filter: Seriously, though, it was obnoxious eating dinner, seated next to a table of very drunk and rowdy weekend warrior 'bikers.'

And to the bozo mentioning day care--- how many evening/night day cares are there, anywhere?

You should have thought of that before you had kids. However, there are plenty of out of work teens that will babysit evenings.

No - no matter how much they state how well their children are behaving, they are children. As a former child myself, you learn quite quickly how to get away with things even when not under the watchful eye of the parent. This is what kids do. They learn what their parents will pass off as "endearing" behavior, or "just kids being kids" and proceed to ride that train until its out of track.

At that point, everyone around you is already pissed off because food is flung, dropped on the floor, gurglyburbly noises, screaming, crying, complaining in high pitched child voices, running around, ect.

Good - plenty of other places to take your miserable little drooling, noisy, smelly, bratty sprog for a meal.  You'll get over it.

Children have ruined British pubs more than anything else.  Adults need places to play as much as children - the two don't need to mix.  I know what a farking child looks like, and I'm not impressed by the ability of others to procreate, nor do I need to see (and especially hear) the end product.

Children should be herded and not seen.

robodog: You do know that pub comes from public house, aka the central gathering place for the community, right? Just because a bunch of alcoholics want to turn it into a windowless expanded version of their moms basement doesn't mean that's what it's meant to be or should be.

Says you. Feel free to frequent the 90+% of places that don't restrict children. Let the free market sort this one out.

most kids at restaraunts wind up ordering chicken nuggets and fries anyway --- why take them out and overpay for that when you could have used the chicken nugget money to pay a sitter while you and your partner could go out and try the newest restaurant. I was at a restaurant the other day having morning margaritas and breakfast tacos and this couple with a toddler was  seated across the restaurant from us. Cute kid but very fidgety. Right as heir food was delivered, kid started getting really fussy. Mom, not having a single bite of food did the right thing and took the kid outside so as not to disturb other patrons. Dad kept eating. Almost thirty minutes go by, mom comes in and hands kid off to dad, who then does the same thing for about twenty minutes while she ate her plate of cold food. The exchange happend again and mom proceeded to pack all the baby gear up and take the kid outside again while dad could then finish his plate of cold food. What a shiatty way to dine out.Luckily the four margaritas took the edge off hearing a kid whine like that.

gfid: abhorrent1: Whar Hero tag? Whar!

I was going to ask the same thing.

Where I used to work sometimes we'd go to a nameless brew-pub/restaurant and they have a section just for the restaurant area, but parents would often insist on letting their pint sized brats run around the bar - where everyone drinks.and these kids sometimes would only come up to my knees while I'm trying to navigate my way to the bathroom and back.   I really wish I had just knocked one of them over just to see the parents reaction when I asked them "WTF did you think could happen if you let your brat run around a crowded bar where people drink?"

Ban the Red Hat Society ladies as well.

I just returned from a three week vacation in the US, and we ate at all hours with the 4 and 6 year old-- they don't exactly have bedtime when they are vacationing and jet lagged.  It isn't particularly easy finding a sitter when you vacationing in a foreign country.  But we are all Eurotrash assholes who don't tip, either, so I guess they won't miss us ;)

Not always. When I visit my parents we often have breakfast at a brasserie-style place. Familes with young kids, including babies, are often there and I've never seen or heard any inappropriate behavior. One time I remember noticing that our table was the only one without children, and if the kids didn't happen to be in your sight line, you'd never have known they were there. They were just eating quietly or coloring - never running around. Kids can be taught to behave with respect, but too many parents are hesitant to do so.

It's the smoking ban, leading to a lot of smokers not going to pubs and instead having smokey-drinkeys, leading to almost every country pub now pushing food at customers, and as a result, they need families.

Every boozer around here (that isn't right in the town centre) has either closed or is a food pub.

AverageAmericanGuy: Daycare is expensive for single mom's, subby.

Subby of the single mom? That's quite cool! How does one become the submitter of an entire group? (although as a singular possessive I suppose you could be saying that he is the submitter of only one, perhaps a disabled mom who cannot submit for herself)

As to the substance of your post: yes, which is why such parents can go to the myriad other restaurants that continue to serve brats at all hours.
