Happy Caturday Folks!!!

On behalf of the PS Farkers, we lost Lightgiver this week.  Safe journey my good friend.
He raised Alpaca and we are honoring him in the PS Contests on Monday.

In the meantime, here is a kitty who photobombed his site.....

And here is his webpage.

Happy dance!

I iz gonna lurn to use Win8z noa cuz that's wut itz gotz.
t.qkme.me

Actually, I'm not even going to power it up until I get the new monitor, too. Until then, I shall sit and admire it's sleek beauty and shiny, new computer smell. Which I should probably quit sniffing and actually put the keyboard tray on my desk, since that's the only part I didn't do when I built the desk. That, and the plastic bag around the purty new CPU says "DANGER! THIS BAG IS NOT A TOY!", as if I thought they were going to toss a freebie toy in there or sumfing. Which would have been a nice touch, true, but nothing I'd expect.

I'm very happy right now!

Well, they've met the oncologist. It seems the median survival time is about 8 months. Radiation treatments begin a week from tomorrow; now we're all just pretending things can go back to normal.

Speaking of which, plasmacats!

Anxious

I feel you in the night
Suddenly tense.

It is quiet outside.
You are safe.

Get up and roam
Get a drink of water

Come back to bed.
Settle in again.

Gentle hands stroke my fur.
Sometimes lifting me.

Closer.

I purr for you.
Flop down tightly

To your side.

Sleep
Precious person.

No harm will
Come to you.

I will keep you
Warm.

Relaxed.

All is right in
The world.

I am here.

sno man: Real Women Drink Akvavit: Older Guy, Sno Man, are you guize telling me I'm going to have to like buy one of those "for dummies" books since I do not have a touch screen? How difficult is this going to be for me to figure out, ya think? Remember, I never learned how to program a VCR. But Win 3.1 was just fine for me. I liked it. (I also still remember some line commands, so there's that).

[branain.com image 555x394]

I'm probably making it out to sound worse than it is, IT IS Different, but you can get it working pretty much like pre 8 Windows fairly quickly.  And it sounds like the 8.1 release will address some of my issues.  If you have some experience with a smart phone or a tablet it would help, but isn't necessary.  Basically they are trying to make windows idiot proof.  The trouble is all the idiots (like myself) that learned every Windows OS since 3.1 have been left twisting in the wind for this truly dumbed down interface, that while simple, is different enough to leave you lost half the time looking for a new way to do some something you could do in your sleep in an older version.
And if that wasn't enough, that 16bit solitaire that's been around since Win95 is gone(!)
I also have a side beef about the latest PaintShop Pro X5... I had an antique version on the old laptop and it's a pretty step learning curve for this new one.  And the new laptop has a few of the 'extra' keys in different spots so sometimes I try to one thing and other random things happen...
Just too many changes all at once I think...

funny shopping story btw! :^)

I have an older system that has Win95 and Win98SE on it.. don't go online with it, but it,s loaded with vintage software and fun to play with.. and I have Win3.1 and 5.1 OS disk sets .. got a 286 in good condition that I may load with them...also dual boot...  and Win2000Pro disk set...  you never know when that stuff will come in handy....  still think that XP was the best OS ever....

This is a cat.

This is the same cat with laser eyes.

This is a close up of previously aforementioned cat.

Okay, so I've accidentally got a new cat. It's a kitten. I have no idea what to name it. I've never seen a cat/kitten this affectionate. He wants to be held constantly, purrs like a dozen locomotives, and runs around my legs back and forth.

I've been a little worried by Emma's initial reaction, but in all honesty, she doesn't seem to have a problem with him. He did hiss at her a few times the first 24 hours, but she never once hissed back, turned her ears, puffed her tail. Whenever she approached, she was very cautious. Not stalking, but curious, keeping an eye out. If I didn't know better, I'd swear she's trying to be a mother to him, or an older sister. She's been curious, friendly, even playful. Initially though, she was not happy with me. Not jealous per se, but she was angry. She wouldn't let me pet her, she wouldn't sleep in the bed with me, and she wouldn't get up on her perch by my desk. Well, she's better now, and so's he.

I kept them in separate bedrooms for the first few days, but they'd been getting along so well that I decided to change it last night, and they both slept in the bed with me. No issues other than playfully batting right at the start, then settled down.

I've got two litter boxes, though that doesn't seem to matter. They use both interchangeably. He shiats a ton. Not is in often, but just huge shiats. Like a couple of golf balls. And they're definitely his, because Emma doesn't poop like that. Which is shameful that I can recognize that. I've got two food dishes and water dishes too, but I'm not sure that makes a difference either. One's got kitten and other cat food, but meh.

