Y'know, the first time I heard that song was in my car, and I had a ton of static. It sounded like they were singing, "I'm up on Mexican monkeys." I spent the rest of that drive trying to figure out how a song about interspecies sex was getting such prominent airplay.

Can they even talk through those helmets?

MrEricSir: Can they even talk through those helmets?

Yeah I honestly thought those helmets were to preserve their anonymity and private life.  Maybe they'll autotune their voices.

The first few times I heard it I thought it was a Justin Timberlake song.

I'm expecting one of two scenarios:
1. Colbert asks questions while Daft Punk just sits there blankly, like The Stig. After a few minutes of this, they perform a couple songs.

2. They plan out the interview questions beforehand and reply entirely in vocal samples from various songs.

/likes most of RAM
//Still prefers Discovery, even have a copy of it on my turntable right now.

Face it, disco ended up winning their war between white trash rock fans. House and hip-hop are bigger than any form of rock music, it's been that way for a while now. I'm pretty sure disco never even died in Europe in the first place.

Well not on the radio stations that I listen to.

Until these punks. They're getting play and it it brings me right back to bell bottoms, big hair and repetitive thump, thump, thump.

I like daft punk but I really don't get all the love the new album is getting.

I mean, it's okay but I thought Discovery was and still is their best album with Human After All coming in a close second. a lot of the songs they did for Tron were excellent as well.

that I said, I dig the new album - but I don't get why it and Get Lucky have been such massive hits.

if you hate Daft Punk and only know them because of Get Lucky I highly recommend checking out the Discovery album.

I like the song a lot (super catchy, etc.) until it gets to the part when the vocoder voices (Daft Punk themselves, I assume) come in. Then I change the station.

local dance/pop radio station plays it 24/7 along with "blurred lines"

/ hey, 1999 called, they want their vocoder back. and they can keep it.

I had hoped it wasn't just me.  The music on "alternative" radio now, like this, sweater weather, electric blue, etc.... sounds like it just needs to be punched.  Do singers just go out and get their balls cut off for kicks now?

Why would they need to be there? Anyone could press the button that starts the sequencer.

Ignoring the majority of the album being live performances, you'd be right.

I love discovery, I love RAM.  Two have 2 massively awesome albums with 13 years between...that's crazy.

There are 18 years old now who were only 6 when Discovery came out, and some not even born when DP was getting big.

Will they be inviting Edwin Birdsong to thank him for writing their biggest hit for them, too?

Oh, right... They never paid him for borrowing most of his song Cola Bottle Baby. They just sampled it and took credit for the cool hook he wrote.

/I do like their Tron soundtrack, though.
//But they are rather shameless with their "sampling" from other artists.

If they credited him for the song, I'd be really surprised if they didn't have to clear and pay for the sample just like any other artists these days...

Despite the old funk sampling, Daft Punk does good work.  I thought they did an excellent job of Tron, and proves that they can produce really good music when they commit themselves.
