I somehow doubt candy cigarettes actually promote smoking by any measurable amount.

I priced them at Amazon just a few days ago. I wonder if the cigarettes they have for sale are left-over stock from the 80s. Not like it would matter, as they'd still taste the same. I loved those things.

If they're so bad, then ban them. Oh yea, lots of tax money to be had while people are killing themselves.

/i preferred the candy cigars even though my dad smoked very disgusting cigars in the car.

I was never really into the candy cigarettes.  They tasted disgusting and even as a kid, I equating them with gross and unhealthy habits.  On the other hand, those chocolate candy butt plugs they used to make, now those were the bomb.

We have a small candy/nut shop around the corner from the office that still sells these (and flying saucers!!!)

CSB: I actually graduated from candy cigarettes to real cigarettes at an early age (11).  We loved pretending to look cool with the candy cigarettes and it was a natural progression to want to actually smoke to look cool.  I quite smoking 25 years ago (June 4, 88) but I still miss them...almost every day.  :/

They still sell them around here, but they just call them "candy sticks" now

Cigarettes are bad for you...but its your God given right to smoke 'em and pay gov't taxes on 'em.

Alcohol is bad for you...but its your God given right to drown your liver and pay gov't taxes on the booze.

Marijuana has been medically proven to ease anxiety and pain...ZOMG SAVE THE PEOPLE FROM THEMSELVES!

FTA: "Since December cigarette packs are required to be a drab green color with warnings covering 75% of the pack"

/still wouldn't matter if they did that here or started putting those graphic images on packs people that want to smoke will smoke no matter what.

//although I miss the candy cigarettes as well.  remember buying them at the corner store when I was in school.  We would actually pull them out and let them hang from our mouths in class.  We weren't chastised for something that glamorized a bad habit rather we got in trouble for not buying enough to share with the class

Speaking of nostaglia, I loved pop rocks as a kid until that stupid kid who played Mikey on those Life Cereal commercials foolishly combined eating pop rocks with drinking 7-up, which caused his stomach to blow up.  Pop rocks were then yanked from the market for a bit.

I doubt one kid ever got taken by such an add, but the point is to stigmatize smoking as a bad thing. That makes it easier to pass laws against it.
There are a growing number of parallels in anti-smoke that we could have found in the lead up to prohibition.

It starts off with noble intentions (smoking isn't exactly good for you, but then again neither is working). Then it snowballs into a campaign of misinformation, brainwashing children, manipulating the law to enforce peoples ideals, threats to store owners and even vandalism. Political arm twisting soon follows and its not long before the worlds leaders are off trying to legislate morality again.

/People could have just minded their own business instead of calling the cops.
/then again I suppose that's better than smashing the place up with a hatchet.

I remember having a pack of those back in the mid-70s when I went to a 4th of July fireworks show with my dad and brother. As we were walking around the staging area for the fireworks, i broke one out and blew some "smoke" out of it in front of one of the technicians. He bugged out because he thought it was a real cigarette...

Good times.

Heh. Used to buy these at the drug store when I was a kid for something like a quarter a piece.

I just bought some of these exact candies last week at the Archie McPhee store in Seattle.

You can get them online, too.

http://mcphee.com/shop/just-like-dad-candy-cigarettes.html

People need to grow up and stop complaining over stupid little things.  I ate candy cigarette all the time and never smoked cigs.

CSB:
My mom would send me to the corner store with a $20.  The shopkeep would sell me a carton of cigs for her and a candy bar for me.  I was 11.  It was 1981.

I never smoked or caused any sort of trouble, whereas my brother, who never got to go to the store for my mom, found all sorts of illegal pot, hash, pills, and coke.  Thank goodness the Maude Flanders'es of the world are looking out for the children these days.

Vodka Zombie: I hated those things, but I occasionally get mad, unstoppably insane cravings for that cheap bubblegum whose flavor lasted in the milliseconds.

Do you know why that is?

Environmentalists.

Back in my day chewing gum was made from chicle.  You could chew a piece all day and it still had flavor.  Then the thin-skinned bed-wetters (tree huggers) made a big stink over harvesting chicle.  No more chicle gum.

You know who is responsible for chewing gum?  Santa Ana -- the guy that whipped ass at the Alamo.

2013-08-03 10:26:31 PM
I remember bubble gum cigarettes that were cylinders of pink gum in paper tubes. When you blew into them a little puff of sugary dust would come out the other end. We would put various substances into the empty paper tubes and try to smoke them. Dry tree bark worked the best. Are you guys judging me?

As a funny corollary, I used to smoke cigarettes, and I never had candy cigs as a kid 'cause they're already been think-of-the-children'd away.

Imagine the psychological damage you're doing to your kids when you give them popsicles.  It's no wonder so many of our nation's girls are cock hungry whores and our boys are dick-crazy homosexuals.

"The government aims to slash the smoking rate from 16 to 10 per cent by 2018. It ramped up tobacco taxes by 25 per cent in 2010 and this week announced they would rise by 12.5 per cent a year for the next four years pushing up the price of a pack by $5."

Bull farking shiat!

Sorry but few if any smokers quit because of price increases. If they really wanted to reduce the amount of smokers, they would take those cigarette tax revenues and supply smokers with free smoking cessation classes, nicotine patches, gum and inhalers to help them quit. It's never about getting people to quit, it's about raising taxes, simple as that.
