Well lets face it, wearing SS uniforms with Nazi insignias isn't typically a door opener.

It's pretty much a given that if it involves "College Republicans" it involves them doing something completely dickish because "it's their right."

Sounds like Townhall is looking for fresh writers.

It was ok when people had to sign loyalty oaths at Bush events.

I got a sawbuck here that says these morons were all for the "free speech zones" at Bush events.

Whether or not their intent was to be disruptive, from TFA I gather they simply didn't have tickets and were turned away for that reason.

It's also possible that they showed up late, after the doors were closed.

Sure - either way I'm guessing they lied - either about having tickets or about showing up early - being Republicans and all.

2013-08-04 12:00:05 PM
On the off-chance they were legitimately eligible for entry (had tickets or space was available), then it sounds like an abundance of caution (or an excess of anal retentiveness) on the part of the Secret Service, and being over-cautious is kind of what the Secret Service does.

FTFA: Scott said each member of the group had a ticket to enter the event and that they arrived early complying with all rules. "Obama was scheduled to speak at around 4 p.m., so around 3:30 pm we gathered our stuff up," said Scott.

This is where their story falls apart. Showing up only 30 minutes before a POTUS event is not early. You'd need to be a lot earlier just be on time before they lock the doors. And I seriously doubt the POTUS was speaking at 4. Its like an airline departure time.

Showing up a half-hour before the start time for a presidential speech? There were probably people with tickets who were on line three hours early and seated at least an hour prior to start time (based on the few presidential events I covered in my reporter days).

Maybe next time they should spend less time playing Baby Elephant Walk and dressing each other in crotchless pantaloons before heading over.

FTFA: "No one who presented a ticket was turned away prior to all doors being locked in accordance with Secret Service procedures,"

I went to an Obama rally at my university last Fall. He was scheduled to speak at like 11 and my group got there at like 6 or 6:30.

If the President is scheduled to speak at 4, what are the chances the area is locked down and the venue is closed before 3:30?

I mean, there's no way these nitwits expected to just waltz in at 3:50 to miss the previews, right?

I've been to several presidential appearances in my life (Reagan, Bush I, Obama) and if you're not 2 hours early, you're late.

Something about this story makes me think it didn't happen like they say it did.

Sometime in the next 3 days they will end up on Rush, talking about this violation of their rights by Obama's secret service. Since the White House won't respond, due to the whole thing being one big wet dream, it will be marked down as true. You will continue to hear about this case every time the president addresses discrimination during the next 3 years.

not quite the same situation, but republicans complaining about exclusion is just not going to get any sympathy from me

UPDATE 7/26, 1:50 PM EDT:
School spokesman Jeff Murphy released a statement to Campus Reform on Friday morning calling the allegations "unfounded."
"No one who presented a ticket was turned away prior to all doors being locked in accordance with Secret Service procedures," he said.

I attended the school in question. Doors were shut due to maximum capacity (i.e. anyone who didn't get in got there LATE). People don't understand how events like this work. A ticket does NOT guarantee entry. Promoters assume that a certain percentage of people will not use their free tickets, so they give out more tickets than they have capacity to ensure a full crowd. It is up to the individual to get there on time.

Whatever happened to personal responsibility, Republicans?

No this picture works on a few levels. It speaks to BOB's thin skin, makes him out to be an ass-wipe, everyone knows his policies are crap, and he's flushing this country done the toilet.

And for those of you on the left that prefer the government do everything for you including wipe your ass... well, I kind of already know that you're the ones who are going to attack this observation and that you smell like shiat.

That's a good point. In the age when everyone and his brother has a camera phone you'd think there would at least be a video to be outraged over.

Rainn Wilson once spoke at my college.  There were kids who showed up 90 minutes early and failed to get in.  If this was the president, I would show up 4 hours early or just watch it on TV.

This is basically classic republican entitlement syndrome.  They can't fathom the idea that other people wanted to see the president more than they did, showed up earlier than they did, and thus deserved to get in ahead of them.
