The GOP seems to be sharing political strategy with Kim Jong-un.

Let's call this crap what it is, sedition and treason, and prosecute their lame asses.

I agree.  They aren't interested in compromise, they are only interested in the country bending over and accepting the pain from their minority position.  All they have is bluster and bravado - they hope that if they keep screaming their bad ideas loudly enough eventually people will start to think that they're good ideas.

Thankfully it seems that the country overall is getting wise to their shenanigans, and I hope it royally bites them in the ass come midterms.

Yeah, the Democrats can talk about the plot, the elegant beauty of Audrey Hepburn, and the portait of New York in the early '60s, and the Republicans can giggle at Mickey Rooney in yellowface.

FTFA: But the tentativeness with which leaders continue to hint that a shutdown may not be the best idea - combined with the continued refusal to level with the base about the very things that are pushing us towards the abyss - doesn't bode well.

The ultra-right portion of their base may like it, but they're starting to lose the moderates within the party.  Hopefully there will be enough media outrage over this kind of stuff building up to midterms that independents, moderates, and liberals all get out to vote and knock these basticthes out of office.

Who gives a flying f*ck what Eric Cantor says? We need to simply start ignoring these corrupt dipsh*ts.

The GOP wants to do nothing not because it has no ideas, but because those ideas are highly unpopular but mostly their rich backers like the country this way. This includes the people who own the media.

The status quo is to keep the country away from redistribution of wealth and to maintain wealth inequality. The current control of national and local government achieves that aim. And there are enough frightened, uninformed voters to maintain the status quo for a long time.

1) Repeal Obamacare
2) Replace it with the same exact bill but the method to pay for it (the individual mandate)
3) Stop calling it "Obamacare" so Obama can't take credit for it anymore

Fine, let the House shut down the government. This is really dumb on their part. Republicans have nothing to gain and Obama is not demanding anything at all. I don't think McConnell will be happy about this since it's going to affect his 2014 Senate election. If anything, McConnell should do something.

However, there is truth that a group of House Democrats also want to defund Obamacare.

If healthcare reform is so horrible and a budget buster as claimed by the Republicans, then the implementation should be sufficient to allow the Republicans to recapture the White House in 2016 and then they can be free to defund it beginning in 2017.  Unless, of course, it isn't and they won't.

But recall that every time the bluff has been called in the last 2 years, the GOP caved, in whole or in part (well, also the sequester, which has been great at stagnating growth - no one "won" that compromise).

They may be blinkered, but the GOP knows that an actual shutdown would mean 2-branch control by the Blues.

Cantor and Boehner are the New Nihilists. Except they are stuck in a premature stage.  Instead of rejecting a valuable life, then focusing on materialism followed by disillusionment and finally suicide- they have settled into the materialism stage as if it were an actual virtue and not just a step towards scrubbing their mental illness from our gene pool.
Come on Eric, think a little harder, you can do it buddy.

As an honorary Jew, let me just say that Cantor is the ONLY Jew on the Republican side of Congress, and that they are using him to reenforce a latent antiSemitism in their Base. Limbaugh's(et al)constant harping about Libruls is nothing more than modern antiSemitism cross pollinated with good old Southern (and Northern) Racism...who else? Oh yeah, Messkins and Womins...ummm young people, and of course most educated people who haven't sold their souls in the name of KochBros Capitalismo

But the Tea Party fruit loops in the House don't care.  That means in order to get the votes, some Republicans would have to work with Pelosi & co.  I don't see it happening.  I think we're heading for a shut down whether Boehner and Cantor want it or not.
