I wrote this headline with him in mind.  Hopefully we can find a right fielder who can catch though.

It's never going to stop until you take away that financial incentive.

Bastardo. Is that Irish? Seems like it should be.

Cruz and Peralta are the ones we should be talking about.  These are two legitimate players playing important roles for contenders.  I'm surprised at how little coverage the two of them have gotten under the whole A-Rod mess as A-Rod's basically going to be a replacement-level player for the Yankees.

Oh jeez, not this shiat again.

Try this on: foreign born Hispanic players are more willing to cheat because they have terrible options if they don't play pro sports.

It happened in Florida which is a base for latin-american players. If the bust would happen somewhere else in the nation it might have had a different makeup of guilty parties.

Or maybe the white players are smarter about where they get their HGH and steroids.

That's why I'm thinking these guys are glad they got suspended the same time as ARod. The other guys will be forgotten by the end of the week while we endlessly discuss ARod.

Braun should have waited until now to accept his suspension.

There's not much controversy around them. They cheated, they got caught, they admitted it and took the best deal they could get.

Controversy aside -- the actual game will be affected more by Cruz and Peralta being away than from A-Rod.

Ah. I wondered. A Florida bust does explain some of the weight towards Hispanic names. Plus I'm sure some players have better suppliers and better lawyers than some other players.

You know, would it kill A-Rod to just accept his punishment like everyone else?  I get that it's a huge suspension and of course you want to appeal, but when everyone else caught red handed just mans up and admits it, you're not going to win any friends trying to reduce your sentence.

Baseball is doing the same thing cycling did - the more you punish, the more you're in the news for guys "cheating" and for the punishments, and the more everyone thinks it's a problem and everyone's cheating all the time, creating a perpetual black cloud.

Meanwhile, the other sports don't give a f*ck about testing, only rarely suspend people, and usually do it when there's much bigger things to talk about. They're probably using a lot more, but most conversations about the other sports don't turn to PEDs like they do in baseball.

A lot of athletes "live" in Florida because there is no state income tax there.

Texas may be toast (ha, Texas toast) but I wouldn't start getting excited for the Yankees' playoff chances - they still have a lot of ground to make up.

MLB should really release the evidence but I suspect they won't. From what I've read, Peralta was on a contact list for the clinic but they had no records that he ever ordered or received anything. He's a free agent at the end of the season, so postponing the suspension would be career suicide.

The Tigers are going to miss his bat a lot, especially with both Jackson and Fielder absolutely sucking the past month. The upside is they now have a SS with amazing range.

I keep reading the Fark experts that the Yankees are fielding third-stringers.

I'd take a Cruz-less Rangers over the Yankees any day.

I mean, this is what, 6 A-Rod/Yankees/PED greenlights today? All for a player that hasn't played all season and hasn't been relevant in several years? STILL baseball's biggest story, and it really doesn't matter at all.

I'll agree that it's a lot, but A-Rod was most certainly "relevant" when he was sucking in the playoffs last fall.

2013-08-05 03:23:11 PM
What kind of sucks about this on a very basic level is that the Brewers lose Braun, and some teams in pennant races lose players, but Rodriguez, who is accused of so much more, still gets to play.

What also sucks about this is that is is evidently drawing the old-timey white supremacists out from under their damp logs. They're like Fark's own version of an elderly relative, sharting themselves while they complain about pro sports being taken over by non-whites.

That would be great and would take some juevos...  so don't count on it.  They'll probably just say "No, appeal denied.  Enjoy your 211 vacation days."

Those other players could have appealed and played a bunch more games - they chose not to, and probably had good reasons.

If A-Rod indeed appeals, I have a feeling the amount of A-Rod related submissions won't decrease for some time.

That only matters if you play for a FL based team.  You pay taxes based on where you play the games.  So if you are on a FL (or TX) team, half your games will not have income tax.  The other half are based on where you play your road games.

Generally visiting players don't have to pay local taxes, though a couple years ago St. Louis tried to make them.  It did not go over well.

Well, aside from the $30+ million he'd lose, he'll turn 40 in 2015.  If he sits out the rest of this season and next, he'll never be the same.  He's got five $6 million bonuses based on homer totals, one of which he'd be guaranteed to hit without a suspension, and he'd probably get both.  Besides, what friends are A-Rod going to win?  At this point, you either love him, hate him, or are indifferent.  I don't any of that's going to change if he gets his suspension down to 100 games.
