Gaffey had to propose four times before the camera crew had the right shot.

The last time looked the most authentic. Lame!

I didn't read the article, did it say what the dog's thoughts were about the first time they met and what their plans for the future are? Did the dogs let us in on what they to say about what common ground they had reached on having puppies and whether they had discussed this with their owners?

I'm guessing there's some kind of text-to-speech.  But you'd need to do speech-to-text to make it a text.  You could skip the middleman there and just do speech-to-speech.  If only there was a device that, aside from allowing you to text, allowed you to speak to another person and have that person hear you and speak back...

There are degrees of vision impairment. People with partial vision fall under the old definition of "legally blind." I hired a student once whose resume listed "legally blind" under skills and abilities. She wore thick glasses and needed to use the zoom on her PC at about 150%. She also outperformed the other summer staff by about that same number.

Text to voice / voice to text would be my guess, but at that point you might as well just call.

Also could be that they're not completely blind, maybe? You can be legally blind, and still need a guide dog, but still be able to see up REALLY close.

Because maybe they don't know if the other person is busy at that moment or not, so they send a text instead of calling to make sure that if they are busy, they can get to the message at a time that's convenient to them?

You know, the same reason why sighted folks text instead of calling.

Very sweet.  In a room full of seeing eye dogs, Rodd and Venice (very romantic names) spot each other and fall in love instantly and remain in love to this day.  And there owners follow suit.

Good for the doggies!
Guide dogs are one of the most dedicated, self sacrificing creatures on the entire planet.

Those two are yellow Labs, and I'm sure deep inside they would much rather be running around acting like looney tunes just like any other Lab.

Any time I see a service dog actually having fun it makes me happy.

Whoever owns these dogs, I tip my hat to. Not that it would matter.
Maybe if I raised my voice?

Mia would tell you she'd rather work than anything else, but she's buried so deep in the pillows she can't hear anything.

Dogs love to do things. Dogs love to be with people. Getting to do something with people is a dog's idea of heaven on earth.  Service dogs are dedicated, serious, and usually happy to be working.  Sure, they get tired, have bad days, and get fed up with idiocy like everyone else, but for the most part they'd rather be out working. If they dislike working, dislike people, or dislike working with people,  they don't make good service dogs.

tetsoushima: I hate when the dog watches us coming.

Just had a conversation with the GF about this. I don't mind when the dog is the room during sex, but when I'm, er, flying solo he just sits there and stares at me. If I shut the door or go into the bathroom he whimpers until I open it (you know some dogs - always on the wrong side of the door).

Well, it's getting on my nerves. He's a sweet pooch but I just can't fap in front of the dog. Maybe if he were lying there it wouldn't be so weird, but he farking stares at me the whole time. She says that I'm silly to even consider this an issue, but it just skeeves me out for some reason.

Can't speak for the UK, but I know for fact that Guiding Eyes for the Blind does spay/neuter every service dog.
