Dude you lucked out. That is a very difficult thing to do and actually proves you didn't need to be there.Trust me on this. It's true.

I still have the wrist band!

I were my bracelets proudly : )

History Girl ;) , ever read Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test?

LoL : ) Why don't you ask me next if I've read Doors of Perception and Heaven and Hell by good ole Aldous. ; )

Have you read The

Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby?
Since we're asking questions.

No, I haven't read that. Will check it out though.
Good night...

many returns of that.   learning you're a reader of very cool books makes it all the more so.

what's your stance on the beatniks?

I have a copy of Howl that Allen Ginsberg signed and drew a sunflower in (and then went out for drinks with him and about 20 other people), and have visited Kerouac's grave, if that gives you any inclination of how I feel about them.

I like to take in the world of recorded music and play everything that doesn't suck, in my opinion.  Playlist from tonight is posted upthread.

archives of shows are located here, along with playlists.  tonight's show will be there for download in the morning

Well okay I'm mess this up but the beat poets and hippies after them were more than the name. If I recall the name beat comes from the pace of living. probably in Howl to drunk to recall. Anyway the beatnik/Hippie was a later term that the media loved and well ... anyway I'd say the beatniks were the first independent thought post war which was a very important thing. .

Of course that's where media comes in most people still believe in hippies even though San Francisco held a funeral for Hippie son of Media back in 1967 I believe?
Growing up I had to look and read for references to Ginsburg and Kerouac. Before then I thought the beatnics were just motercycle guys in leather jackets.

Damn, I slept right thru it, or Squeezeboxes uses the same source as TuneIn [Turns the box on, select KTOO, hear some blues music. Seems to be working]

Woke up at 2am. The snot machine ran full bore tonight. Took a shower. The humid air in the shower usually capture flying particles and helps loosing up the stuff clogging my sinuses but tonight just exhaling thru the nose created twin dangling globs of snot. Fun!

I was a very sheltered suburban Oklahoma kid brought up by way-right conservative Baptists (who, in their favor, took me to seedy blues clubs, bbq dives, and soul food meat & three restaurants, from Galveston, through Memphis, Louisiana and into small town Mississippi, and all throughout the south , but I dreamed of moving to the mountains.  When I was 17, I met a wonderful girl who introduced me to both the wonderful world of sex and Kerouac, both of which totally changed everything I wanted out of life.  From there, I ventured into the world of hallucinogens, reading clinical studies on acid for about a year before trying it, and then branching out into MDMA, mushrooms, peyote, and so forth.  I'm still friends with that woman today, and we have a 100 Years Of Solitude kind of wistful friendship. She got a doctorate in Russian and then became a kind of modern day hippie momma of four kids, while I dropped out of college and started cooking professionally before starting my own family and moving to Alaska  From the time I met her, my life changed course and ultimately led me to where I am today, and while there have been years of less than optimal living, I wouldn't trade my trajectory for the world.  It gave me these two:
