states?

/not a good bowler myself, but i know that 110 is not a pretty good average.

I know 110 isn't "pretty good", that's why I found it funny.
I don't bowl very often.  Once a month or so.  I don't have my own ball and don't practice.

This guy was much too even-keeled.  I would have rioted.

I look forward to the first perfect game of candlepin bowling, i.e., real bowling.
