FTA: "What would change everything would be cricket regaining the Olympic status it had more than 100 years ago."

Question: How many months would the Summer Olympics need to last to accommodate Cricket?

Just play limited overs cricket, the most common form of the game. It's only first class and test cricket that runs multiple days, every other form is over in a day.

It's funny: I can watch a cricket game and follow what is going on, and I know the rules of the game.  But when I hear a report of a cricket match on the BBC or another British source, I find myself asking "Is that in English?"

Matches take an average of just under 3 hours, which makes them faster than the average AL East game.

Hey, we're not the only ones who curl, you know.

And how slow is cow pat bingo? Answer me that, Mr. Smarty Pants Subby.

There are ways of speeding that game up, but you don't want to try them.

Twenty20s take about the same amount of time as a baseball game and has about as many pitches (or bowls), so you could always go with that.

Twenty20 actually turns it into a really good game.  Although when I told my father about it who grew up playing cricket in the outskirts of London -- played silly mid on in school -- and now lives in the states, he was aghast at they did to his game.

/yes, my fellow Americans, "silly mid on" is a position in cricket.  It's kind of like how in fast-pitch softball, often the third baseman plays halfway between third and home looking for a bunt only without the glove or mask.

While I was in Seoul for work recently I made what some would consider the mistake of asking a handful of slightly-inebriated Australian sports journalist to explain, once and for all, how cricket works.

What followed was an animated 45-minutes of explanations and arm-waving that were only barely out-enthused by their disgust for Kevin Rudd and his new immigration policy.

Over the last few days I've watched the Ashes and now that I understand the basic rules of the game it actually makes sense and is actually interesting to watch, but I think the cultural weight is just too heavy for a non-Brit (or former Brit in the case of the sub-continent) to easily carry.

Twenty20 might be interesting, though.

You forgot the exciting part where the pitcher continually looks over his shoulder and throws the ball to first base. And the really exciting bit where they show some guy in the dugout spitting out the slime from his chewing tobacco.

What and where can a new to cricket actually watch it on US TV.
