Geographically speaking, this is closer to avenging 9-11 than Iraq was so I have to applaud the President for blowing up the more-correct-but-still-not-exactly-right brown people.

2013-08-06 07:21:33 AM
Sounds like it's game on...lame headline btw

Yes!  More peace prizes for everyone!!  (do they give ribbons to the victims for participation?)

2013-08-06 07:28:21 AM
Just how brown were they? Are we talking Caramel Corn or Log Cabin? This is a very important detail that the journalists seem to have overlooked.

Drone strikes kill militants men between the ages of 18 and 45 in Yemen

What is this supposed to be distracting from and how is it distracting from it??

2013-08-06 07:38:49 AM
Yes they are brown, but how POOR are they?

/Americans urged to leave. Bwah-hahahahaha! But we're just there to help the shiat out of them, right?

2013-08-06 07:40:56 AM
Actually a drone is an unmanned vehicle that's used for target practice.
The vehicles that shoot missiles and set the Freedom loose across the terraists are unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs).
Get your imperial nomenclature correct, citizens.

"Indeed, newspaper revelations last week about the "kill list" showed the Obama administration defines a militant as any military-age male in the strike zone when its drone attacks."

Literally, "How do you know they were militants? They're dead."

How do you "attack another country" with the full cooperation of its government?

When the Dick, Cheney approves then you're in the wrong.  Universal fact.  More true so than with Darth Vader.

I'm sure the civilians, the women and children, who have been killed by the thousands in these attacks over the years are comforted very greatly by that distinction.

Haven't we been fighting a destabilizing drone war in Yemen since before Obama was even president, what with the whole USS Cole deal? I remember liberal blogs complaining about him stepping things up there, to a resounding "meh" by everyone else. (I think Obama was eating Dijon mustard that week or engaged in a scandal of equal proportion.)

If you're an American civilian in Yemen, you're either stupid, a diplomat, or a military contractor. This essentially just seems like the US Gov telling its civilian soldiers to brace for an obvious backlash.

If you think "ongoing undeclared war that has been ill reported" causing the government to respond in standard fashion to said war flaring up slightly is the same thing as "wagging the dog," you need to go back to school or give up on following international politics, because it's obviously over your head, subby.

I'm sure that wasn't my point. But then all you wanted to do was sick it to the lib so, my point doesn't matter to you anyway.

Yemen: It's Cambodia without the cold-war charm.

I know, Yemen isn't actualy secret like Cambodia was, but it's still largely forgotten despite us having been there, with the local government, for quite a long time now.

Americans leaving the Middle East and never going back would be a good idea. As I understand it, that's Al Qaeda's main gripe with us.

They've been warning about a terrorist attack all week.
Guess it finally happened.

Not really. Al-Qaeda is waging a "Cosmic War" of good and evil. It's not really, specifically, about us being there - they just see that as symptomatic of the war they're fighting.

So you'll capitulate to the terrorists. You'd write off the deaths of thousands of American soldiers for nothing.

You make me SICK.

Interesting I chose this point in time to be reading The Panther by Nelson Demille.  Sure makes me never, ever want to go to Yemen.  He definitely colors his writing with his own perspective but supposedly also does pretty meticulous research.  Makes that country sound like the seventh level of hell.  Doesn't seem that he's far off.

And how can it be "another" country when we've been doing it for 11 years?

In November 2002, the United States took an unprecedented step in the war on terrorism and crossed a tactical threshold by allowing the CIA to use an armed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) called the RQ-A1 Predator to kill al-Qaeda's chief operative in Yemen

Capitulation to terrorists is my 67-year-old mom getting groped at an airport and my government listening to and logging all of my communications and financial exchanges looking for "patterns."

I am against the constant surveillance as anyone...  but man, one day we are going to wake up and New York or Washington is going to be a crater.  I know WHY they are watching and listening.  9-11 changed everything.

You know how six or so years ago, some people were saying that all these hands-off continuous drone strikes were going to cause massive anger in the population, and would create more problems then they prevented?
