Think of it as a fee for buying into the stupidity of coloring everything meant for girls pink.

Happened to a friend of mine, called a girl on the one ultrasound they could see the parts, subsequent ultrasounds were inconclusive.  Boom baby boy pops out, and a quick nursery repaint is called for and the return of many many dresses.

2013-08-06 10:41:59 AM
well, that's the way it goes.  20 weeks is usually the cut-off for sex determination (as in minimum), but, often times the body habitus of the baby (not much fat) precludes definite depiction.  this happens more than you think...here, if we're not absolutely sure at 20 weeks we bring them back at 24 or 28.

That's what they get for having the gall to try to decide the child's gender before the child has the chance to do it themselves

2013-08-06 10:43:04 AM
Yeah, they told us the scans were about 80-90% accurate when we went in, guess someone didn't get the warning or just ignored it.

2013-08-06 10:43:26 AM
Pink used to be for boys, and blue for girls.

Then, the colors switched.

They say 90% it's a girl, but the nursery stays yellow, much to my mom's disappointment (she HATES yellow rooms, for some reason. Chewed out a realtor once for saying a room looked nice in yellow.)

2013-08-06 10:45:21 AM
And people say that boys "just like blue" and girls "just like pink." Utter bullshiat; such things are determined by the parents and the culture.

Somebody needs to save this article and send it to the kid and his classmates on his 16th birthday.  Hilarity will ensue.

First off, new born babies don't really wear much anyway.  Secondly that sweater looks like it is sized for a much older child, why are you buying that shiat before the kid is even spat out?

My wife and I are both youngest children, so we're getting a crapton  of loaned baby stuff from older siblings with children and baby clothes from our parents. It's awesome.

It's not like that's the only ultrasound you ever see (and if they are dumping that kind of money on pink crap, they can go in for the optional ones too). They must have done 6-8 for our first baby. Always have the ultrasound tech double check the gender at each visit. That way there are no surprises.

"Cut-off" to determine the sex would solve their problem.

Reminds me of MPs Meaning of Life.
Congratulations, its a healthy baby.
Is it a boy or a girl?
Its a bit early to be pushing roles on it wouldn't you say?

/something along those lines

You still wear baby clothes?

my second child was a girl.  everything was prepared for a girl's arrival.  ultrasound confirmed girl.  nursery all done up girly.  all clothes were girl stuff.

my second SON was then born.

it took one day for grandparents to get everything straightened out for a boy including a quick nursery reset.

no biggie.  not deserving of news.

I'm really not sure what grammar mistake you're trying to point out here. Maybe that I didn't specify that we're having a baby later this year, but since no other reasonable interpretation exists...

I found out for my first one.

For the next two, I preferred the surprise. It really was MUCH more fun and meaningful to find out at the actual birth.

/and we got a log of gender-neutral gifts which I preferred.

Well, a lot of little girls are born with penises.  (Penii?)  About 50%, according to Dr. Phil Hartmann.  (And his nurse, Jon Lovitz.)

2013-08-06 10:55:33 AM
Just put the kid in the pink clothes anyway.  Also, go ahead and name him Lily-Mae as you had planned.  And don't tell anyone about your little family secret until it becomes obvious, around age 12.

/what, you want them to return gifts? That would be rude.

2013-08-06 10:56:07 AM
First words out of EVERY ultrasound technician's mouth when you ask for a gender ID:

"Well, we can give you our best guess, but this isn't going to be 100% accurate."

No one to blame but themselves if they didn't buy unisex for their 0-6month stuff.  There's a shiat-ton of gender neutral clothing, etc., available.

/2 kids.
//1 of each.
///Didn't ask gender for #1, Got lucky and they were right about #2

She should be happy that the kid has any genitalia. Some babies are born with terrible genital defects.
