If only there were some type of legal regulation........

2013-08-04 08:19:10 PM
The locals just need to pin copyright infringement on them and then no risk would be too great to stop those horrible criminals.

Couldn't they just go in with ATF and state troopers?

Legalize marijuana, so growers don't have to do it in protected areas by poisoning wildlife. It would also make the crop less valuable and likely not worth killing over.

Problem solved.

They proliferate in the high Sierra, where armed Mexican cartel operatives clear wilderness areas, divert creeks and poison wildlife.

If only there were some federal agency charged with arresting and deporting those who are here illegally.

That's Mexican Marijuana farms in California subby. Instead of trying to sneak tons of pot across the border, the drug cartel just sneaks people, then force them to work on a crop out in the woods. (The payoff is that they'll be left in the US once the grow op is done.) They don't know where they are, they might get shot if they run, and sometimes their family members are held as collateral. They dump fertilizer and pesticides like it's going out of style, then just leave all the trash once the grow is finished. People who intend to use the same spot a few years in a row don't trash the place. I'm sure there's a few exceptions to that rule, but for the most part it really is the cartels that dump tons of chemicals and trash.

This. The halfway-psuedolegal mariijuana legalization isn't ever going to work. Either it's legal or it isn't.

The complaint here is that the Regional Water Boards, entities that have no peace officers or armed staff, aren't taking Clean Water Act/ Porter-Cologne Water Quality Control Act enforcement actions against illegal marijuana grow operations (which are frequently operated by heavily-armed cartels).

Considering that these operations are illegal and shouldn't be there in the first place, it seems rather silly to blame the freaking Water Boards for this stuff.

2013-08-04 08:30:10 PM
I'm 100% a pot head stoner, who believes that cannabis should be legal. That being said, the government needs to shut these operations down. I worked in a medical grow, we were very diligent about not polluting, all our plants where either completely inside or in hoop huts with plastic buried under the soil to prevent run off.

It really annoys me that the feds have been shutting down and raiding state legal operations that are being ran by legal individuals and not illegal cartels with assault riffles. To play paranoid stoner for a moment, it would almost seem the the government is being purposely neglectful to prevent the drop in criminal activity that happens in a legal regulated market.

Unlikely.  Everyone knows that they're carrying bundles of MJ all the way from Mexico.  That's how they got calves the size of cantaloupes.

Was it redlit of is this yours which they edited? Because this one reads just like something from the NYT. Yours at least has the virtue of being trollish/snarky.

OT:

My big deal is what they do to hikers. This used to be a problem only in northern Mexico. It's tragic it has seeped across the border. As much as I love being off trail there is no way I will go hiking in the wilderness with wildlife that shoots.

Possible, but a more likely explanation is that the narcs are being graded on the amount of pot seized, so they're raiding places with a higher pot-seized/bullets-fired-at-them ratio. It's like the old joke about the drunk who dropped his house keys in the tall grass, but looking for them by the streetlight because the light is better there.

Why not try some refreshing Hemp MediMilk and Cannacookies? You'll be trapped on the couch too scared to move because the room is BREATHING and sweet Jesus the couch is its tongue and it would swallow you if it finds out you're alive and you can see this tiny tunnel of the outside world through the TV and just slowly want to crawl over and out the TV but you're too twisted to remember how to move and too far away for the rays from the TV to energize your soul and give you the power to move and the couch will eat you anyways, why, WHY did you eat so many cookies?

Medical grow labs get busted because a) they don't shoot at cops and b) aren't in the middle of farking nowhere. Easy to drive up and make the bust.

These farkers tearing up national parks and the like need to be hunted like The Running Man. Make it a sport. Maybe call in Dick Cheney.

Take it out of the Black Market, and you get the criminals out of the system. Those backwoods Pot farms are not being regulated at all. It wasn't like that back in the 70's and 80's. Back then, it was all hippies and such. Now, its Mexican Mafia and those MS-13 maniacs from El Salvadore and Nicaragua. They don't play nice. It isn't fish hooks hanging in the trees anymore, its home made claymore mines and guys with automatic weapons.

Unregulated markets always turn into massive criminal enterprises.

I wasn't aware that you could continue to engage in illegal activity if you can make it too dangerous for law enforcement to stop you. That's...interesting...precedent.

2013-08-04 09:13:08 PM
That's because growers aren't a big enough concern to seriously bribe the government yet. Once one of them starts clearing a few billion a year, then they can start spilling unrefined marijuana oil all over the landscape without fear of repercussions.

Occam's Razor suggests that federal authorities prefer to justify their existence and their budgets by raiding the easier and less dangerous targets.

I thought that small government wingnuts who love abortion bans and drug prohibition, but don't give a damn about the environment, would love this.

But that would assume that said wingnuts were consistent.

Maybe instead of attacking state legal pot grows/stores the DEA could use that money to fight mexicans in the woods.  They still would use all that money they dont want cut and they would be targeting criminals, illegals, and save the environment.

Then again bullying unarmed people with automatic weapons is far more fun.

I've heard stories about dizzying, couch-locked bad trips from smoking way too much. It's uncomfortable if you didn't plan on it, and eating your THC increases the risk of over-indulgence. I've never had the opportunity or invitation to smoke or eat too much weed, but I do know normal amounts give you weird-in-retrospect ideas. The experience I typed was not a serious "this is what stoners actually believe."

It's what's preventing CA from just handing this to the DEA, which is more than equipped to handle the problem.  The DEA doesn't have the resources to find these things in the wilderness on their own and all the probable cause is owned by the state, which isn't cooperating apparently.

If they went after real drug dealers, it would be difficult. They might even do something good for once, and then the public would have to slightly reevaluate our opinion that all narcs are worthless piles of cat shiat covered in asparagus piss. They might be upgraded to dog doo that's been rained on.