I'm doing everything I can to give Emma and No Name equal attention, which seems to be working. However, he likes t ...

spinach gunk: Well, we returned from our outing to find that not only had Buddy kept down his yams, but he had cleaned off the plate of gooshyfood I'd put out for him earlier that afternoon (even though it getting pretty dried-out by then)!  Such a relief to see after sadly flushing meal after meal down the toilet for the last two days!

So, he got two different brands of gooshyfood and some more yams for dinner.  He ate all the yams but only one of the kinds of gooshyfood, which is not a bad thing since now we know what to avoid for the time being.  Then when we had our dinner, he went cuckoo begging for bits of Mr. Gunk's chicken yakisoba!  Didn't even notice when we hid his pills inside a chunk of chicken, lol!  Later he enjoyed a good longish walk even though it was a little rainy out.  Yay!

Thank you all again for your emotional support as I freak out -- how many other people would share the joy of a dog wanting to eat?  And the worry when he doesn't?  You are all such dear, kind souls, with great big hearts.  I'm sure Buddy would lick each and every one of you if he could.  Hell, so would I.  :)

That's alright. It's the thought that counts, right?

Yay for Buddy! Eating is good.

Chicky update.
The little birds have spent the last week growing in the rest of their feathers. They are all bold enough to go outside now. At first only a few went out but after those girls spent a few evenings talking about how much fun they had, the rest decide to give it a try. Little Frodo was the last to go out, he is not as athletic as the rest and it is hard for him to jump up to the doorway.
Their personalities are starting to show. Some leave the house with wild abandon and jump into the new world with wings outspread. Some just walk quietly and gently join the rest of the flock.
It is very difficult to see the dark colored biddies in the patch of "jungle grass", it is a destination for most of them. They spent one morning in a patch of soft sand and learned to get a dust bath,
The game of fly-tag must involve landing on another chicks head, I don't get that game but it must be fun for them.
At one point during this video a car went up the road, Fiona gave one of here very quiet woofs and startled the girls, they immediately grouped together and stood tall to see what was going on. They seem to be calm birds and got over their scare pretty quick.
Enjoy

I'm doing everything I can to give Emma and No Name equal attention, which seems to be working. However, he likes to interrupt me giving Emma attention and take from her. I'm not responding to it at the moment, I don't know if this is the right thing to do. Only other behavior that's undesirable is that he has been getting up on my desk. With Emma, she knows she can do this, because she can stay on one side. I even have a small bed for her under the lamp. She never goes to the other side. No Name though, he's curious and wants to see it all. When he goes to that side, I take him off the desk and put him down. I don't mind if he gets up on the desk, I just want him on one side of it. And Emma might have something to say about that as well.

So, there it is. I've got two cats now. One beautiful and independent, wanting to be petted and loved on her own terms. One orange and ornery, craving attention and constantly curious. And I need a name for him. His name from the center was Charlie, but I don't really care for that. I've thought about Steve, Hobbes, Kevin, but nothing really seems to fit. Steve does the best, but I don't know. Any ideas on what to call him?

Oh, and his tail is twice as long as Emma's. It's a fairly long tail. Does that mean he's going to be a big cat?

This afternoon I had the opportunity to finally meet my grandson who was born on April 3rd.
My youngest daughter and her husband live almost 200 miles away and prior to this, I haven't had
the chance to go visit them nor have they visited me in the interim.

May I introduce you to my first and only grandson, Ari.

Diocletian's Last Cabbage: Gods, what a day last Friday was. I swear the print said 12'! 12 farking feet! So I stripped the cable 12 feet. Then, the farking QA comes back and sez "The strip length is wrong, biatch".

12 INCHES! 12 GODS DAMNED INCHES! I about lost it at work. So I left work, skipped the speedie festival (I could've got in for free Fri night if I wanted) and headed straight home to partake of the fermented fruits of the Canadian Plains in hopes that enough money will be put into the public coughers to help our Alien out.

I saw that I posted already, but I apparently have Northern Lights-induced goldfish memory because it is all hazy from Sat morning onwards.

I assume that I will have a job after the bosses run the balance sheet for 3rd quarter. If not, it was fun while it lasted.

Going to bail out in a while for a claw trimming for meself. Picking out the colors I want them painted out of my rather extensive collection right now. That's the hardest part, IMO. I am so far winning the bet with myself that I could not make it until October without wearing black polish, which is my standard color, sometimes with another "accent" color. Still, two months to go though and I really, really do miss just grabbing that black and any other color my hand hits and running out the door.

I think I'm going with a pale peach with a bit of shimmer to it as the base and a rose gold shimmer on the tips, like a fancy girl! Oo la la! ;-p

I really want to make some of those labels and go to the local grocery store....Curse you cameras everywhere!

