Maybe it's because I have a few hours left on shift, but...I don't get it.

If I'm paying cash, I pay cash for each drink when I get the drink.

If I'm paying credit, they either keep my card and if I forget to pay and leave, (which is something I've done many times), they'll charge for the drinks, add 20% for tip, and keep the card.

If I'm paying credit and they give the card right back, they'll still do the drinks plus tip deal if I forget to close the tab out.

Is there some bar out there that just lets you rack up the drinks without presenting any kind of payment beforehand?  I don't understand... I guess just what I'm used to is if you "have a tab" you have already given the bartender a credit card.  You may give permission for friends to just "put it on your tab".  But if you just get up and leave, you'll still be charged.

it does not compute

Try reading the article, moron. The place is a restaurant, not a bar.

Yes, some places will run a tab without asking for a card, if you don't, frequently get shiatfaced and walk out on your bill.

"Brewer's Cabinet, a bar in Reno, Nevada, uploaded a photo of a man to its Facebook page, urging the public to call the police if they saw him because he left without paying his $100 tab Tuesday night. "Bailing is pretty uncool... pathetic, really. Get a life, man," the post reads."

If they're a moran what does that make you?  Some kind of supertard?

There are places on the planet where human beings still trust each other.  They're usually small towns full of backwards hicks but they're out there.  One time I even saw a gas station that let you pump gas before paying for it.  Crazy shiat.

What the hell? ok, it's been some times since I have been in the states, but prepayment is the norm?

As for the guy, he never intended to pay if his family has to send him money.

Only for Gas Stations and some Bars. Restaurants will almost always let you run a tab (which is what happened here).

It's happened over about the past ten years. You either stick your credit card in before pumping, or you go in and pre-pay with cash before pumping. It's probably been five years since I've seen a place that let you pump before paying.

That's not the "only" thing worse than waking up with a bad hangover. It's pretty bad, but I've woken up to worse. No, I won't elaborate.

At this point is it really necessary to specify 'Facebook' shamed?  Does anyone think they hired the town crier to wear a placard and ring a bell whilst walking the town square and market street?

Meh.

Here's a tip, dumbass.  If you frequently get too drunk to realize that you're drinking more than you can pay for maybe you should just stop at a liquor store and drink at home.  You'll get arrested less often that way.

/or stop being a dishonest farktard and quit trying to skip out on bills

You must go to some sh*tty, unfriendly, corporate owned bars.

both of my old regular spots would run a tab for an evening for pretty much anyone... less hassle for both the staff and patrons
regulars got long term tabs...
owed about $800 combined at one point...
paid it off with cash, doing repairs and playing shows...
they always got their money because one place was too awesome to get banned from and the other place would simply smash your skull open and feast on the goo inside...
the awesome place paid for half my drinks on a given night anyway because they lurved me...
the other place bought me plenty of drinks too but they weren't as lucrative so couldn't afford to give away too much... ultra cheap beers though...
this subtext is far longer than originally anticipated...
deal with it...

In smaller cities built around a factory, it's still not that uncommon to still let people run up a tab during the month, since you know they have a steady job (union), and you know when payday is.

Bad tipping is not theft. Skipping on paying entirely is.

I guess the bar took his photo and let him go, assuming 'he'd be right back with the money"? Yeah. Just gotta run to an ATM/friend's House/my home which is not a trailer near the dump.

Zelaznog told the Reno Gazette-Journal on Wednesday that the incident was a "useful disaster."

George W. Bush "Invading Iraq was a useful disasterer."
Bill Clinton: "Monica Lewinsk, in mah opinion, was a useful disaster."
George H. W. Bush "Sayin' "Read my lips - no new taxes" and then raisin' taxes was a useful disaster."
Ronald Reagan: "Reaganomics was a useful disaster"

Kind of makes sense now. Still "Useful Disasters" would be a great name for a rock band

That's nice.  And once he gets clear of the "defrauding an innkeep" charge he's going to have legal grounds to rip the innkeep a new one for the next thirty years.

Always ALWAYS check in with your host before you leave.

This has probably been asked before, but I'm too lazy to look it up. But, they don't make restaurant customers pay ahead of time, but they do take their picture?

Seriously, where'd they get the picture?

FTFA "He said something similar happened to him at another bar, and he left a "nice watch" as "collateral.""

I see absolutely no reason to doubt the Bar/Restaraunt's version of events. I'd wonder why the hell anyone walks into a place and starts spending money they don't have, but this is Vegas.

From his Facebook page, I think.  I think I remember from a previous article that someone in the resteraunt knew his name and they were able to track him down on FB.

Alcoholism. Think about it... even at $10 a drink the guy would have slammed 10 drinks in an evening to rack up $100 by himself. I mean I used to be able to do that easily but I was a hard ass drunk. Maybe he ate too but there is no mention of food in TFA.
