Small donors, of less than $200, are grouped together in un-itemized donations. Over 75 percent of SarahPAC's donations-$341,556 out of a total of $446,880-were un-itemized.

There are at least 1717 people- and likely thousands more- who have less than $200 to spend on politics, and they gave it to her.

That's...that' s amazing.

I've been getting bombarded with conservative PAC calls lately.  I've had recorded messages from Ann Coulter, Rick Santorum, and Newt Gingrich.  A virtual who's who of conservative losers.  But not one call from Sarah or her PAC.

I'm tired of seeing this argument. People like Rush had a core, crazy demographic of followers before he peaked and he'll have one long after he's dead and gone. Same for Palin. Pretending that the detractors are responsible for their ongoing "relevance" is a fundamental misunderstanding of the direction of causation.

Considering that no one cares that Weiner spent $45k of campaign money to find the hacker, I doubt there are any laws about this.

PAC money is not the same as campaign contributions. If I'm not mistaken, everything this PAC did was legal. Immoral? Sure. Unethical? You betcha! But illegal? Not in the least, and as others have said, anything that keeps money from being spent on actual right-wing lunatic tea-party candidates is fine by me.

TDS did a really good piece on how she swindles her supporters back in 2011, when Palin was rumored to be running for President.  SarahPAC was sending out pamphlets to her supporters asking them to donate money as a sign of encouragement while she pondered whether or not to run.  Shortly after that, Bristol Palin had an interview on FOX News where they asked her if she knew whether her mom was going to run for the presidency or not, and she answered that the family was already aware of the decision but "some things were best kept in the family".

So, basically, Sarah Palin cashed in on the hype around her presidential bid by asking for contributions for a campaign that she never intended to launch.  There is nothing smart about the way she scams her supporters; they're just actually dumber than she is.

In contrast, the group spent almost $484,000 on fundraising, research, speechwriting, and high-end travel. This is a comedown from the 2012 cycle, when SarahPAC raised eyebrows for spending more than $4.8 million on consultants while doling out $298,500 to candidates.
The people funding Sarah Palin's lifestyle and entourage were primarily small donors."

The fascinating part of that is that Charter Schools regularly outperform traditional public schools, even though most don't require their teachers to have a BS degree in poetry or 13th century literature.

Teachers unions consistently try to misrepresent charter school performance by lumping in the performance of dropout recovery charter schools, which is about half of them and only serve students who are by definition lower performing, in their analysis. However, dropout recovery charters consistently produce more qualified graduates than equivalently situated public schools and non-dropout recovery charters vastly out perform their public school peers.

In fairness, charter schools tend to not jack up wages for irrelevant humanities degrees and instead focus on paying folks that actually demonstrate an ability to teach the material they are assigned to teach. So, the charter school career path may not be in your best interest.

The real fascinating part about it that charter school proponents forget to include is that public schools have to accept everybody, they don't get to pick and choose who they want to attend their school. So if your child is difficult or doesn't meet the standards for a charter school, they will be at the public school, and those teachers are trying their best to educate them.

TFerWannaBe: My estimation of Palin's intellect has increased. Fleecing rubes probably isn't that hard, but surely doing it so thoroughly requires some greater than average intelligence.

That's overselling it a bit. She's the middle age evolution of the cheerleader who convinces the nerdy loser to do her homework for her, claiming she'll one day let him play with her boobs.

Also, like most of Sarah's pearls of wisdom, it smells like ass.

Oh thanks a LOT for the imagery.

We had ass pennies, now we got ass pearls.

Nacre, please.

The little dollar bill stunt would be more interesting and realistic if she taped $1000 to one, and only one, of the seats.

Think she could convince ~50% of the crowd to vote in favor not only of the lucky recipient getting to keep all of it, but also giving them $0.25 of their own dollar?

Apik0r0s: Congratulations on discovering the true nature of most "non-profits", "not-for-profits" and "charities" - which is to enrich those who run them.

This

<CSB> I briefly worked for an environmental group that got its funds via door-to-door canvassing. What can I say? I was young, idealistic, and wanted to make the world a better place. I soon discovered that canvassing for a non-profit was not the way to do it. I got to keep 50% of what I raised and the rest got divided up between nebulous administrative charges and some other non-profit that supposedly sets up cameras in the rain forest to help combat illegal logging etc...

I quit after a month because I felt the whole enterprise to be dishonest to those who wanted to make the world a better place by opening up their pocket-books. Where I live it's mostly liberal leaning groups that do canvassing, and I think its a total shell game for people to pretend like they're "activitsts" while neither accomplishing the good they set out to do nor being actually productive (aside from the marginal economic effect of spending the money that they're "earning" at farmer's markets and trendy eco-friendly shops, etc...).

Your anecdote has handily disproved the work of non-profits and charities everywhere. Well done.

So Palin-Americans are not only stupid enough to send money to her in the futile hope that she will actually run for something at some point but when told outright that they are being scammed they will go on defending her?

*considers this*

Part of me wants to congratulate her on running such a profitable enterprise but another part of me recognizes that it's bad to take advantage of the mentally feeble.

/Is it just me or do other people start to hear the theme song from The Sting playing in their heads when Palin's mug shows up on TV or in a Fark thread?
//Just me?

Hardly, I'd say. In my experience, however, groups whose primary source of revenue is door-to-door donations exist primarily as a way of providing jobs for the petitioners while the causes they claim to be advocating aren't advanced. If you think I was referring to, say, Amnesty International, the ACLU, Global Food Project, OXFAM, Planned Parenthood, etc..., then job well done on completely missing my point.

A lot of charities and non-profits not really doing much != all non-profits and charities not doing much

Something, something, sets, subsets, something or other

FTFY. Poor REPUBLICANS are just victims of circumstance/Obama, so their social security and welfare are entirely justified. It's those "urban" poor people that are the problem!
