It's an unfortunate truth that all videos like this must now be proven absolutely true beyond a shadow of a doubt before they can be believed. Until that happens, they must be assumed to be fake, posed, trolling, etc.

He proposed to her in New Britain, the anus of Connecticut.  I'm not surprised by this.

Although the Rock Cats have had some excellent players go through their system.

I take that approach to everything on the intertubes.

Always seemed to me the guys who do it are thinking "Oh boy, if i do it here she can't possibly say no" so it's a bit of a dick move in the first place. Good job to any woman who doesn't give in.

I've heard tale of people proposing on Twitter. How romantic.

I personally blame the internet for making people actually believe that the bigger the gesture the more affirmative the yes is. And romantic comedies.

Yeah, nothing like ruining a special, intimate moment by doing it at a stupid farking game.  Real or fake, anyone who does this is a dipshiat.

I wouldn't even have told my girlfriend "I love you" for the first time at a sporting event, what makes anyone think it's okay to say something as important and life changing as "will you marry me?" at such a place?

I could only see it, if for some reason that team/park was a part of their dating history-- like they're both super-intense fans of that particular team, and they meet each other at a game.

Otherwise it's just a really shiatty engagement story.

2013-08-06 01:29:04 PM
I've personally seen this happen at a college basketball game. He's down on one knee proposing, and she just screams "NO! I can't believe you asked me that you a**hole" and runs out of the building screaming and crying. You could hear a pin drop. He staggered to his feet, mouth agape and in total total shock, and just stumbled back to his seat. Most humiliating thing I've ever seen.

That's why you have to take a nice romantic hike somewhere that bears live. Should she refuse, you can bludgeon her and let the bears handle the rest.

Love is funny.

Domestic battery is a little extreme, don't you think?  I think saying "no" was enough... damn but people are wont to get violent these days.

MrsOLG asked me two months beforehand, then I proposed in a semi-private setting. And then I reproposed in the store when we shopped for and bought the ring.

d23: this crap is usually a hoax...

As they say in the story, what would the point of it being fake be? Not only that, everyone is awkward, nobody was expecting that reaction, and nobody acts like they knew what to do with a "No"... They wold have have in-depth interviews with her and made her a celebrity if it was fake. Instead, she just runs off and the guy with the mic stumbles through a 'We'll check back later'.

I really, REALLY see no reason or point to this being fake. It's not going to bring more people to the game, if it was fake, it was horribly executed, and she sure didn't seem like a 3rd rate actress as much as a woman who had no idea what was going on.

Let's assume this isn't fake for a minute... If the woman actually cares at all about the guy she could just say yes and then later in the car on the way home say "oh yeah... uhhh... that whole proposal thing I actually don't want to marry you, I didn't want to make some weird scene at the ballpark but I got like 6 other dudes I'm seeing right now."

I propose a lot of things at pubic events... It's the best time to get a 'Yes' out of my wife, even if it's not exactly for what I'm asking for...

you can do it in public, but do it in a quiet way. Like somewhere beautiful or at a nice restaurant you two like.

Maybe he was asking "Will you marr me?" and everyone thought he said "Will you marry me?" and she heard what was really said and ran out in shock that he would ask her to marr him and he was dejected because he was wexpecting a big insurance payout from having been publicly marred.

Men like to get engaged and commit suicide much the same way by making turning it into a big gesture

I planned on doing this at a Rockies game a few years ago with a friend of mine...as a joke of course.  The script was she was supposed to slap me after I proposed, but she chickened out.

Do couples not talk about their futures? No wonder divorce is so high. My boyfriend and I have been together for 2.5 years and discussed where we see ourselves and what we expect out of life. He wants a ring, I want to live together first, then I'll pop the question. We both want kids. He wants to live in the suburbs, and I like the city, but we compromised on moving somewhere in the suburbs that is a short commute for me and where we can still enjoy city life. This guy just took a chance and made an ass of himself. Perhaps his girlfriend (like myself) wanted to progress the relationship more before she thought about marriage.

Yeah but that could have its own set of consequences.  What if he immediately called his mom, best friend, etc to tell them the good news only to find out later that she was trying to be nice?  All in all, it sucks for the dude, but she did the right thing.

2013-08-06 01:36:20 PM
I asked my wife's father for his blessing first (she knew I was going to do that). Then I asked her in a private setting with just her and me.

The guy looks like a player to me. Probably a male gold digger who's only known the girl a few weeks and has tried to "sweep her off her feet". Lucky escape for her I'd say. He'll brush himself off and start on his next victim.

Marriage is a big freaking deal, it should only be embarked upon after a serious discussion about the pros and cons, it is more serious than buying a house, starting a business, moving country, etc, it is not something that should be based on one surprise proposal.

2013-08-06 01:37:44 PM
Since this is a story in the Daily Fail, I can only assume that there is no such things as marriage or baseball.
