It's peak Coke, dammit!

Yes. People have realized that soda(And it's called soda) is horribly bad for you on many, many levels.  There are a number of other ways to get caffeine without also ingesting the high fruitcose corn syrup that comes with soda.

Peak soda? Have we also hit peak scotch then?

I drink soda that doesn't suck. Like Jones Soda, for instance. (They also lack high fructose corn syrup. And I'm not a moron that thinks HFCS is bad for you, it just tastes bad. Cane sugar tastes so much better.)

Do you prefer the turkey-flavored soda or the Brussels sprouts-flavored soda?

Yes, the misuse of "begs the question" to mean "raises the question" irritates me greatly. We need the expresson "begs the question" as long as there are conservatives.

; )

Just kidding. Everybody abuses logic and language. Some people just do it noticeably more frequently.

eh, everyone is still buying soda from the same big companies they just buy it without the syrup and the carbonation.

2013-08-03 05:20:15 PM
Haven't drank a drop of that stuff for now about 2 years.

Used to go through one 2 liter bottle per day (the diet variety though).

Don't miss it the slightest. Haven't subbed it with coffee or other sources of caffeine either.

Mexican Coke and Mountain Dew Throwback use cane sugar so you can even get your soda fix without the HFCS.

Charging $6 for a 12 pack doesn't help either when you can get a lesser brand such as Shasta for half of that.

I think everyone is starting to drink beer more.

The solution is for either Coca-Cola or Pepsi to buy the Samuel Adams or another mid-size beer company.

Coke and Pepsi don't care, they own almost every other major non-alcoholic beverage company now so they make money no matter what you buy to drink.

I'm on the same road to recovery....6 months "clean". I always like unsweetened tea more anyways...(Wawa diet tea is also acceptable)

I rarely drink soda these days, but I do use this calorie-free Mio "water enhancer" which is probably worse, health-wise...

Gave up soda 2+ years ago. Drink mainly unsweetened iced tea and water now. Haven't really missed it.

Me and Mrs Nob were buying 4 fridge packs every two weeks of mostly decaf diet coke. Stopped cold turkey about two months ago. Have not missed it in the least. I still get one occasionally at Wendy's, but for the most part we are done with pop.

Same boat. Plain, unsweetened iced tea as opposed to the gallon of diet Pepsi I used to suck down daily. I grew up with Wawa and it's one of the few things I miss about home.

/Wawa diet iced tea is still laced with aspartamine.

I hit peak soda when they stopped selling Dr Pepper Ten. It sucks, because I don't always want to drink water, but most diet sodas are nasty and I don't need hundreds of extra calories.

Seriously, that's the one diet soda that actually tasted decent enough to not make me wish I was having a regular soda, and they had to take it off the shelves?!

3 months working on cutting sodas out.  I've had 4.  one i bought as a "You quit the job you hate for a better one" pizza night (going no/low carbs as well so this was a special night) and the others had been bought for me after soccer games and the fella's knew I don't drink but for 5 years had always bought me a soda instead.  I graciously accepted the offer but let them know to pass me up next time.

As a personal observation, try the Dr Pete mix from Sodastream. It's one of my favorites and they hit the nail on the head with it. Just like Dr Pepper with no HFCS (yes, it's still brown fizzy water but slightly less bad in terms of calories and sugar content).

Used to work in a home housewares store and got a SS for a MASSIVE discount. It's a fun toy, but there are a easily buldable variations on a water carbonator without spending $50 on the official plastic thingy.

It all tastes like crap to me. I don't understand why they don't go back to cane sugar. Geez, they raise about 280,000 acres of sugar cane in south Florida. It's not like there's a shortage of cane sugar.

Actually actually because of Federal protectionism for sugar producers and subsidies for corn production.

Pretty much, I like Coca-Cola but even on sale it clocks in well over $4 these days. Chek Cola (Winn-Dixie brand) regular price is about $2.50 a 12 pack and is regularly on sale for less than that. A single 20 oz bottle cold is up to $1.60 at most places. Even the last bastion of cheap coke (2 liter bottles) is pushing $3 these days.

I also tried the soda stream but I though the soda went flat a bit too quickly for my liking. Flavor was pretty good though.

Is this the thread where we all self righteously declare we don't drink soda and look down upon the unwashed masses that do?
