Over a year between greens. Yeesh.

Next year's anniversary show looks unreal

I haven't been to a Wacken in about 15 years but I'm going to start stashing away money. Between Emperor, King Diamond, Kreator and the chance to watch Nergal make cancer look like weak and foolish in person.

I guess that depends on how you define obscure, subby.  I don't see it hitting the top 40 anytime soon.  But I don't care, I listen to what I like, and so should everyone else.

Actually found a couple good things this week after a long drought.

The album has been out for a while, but I just found out about this band because they just signed with a label.  Here's Maestrick, a progressive EVERYTHING band from Brazil.  The album as a whole probably won't appeal to those who hate prog rock, but this song is plenty metal, including a bit of growling.

And some great progressive power metal, here's Illusion Suite from Norway.

EMPEROR. My God, I might have to start saving for a trip to Germany next year.

On the note of this year's WOA, I hope Lemmy is OK.

SMHC = Sunday Metal House Call. It's a weekly thing on the entertainment tab where a Metal song video gets linked and all of us Metalheads discuss either the video or just random metal-related things.

I was just reading Preloc's "Meditations on a Crimson Shadow" so I'm getting a kick out of this.

Obscure in this case is relative since metal is all about niches. In terms of exposure though, they likely benefited more than the majority of the other bands on the bill.

I liked it when they played lots of notes really close together.

Decent music ruined once again by generic bland vocals.

Hey guys, I bit of self promotion this week. My atmospheric metal band is running a kickstarter to get some vinyl made. If you enjoy cascadian nature based metal it might be worth checking out. This is quite a bit of acoustic sections on the vinyl. There are only 2 copies left to preorder through the kickstarter so give it a look. Plus even if you hate the music, a clear square lathe cut vinyl is pretty cool regardless.

from what I understand there will be a new Behemoth album around the end of the year. I saw him on the Decibel tour last year and they destroyed. He walked on stage and yelled "It's good to be alive" and everyone went crazy

About a week ago I saw a local band called House of Atreus. They're better than almost everything I've heard this year. Simplest way to describe them is Arghoslent without the disgusting racism. Their riffing is so so good.

Yeah, I saw that tour in Baltimore. It was great. I'm excited for new Behemoth material, but I'm praying Emperor puts out a new album.

My rec for the week is an album I came across, released at the end of last year by Munruthel. A one-man project by the ex-drummer of Nokturnal Mortem. Symphonic Pagan metal/black metal. Absolutely outstanding album.

New Powerwolf comes out this month. I'm excited. New Amon Amarth's on its way too.

The music is great ...wish I could get a no-vocal version. I miss the hard metal where people sang to it.

///Symphony X

Funny you should mention Iced Earth, there are many times I wish they just wouldn't sing.

/I feel that way about a lot of metal bands
//dear aspiring musicians, you do not NEED to force us to listen to poorly written, poorly growled vocals to be 'metal' if you have fantastic instrumental work

Ah, the Diamond Head approach to songwriting. I dig it.

I don't know about his politics or anything...don't care. But he was drumming with NM when they were supposedly more NS, I reckon.
