I saw that movie. It was fun.

Better than the LotRs for sure.

2013-08-04 05:24:50 PM
Yeah, because no blockbusters are ever released in the summer.

Forgotten? I've seen that movie many times.

2013-08-04 06:10:37 PM
I remember it, but I'm not sure if I ever saw more than passing clips of it.  And seeing as it's got Michael J. Fox in it, chances are the 80s/90s kids around here remember it.

2013-08-04 06:25:48 PM
I really enjoyed it when it came out.

Holy crap that clip was fairly terrifying.

Roook: I really enjoyed it when it came out.

As did I. First movie I ever saw Jake Busey in too.

2013-08-04 07:54:25 PM
It was pretty good. I think it didn't do well because they didn't know how to market it. They sold it as a comedy but it was pretty dark.

2013-08-04 08:11:03 PM
I coudn't get through the first 20 minutes.

2013-08-04 08:15:51 PM
I really enjoyed it. Not as good as Meet the Feebles but still good stuff.

2013-08-04 08:29:03 PM
Me and Mike always mix it up with Back to the Future.

/good movie though

It was an entertaining movie. The ghosts were pretty cool

That is such a great, great movie.

Not really "forgotten" if I have the DVD in my collection.

"The Best Movie You Never Saw" should be changed to "I'm Sorry, I Don't Get Out Much and Missed This Movie When It Came Out"

/saw it
//when it came out

Irving Maimway: Meet the Feebles

I saw that whacked outta my mind at midnight showing and laughed my balls off.
However that movie does not hold up well when viewed sober.

____

I'll have to check out The Frighteners again. I remember only enjoying the R. Lee Ermey & Chi McBride parts.
_____________

My Peter Jackson choice would be :

"Dead Alive": the most blood you will probably see in any movie. I can't believe the amount of splatter they had in that film. Even for fake blood, Peter Jackson must've bought the stuff by the truckfull. How the actors could stand being just drenched in fluid for a good part of the movie, I don't know.

Bob Falfa: Yeah, because no blockbusters are ever released in the summer.

That would have put it up against Independence Day though, which would be tough.

2013-08-04 08:45:50 PM
If you grew up in the NYC/North Jersey area you've watch the Frightners several times.

2013-08-04 08:45:53 PM
Excellent movie

2013-08-04 08:46:03 PM
Not only did I see it, but I also saw it in the theater!

2013-08-04 08:47:33 PM
I saw this in the Theaters. It was fun.

Michael J fox was huge.

But I'll tell you this - it was a while ago, and I don't remember the title. I went to look up the video on netflix and ... DAMNIT! Its cover art has all the selling power of a shoe. A crappy shoe that's been stuck under the bed for six years and covered in dust, its companion lost.

Seriously, Put MJF on the cover on Netflix and I'd have watched it (again) before.

2013-08-04 08:49:24 PM
I hope some suit lost their job for thinking this was a summer movie.

2013-08-04 08:49:26 PM
Frighteners was good, had lots of great characters, but it just came off as a Ghostbusters clone. Plus I could just never accept MJF in that role. Heavenly Creatures is Jackson's best film to date, but Brain Dead will always be his most fun.

2013-08-04 08:53:04 PM
The reason it failed was the title - Americans couldn't spell it or say it.

2013-08-04 08:53:53 PM
Definitely one of the better horror comedies out there.  I'm not sure that the R rating helped it or was even really deserved.

2013-08-04 08:58:14 PM
I have it on DVD. It's a fun adventure that has its light and dark moments.

2013-08-04 09:00:04 PM
Great movie, Jeffrey Combs was awesome. I dragged friends to the theater with me and they enjoyed it too.

/John Astin!

I just watched it for the first time on Netflix a few weeks ago and enjoyed it. It had a real Beetlejuice flavour to it.

I've seen The Frighteners at least a dozen times, because it was all over cable about 10 years ago when I had a bunch of weed and nothing to do with my time.

vrax: Definitely one of the better horror comedies out there.  I'm not sure that the R rating helped it or was even really deserved.

Jackson said afterward that he'd intended it to be a PG-13, but the whole "serial killer" motif doomed it to an R.

OMG watching it now - SO FUNNY.

But It looks like it was shot by any workman 80's Director. Seriously. Like Goonies + Ghostbusters.

fusillade762: Not to threadjack, but did anyone notice the Angie Varona link on the sidebar? I have no idea who she is but holy hell! I'm now officially glad Twitter was created.

Wow. Except her making the duck face and throwing up gang signs makes me want to slap her. But not with my hand.

He's the best thing in the House on Haunted Hill remake and he doesn't even have any lines.

She's a chick that posted AW photos on the internet and then got mad when people took them and started posting them everywhere. I'm gonna do you a favor and not tell you how old that girl is in most of those pics. (Hint: I don't think she had her driver's license.)

Also, The Frighteners is awesome.
