How does a cemetery befriend a dog?

It's hard to fathom why anyone would do something like that. For heaven's sake, she'd walk right up to you.

Maybe that's the reason. What would YOU do if some upitty deer just started walkin' up to you like she owned the place? You'd shoot that smug farker, that's what you'd do.

D'oh! A deer! A female deer.

For fark's sake, that's sad.  What kind of asshole does something like that?  I'm all for hunting, especially deer since we've killed off all their natural predators, but shooting a deer at a cemetery and leaving the carcass isn't hunting, it's just asshole.

Assholes. Assholes everywhere.

Around the 4th this year some assholes decided it would be fun to scare some folks' pet goats with fireworks. To the point where they literally frightened one to death.

Assholes.

Seriously, the deer hung out in a place where 21-gun salutes happen. WTF did she expect?

There's a big difference between gun owners, gun nuts, and your garden-variety dick.

The person who did this is certifiably the last of the three. Lock him/her in stocks at center field at Arrowhead and let the town farter unleash his wrath.

Sad thing is that this was front page news but last week another kid was killed in KC and it didn't even make the newspaper.

2013-08-07 01:22:26 AM
Deer in urban environments can be a hazard to the public. Most deer aren't too friendly toward people; they can actually eviscerate a person with their hooves.

KC has an absolute infestation of deer. People feed the deer; so the deer approach people; potentially causing harm to either the animal or the person.

I know they're fuzzy; but, that's no excuse to screw with the natural order. Plus, with deer, come mountian lions. The dept. of wildlife and fisheries refuses to acknolage the possibility of mountian lions making permanent homes in the plaines states; despite overwhelming photographic evidence to the contrary.

/ the fuzzy deer; while friendly; was a potential agent of harm. What if some rutting buck smelled her and decided it wanted to fight and injure a human?

This reminds me of the story a couple of years back when people snuck unto a Reservation and killed a baby white buffalo. Cowardly shiatsacks.

It's just a sad and pathetic thing for someone to do, harming a virtually helpless animal (helpless in the sense that Ella didn't fear humans, she even seemed to like us, and she wouldn't run or try to defend herself).

It's especially sad when you consider that she lived her entire life in that cemetery. That was her safe place. I imagine the sight of her raised a lot of sad people's spirits over the few months she lived there.

Actually, due to the colon and comma usage, this sentence correctly attributes the subject/ verb agreement of "mascot" to "befriend".

She was such a gentle creature. It's hard to fathom why anyone would do something like that

Because it was in Kansas.  I've never met such an abundance of vile, immoral people in all the places I have lived in this country.

Back when I was a teenager I once stopped near my house on the side of the road because I saw a turtle walking across.  I was going to scoop it up and carry to the other side.  The road was four lanes but empty, save one car coming from the other direction.  I patiently waited for it to pass as I didn't want to walk out into the road while a car was around.  The driver saw me standing there, saw the turtle, put two and two together and thought the best course of action was to swerve across three lanes to drive on the wrong side of the road to hit the turtle.  He did it because it was a living thing he could get away with killing and I had shown some sense of compassion toward it.

That's everything you need to know about the people of Kansas.  I know this happens in other places, but not nearly as often as I've seen it here.  The guys who killed the deer?  They're laughing.  I guarantee it.

Actually, Elmwood cemetery is in the east part of Kansas City, MO. Not too far from the state of Kansas. But beside all that, you are right. Unfortunately. Kansas is a sad place in many ways. Missouri is not too far off in mean spiritedness.

I find it unlikely that the person is a legal gun owner.

I took a look at the neighborhood on Google Earth.  It's not quite Detroit levels of urban decay, but it's in a very urban area, with ratty looking industrial sites to the north and west, and rather unkempt housing to the east, and mixed business/housing to the south.  Those businesses include a Family Dollar, and a car dealer whose sign says "We Finance Anyone".

Further support for my thesis:

As of November 2012, Kansas City ranks 18th on the Federal Bureau of Investigation's annual survey of crime rates for cities with populations over 100,000.[78]

Much of the city's violent crimes occur on the city's lower income East Side.

This cemetery is in the East Side.
