(Major League Baseball)   How bad is the Angel's bullpen? Let's just say that the starter pitched over 7 innings and it took 6 relievers to finish less than 2 innings... and they still lost   (mlb.mlb.com) divider line 34

I still feel like a smarty pants for drafting cj Wilson this year.

Also subby you forgot the farkiest part, they allowed a jays comeback.

This was a problem last season too. They'll fix it this offseason with more high priced aging bats.

It's a good thing they sent Santana to KC for a guy that never went higher then AA. Dumping him worked out well

I'm glad Ferrell came in and smacked that idea the fark outta John Henry's pointy head.  Or at least he's tried to, not 100% sure it took yet.  Either way, the last few years of Tito's time and definitely Bobby V's year were just horrible for not doing a damned thing about the bullpen.

So welcome to being Red Sox West, Anaheim.

I knew it was KC-MIL-LAA then the Dodgers of Zach. That being said its funny that a team needing pitching goes out and buys a washed up bat. After trading Santana to dump payroll

Which makes me question the downs Rasmus trade even more. I guess a tenth less salary wise is good, but they need quality bodies in that pen.

I was scratching my head on the Santana trade. Didn't seem good at the time. Thou now it and the Guthrie/Sanchez trade with the Rockies are looking good

Houston would have traded anyone they wanted from their pitching staff.

I thought it made some sense at the time; salary dump and Santana pitched poorly for an entire season. I only said some sense though. Everyone can have a bad year.

Just you wait smug Kansas Cityans.  I once thought as you did about Gas Cantana.  Its funny.  Sometimes the broadcast announcers would call him Ervin "Magic" Santana.  And thats what he was occasionally.  He'll throw a game where he gets 10 or more strikeouts and you think he's Pedro Martinez in his prime.  But then...

But then he gives up 4-5 HR's a game in a crucial spot.  Then you start talking to yourselves. "Well, he doesn't do well in home day games.  He's leading the league in away night games on odd numbered days."  Then it happens again somewhere else.

"C'mon Santana!  You're better than this!  I believed in you!"

Yes, just you wait.

I think he's more aluding to the fact better the Angels be saddled with that contract than the Rangers.  As a Cardinal fan I sure as hell know I'm just as grateful for the Angels swooping in and taking Pujols.

Popcorn Johnny: Thanks for Tori Hunter.

*sigh*

Well, Arte, you've owned the team for ten years now. In that time, you've embarrassed yourself and the team and us fans with all that Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim crap, all because you're so delusional, you think that the small bump in TV and ad revenue was going to compensate for looking desperate and pathetic. The Cowboy learned the hard way, the Angels could win five straight World Series and people *still* won't abandon the Dodgers for the Angels.

Also, Arte, your meddling with personnel decisions has blown up on you time and again, all because of a "win NOW" philosophy that was a disaster in 2008 and is just as bad now. Now the team is stuck with two aging, past-it, salary drains, you and your staff have decimated the minor league pitching supply by trading away draft picks, and on top of all that, you stiff Mike Trout, who should have gotten a raise after last season, but oh no, it's *Trout* who you play salary hardball with while giving Hamilton and Poo-holes the key to the bank. Guarantee Trout leaves about 5 seconds after he becomes eligible for free agency.

/Is this season over with yet?

He was referring to the headline tag, and the headline has nothing to do with the albatross contracts.

And even if he were referencing them, it's still wise not to get cocky. As a Rangers fan, I sure as hell know that nothing is for certain until the last out is recorded.

This sums up the majority of my feelings.   There's something horribly amiss. The energy of this team is dead. Look at the players, look at the bullpen, look at the lack of focus. Changes will happen (likely in the off-season).

Mike Butcher will be let go, I don't really see any way around that. The bullpen has the capability to be productive and get outs, they just have no confidence in doing so.

Scioscia is going to stick around. He has a lot of clout with the club and with MLB in general. If it were me I'd give him 2 more years to turn it around before doing something, but who knows if he'll last that long if the team tanks next year too. It isn't his fault that the GM and owner took 2 huge gambles in the past 2 years and both failed. It isn't his fault that players get injured. Where he is responsible is club attitude and synergy, and he hasn't figured out how to make it work with this group yet.

An Angel fan friend of mine told me, "Don't write off Hamilton yet!"  It's hard to think that way when his on-base is .278, which is good for rank 144th in the majors and 15th on his OWN TEAM. That signing was clearly a mistake.

A friend who's an Angels fan told me that my sigh of relief after Hamilton signed with LA was "sour grapes".

No, calling CJ Wilson a pathetic douche bag was sour grapes.  Hamilton is more like "payback."

CJ is a douche, but at least he's partially lived up to expectations.  He leads the team in wins, ERA, and strikeouts this year.  HE was the best signing the Angels have made in almost a decade (Vlad).

Not only was signing Hamilton a mistake, he wasn't needed either. Give Torii Hunter the money he wanted and there you go, right field taken care of for the next 2-3 years. But nah, pay Hamilton $5/mil a year more!

The Angels do have a decent core of young/young-ish players: Weaver and Wilson as starters, Trumbo at 1B, Kendrick at 2B, Aybar at SS, Shuck in LF, Trout in CF, Conger at C. 3B has been a problem since Glaus left after the 2004 season, maybe Chris Nelson is the answer?

At least they got rid of Jeff Mathis......

CJ is a good 3 or 4 guy in the rotation. We would have kept him if he would have taken 3rd or 4th starter money, but he wanted ace money, and an ace he is not

I chuckled at the headline, but then remembered I have King Felix on my fantasy team.