That makes two of us!
Years ago, I used to have a Brother label maker that would hook up via USB and you could
make some extremely good labels using any of the fonts on your computer and dithered
graphics. There were interesting labels found on the shelves at the grocery store we would
patronize.

They used to have a tank with live lobsters set up in the meat department.
One day, a 1" wide label appeared on it that said:
"FDA WARNING: Lobster spit contains substances that can provoke allergic reactions in
susceptible individuals, Do Not Kiss The Lobsters!"

On the shelf where they stocked the Rogaine for Women there was one that said...
"Do not use this product as a sexual lubricant!"

On the shelf where they stocked string mop-heads...
"Use the feminine hygiene product I use and trust!" with a small picture of Hillary Clinton.

On a Chinese restaurant menu...
"Our foods contain mostly not cat"

During the height of the South Beach Diet craze, a couple of menus at O'Charley's had labels that said...
"Ask your server about our low-carb water"

The labels at the store looked official enough that they lasted at least 6 months or longer.
You can't stick them on products, that's considered "adulteration" and is a federal crime.
Shelves are fair game, though.

Are you over 50? That greatly increases your odds of getting benefits. If you're under 50, chances are slim to none (this is actually my job in the state I live in, I work on the medical portion of the claim, gathering records, setting up exams, obtaining work histories, etc to help SSA and the reviewing docs determine if one qualifies or not). Not that I haven't allowed people under 50, its just a lot harder to do because you basically have to meet or equal a listing (which is not as easy as it sounds). However, once you hit the magic 50, more factors come into play, namely your age, and makes it somewhat easier because we have more options available to grant you on. Not a guarantee but it helps improve your odds.

Yeah, SS disability is really set to benefit kids and older adults.

I am 56 and have both mental and physical issues, so that is interesting to know. My Psych doctor has been encouraging me to apply for a few years, Her comment was "I have patients already on disability who are more functional than you".

OlderGuy: If you know the name of the song, you can probably find it on youtube or rhapsody... and you can send me the mp3 players and I will recover what I can.. usually the batteries are dead, but I have power supplies to fit anything.....

The problem is, it's one of the most covered songs in Black Metal. Seriously. It's Bathory's song "13 Candles" and it is just one of THOSE songs. It's definitely first wave black metal - BUT IT'S GOT GROOVE! That is simply unheard of in black metal. That song is beyond awesome, and at least - AT LEAST - 25 bands that I am aware of just off the top of my head have covered it. I also own over 6,000 CD's (that's just the CD part and I know I'm over 6K by now), the overwhelming majority of which are some genre of metal and some of which are demos and other rarities that you're simply not going to find anywhere, anymore because that's the only thing that was ever released (if I didn't buy it off some band dude in an alley after a show). You can see why I had given up hope.

However!!!, in my frustration and sporadically encyclopaedic knowledge of heavy metal, especially black and death metal awesomeness, which sometimes collide in constructive ways rather than spectacularly destructive ways, I finally remembered I had heard it on a demo for a band that later got kinda-sorta big, went to the metal archives (which is still not complete, but we're getting there) because I knew it would be listed if the band "made it" and narrowed it down. I just finished listening to it for the first time in years! YAY!!!

Oh, the cover version I wanted was by Enochian Crescent and it appeared on their demo "Anno Bastardi" and then again on their "Babalon Patralx de Telocvovim" EP, both of which I have, of course.

I should sell some of this stuff. Some of it is incredibly rare and metal heads are nostalgic things. If I do take Gran's ashes back either with my mom or by myself, I'll take some of the US stuff with me and hit Neseblod records in Oslo for a trade. They're always on the prowl for obscure/hard to get stuff, and since they're in Norway and "the" place to go, I don't think they'll have a problem getting any of the European stuff at all. The US stuff, though....

As far as the MP3 players go - my Kube was dropped in a fountain (oh.), a drunk that wasn't me puked on one and shoved it under the couch where it was discovered a month later by the person who borrowed it (WTF, dude?) and I have no clue what's up with the other two, so maybe you can walk me through some MP3 recovery/discovery some day. I've got hard copies of EVERYTHING on them, I just have to dig and I don't always remember what I loaded on each one, so it would be like a Deja Vu Yule or something. hehehe!

John Buck 41: maynerdkitty: John Buck 41: Lawn is mowed. Damn rain never showed up. Dishes done, groceries shopped, dump run, stuck window (from humidity) finally closed. Can I relax now?

I really need to get out there and mow but I just haven't felt like riding around 5 acres in this weather.
Took this today when I had to run into town. I am going to go out in a little and spray the horses with water before I feed them for the evening. Made Marion has not laid her egg to day. I will give her a pass for now.

107? Mrs. Buck and I are jealous. Luckily the week we had off (7/13-7/21) it was very nice, but since then a fair amount of rain and temps struggling to get past 80.

