Yeah, he only won 67-27. I'm sure he'd have been toast without Sarah's $5,000 contribution.

Political fact: $125 buys a point in special elections.

There are at least 1717 people- and likely thousands more- who have less than $200 to spend on politics, and they gave it to her.

That's...that' s amazing.

Although, there are Federal Laws about how a campaign can spend donations.  Lacking even a GED in law, let alone election finance law, I have to wonder if her hubris might find her in a cell somewhere?

Not that we want to make a martyr of her, but an example, perhaps?

PAC money is not the same as campaign contributions. If I'm not mistaken, everything this PAC did was legal. Immoral? Sure. Unethical? You betcha! But illegal? Not in the least, and as others have said, anything that keeps money from being spent on actual right-wing lunatic tea-party candidates is fine by me.

Considering that no one cares that Weiner spent $45k of campaign money to find the hacker, I doubt there are any laws about this.

But what did Palin spend money on that she shouldn't have?  It seems it is all about promoting her speaking agenda which does support candidates and her position.  It is called SarahPac for a reason.

TDS did a really good piece on how she swindles her supporters back in 2011, when Palin was rumored to be running for President.  SarahPAC was sending out pamphlets to her supporters asking them to donate money as a sign of encouragement while she pondered whether or not to run.  Shortly after that, Bristol Palin had an interview on FOX News where they asked her if she knew whether her mom was going to run for the presidency or not, and she answered that the family was already aware of the decision but "some things were best kept in the family".

So, basically, Sarah Palin cashed in on the hype around her presidential bid by asking for contributions for a campaign that she never intended to launch.  There is nothing smart about the way she scams her supporters; they're just actually dumber than she is.

2013-08-02 07:06:10 PM

tenpoundsofcheese: subby, where is the part about the money is being used to support her "lavish lifestyle" ?

FTFA:
"Despite its stated purpose of supporting like-minded candidates, it donated to only one-giving $5,000 to Jason Smith, a conservative Republican backed by the NRA and pro-life groups who won a special election in Missouri's Eighth Congressional District in June by a margin of 67-27.
In contrast, the group spent almost $484,000 on fundraising, research, speechwriting, and high-end travel. This is a comedown from the 2012 cycle, when SarahPAC raised eyebrows for spending more than $4.8 million on consultants while doling out $298,500 to candidates.
The people funding Sarah Palin's lifestyle and entourage were primarily small donors."

BREAKING NEWS! BREAKING NEWS!

People contribute money to a PAC that I disagree with and when contributors are told of how the PAC spends its money they state that they believe that it is being appropriately spent! Unbelievable, especially in this day and age. Someone should alert the government to make sure that people can't spend money on what they consider appropriate purposes.

odinsposse: Whenever I read stories like this I always wonder how I can get in on the action. The main problem being I don't think I could hide my contempt like Sarah does.

The other day after reading about North Carolina and their efforts to lower the qualifications of charter school teachers to not needing any degree, I jokingly made a comment to my father saying "I'm going to try to figure out how to get into the NC charter school game, there is money to be made". He looked at me and said "Son, you don't want to make your money from bullshiat."

And that is it right there. Fleecing dumb, naive or mentally challenged people isn't very difficult to do. However most people aren't going to do it because they have some sense of right and wrong, and quite frankly their conscious won't let them do it.

This is so true. I deal with a few of them (family members no less) and even after pointing out irrefutable facts on any issue that she is completely wrong about, those family members simply return a dumb, confused look with glazed over eyes. Its like talking to a brick when they get into Palin-mode. Then they send her money. It leaves me speechless.

Yup....Snake Oil Politics at its finest.

The fascinating part of that is that Charter Schools regularly outperform traditional public schools, even though most don't require their teachers to have a BS degree in poetry or 13th century literature.

Teachers unions consistently try to misrepresent charter school performance by lumping in the performance of dropout recovery charter schools, which is about half of them and only serve students who are by definition lower performing, in their analysis. However, dropout recovery charters consistently produce more qualified graduates than equivalently situated public schools and non-dropout recovery charters vastly out perform their public school peers.

In fairness, charter schools tend to not jack up wages for irrelevant humanities degrees and instead focus on paying folks that actually demonstrate an ability to teach the material they are assigned to teach. So, the charter school career path may not be in your best interest.

She is a wonderful grifter. I can at least respect her determination to not let a sucker keep their money.

First of all, that claim seems contradictory. If "most" of the contributions are going toward fundraising, research (?), speechwriting (LOL!!) and travel, how can "the bulk" of the expenditures be going to consultants?

Second, whatever they're paying the speechwriter is too much.
