John McCain has called an emergency meeting of top Republicans so they can figure out how to be outraged over this.

syrynxx: John McCain has called an emergency meeting of top Republicans so they can figure out how to be outraged over this.

They've already announced their pending statement:

Sadly, instead of learning hard lessons from Benghazi -- lessons that would have required an honest look at the cascade of failures that led to the death of a US ambassador, lessons that would have required admitting the significant errors, lessons that would have involved owning up to hard responsibility -- the Obama administration has adopted a "duck and cower" approach to security overseas. Theirs is akin to a schoolboy who's learned all too well that a rubber ball in the face hurts, but has learned nothing else. And so instead of learning to protect himself, instead of learning to catch the ball, he instead learns only to flinch mindlessly every time a bully so threatens him. Flinch and hide, cover and hope for the best. Mr. President, that approach might get you through elementary school. It won't get you through the threat of global terrorism.

So we narrowly avoided hearings.  (name of capitol city here) coverup, etc.

Wait a minute! Since when has there ever been a US Embassy open on a Sunday? I've never seen such a thing.

Rumor has it they suggested a special session be convened (that would cut into the congressional vacation time) to de-fund Obamacare because that would pay for troops needed to deploy and put wheels on the aircraft carriers so they could drive across land to get closer to the problem and keep the embassies open.

They also would defund the Benghazi Planned Parenthood Office if it exists, because, you know, A.C.O.R.N and everywhere McCain goes, "everyone is telling him to do this".

But this is just a rumor.

i work at embassies overseas and am getting a kick out of these replies.

actually- i transfer to my next assignment on monday. it's in central america so i don't think it will be closing.

i did serve in baghdad for 14 months and in kabul for 24. lots of idf and a couple of ieds at the first and two rockets and three ied attacks at the second. we were basically prisons at those two. minimal public contact. other places in that area aren't like that. they are also more open and used by the public for visa functions.

My last post was Iraq.  We got the same threats of violence at the end of Ramadan every year.  Each year nothing happened.  Sunday will come and go with nothing major taking place.

Thisbymaster: I have an idea, keep them closed until the countries get the terrorists themselves . Stop wasting our money and people overseas.

Ha!  If the military and police in Iraq didn't have our hand-holding they would have never accomplished a thing.  Graduating elementary school was a bragging point for politicians in Baghdad.  Imagine the level of education the police and military had.  There are lots of places in the world, inhabited by both peaceful and dangerous people.  In many of those places the peaceful people need a helping hand because of resources and/or education.

I worked at an American Embassy in a Muslim country for a couple of years. We were open Sunday through Thursday, and closed Friday (Islamic holy day) and Saturday.

Stop me if I'm wrong, but is there any point to closing an embassy? Doesn't everyone who works there generally live there? If crazies want to bomb it or break in and hurt people... the people will still be there, right?

The depressing part of that post is that, for a bit, I was honestly unsure if PocketNinja was actually quoting a GOP idiot or just whipping out another plausible hoax.

We had credible threats the embassy in Benghazi should have been closed or security beefed up. This is all Obama's fault and he should be run out of office.