Sigh. Summer's essentially over. Here, anyway.

I don't mind it so much, it is easier on my arthritis but it is hard on my animals. The hot day this week is supposed to be on Thursday. Then a very slight chance of rain on the weekend. The second thing I am going to buy when I get full time work is a new air conditioner/furnace for the house. I made the dinosaur birthday cake for my sons 30th birthday and the lava melted as fast as put it on the volcano. Had to put that thing in the car and drive 40 min into San Antonio. I feared for the butter cream frosting but I Micky Moused a  cooler to put it in and the whole thing got there in one piece.

I had a Win95 machine I was going to build an arcade cabinet around and run MAME with about 1300 ROMs I have no idea where it is though.  My un-networked office computer that never goes online runs XP pro and I concure, rock solid OS that! My last laptop had 7 it it was fine too.  And this one I'll get used to... it's still early days.

I have system recovery disks for pretty much all makes of computers.. mostly XP.. and those don't need validation... I will have XP systems running for a long time..

sno man: I come back with my drivers license, she gives it the once over and says to me there is no way you are that old, that has to be fake. But rang it though anyway...
For the record it was a pretty good bottle of wine.

I had a new clerk at our local liquor store refuse to sell to me once saying "this isn't you! you stole your big sister's ID!". I was like "WTF, dude? That's TOTALLY me, ask your boss." but I had "cleaned up" and was very conservative looking in the photo. I was in total stealth mode for the DMV, I guess. That was years ago, and that guy still snorts at me when I go in there. Talk about holding a grudge over nothin'.

John Buck 41: Embarrassing for him, sure, but it must make YOU feel pretty good, huh?

Oh, hells, yes! Especially the time we were on line at the market getting nacho supplies and some guy he went to school with saw us. Says "is that your girlfriend? She's really cute!" I started laughing and my son was just barely below a very upset yell "That's my MOM" and then ignored the guy. Man, I was soooo pleased with my "cute" for DAYS.

OlderGuy: Might be a good idea to do that and run updates in the process.. support for XP ceases 4/8/2014... also, if you have a BestBuy around, they have a device by 'Thermaltake' called 'blacX'.. docking station for SATA drives.. use them for backups and storage without needing a case and power supply.... and you can access an unknown drive to find out what,s on it...

I've got a BB within skating/walking distance with a Panera Bread and a Starbucks in between, for sustenance and energy. I'll have to check that blacX thing out. I do have a couple drives around here that I've no idea what OS or anything they were running. I have no idea what it is with me and electronics, but I hate tossing 'em. Oh, and thanks for the info on XP. I'll definitely haul that box in the house again and see what's what with it before I lose all that stuff as well. If there's hope AND good stuff on that drive, I'll take it!

I also have a collection of outdated, non-working MP3 players (no Apple products in the bunch, though) that I can't even get to the music on them. THAT is annoying. Especially when I have this one cover of a Bathory song I've wanted to hear for well over two months now, I know I have it on one of them, and I can't remember the name of the band that did the cover of that song! GAH! Some day, I guess. Maybe. If I'm lucky.

Oh, and here, have a Squeeasaurus! rawr!

I iz back! We had a fun shopping trip and I haz a mildly amusing story to tell! I was being *just me* and looking at the junk jewelry on the rack at the Kmart that was red tag sale AND half off, just in case they had anything I might like to pull apart to add to something else, or maybe just something fun. Two little girlies - probly early teens - were doing the same, and the ladies know how it goes. When you're digging through that much stuff, you tell each other what kind of stuff you would like. So I'm looking for skulls and spikes and snakes and blue and purple and black stones and dark colored or silver butterflies for myself, and ladybugs and froggies and birdies and rainbows and peace signs for the girlies. Some older woman walks by and tells them "time to go" and we exchange our last minute holdings, lady gives me a weird look and they leave. No big, right?

A few minutes later, I head up to the checkout with my prizes and there's that lady and those girls right in front of my mom and they're all chatting. I say "Oh, hi, Mom!" and they all look and the lady looks at me weird again. The girls start giggling. I'm thinking "wtf did I do? Nuthin! That's what!" My mom says "Bug, how old are you going to be in a couple of months?" and she's smiling. So I kind of give her a dirty look, but I tell her, the lady in front of her just looked really embarrassed and said nothing. My mom says, "that's what I thought." *satisfied smile* and one of the girls says "Mom! She's older than you!" and the two girls start giggling again. I felt kinda bad for her, really. Geez. Don't point it out when someone looks kind of like a worn out old shoe. Having teenagers can do that to ya.

Anywhooo... when we got back to the car, mom tells me the lady was going on about this full grown woman who just HAD to be pushing 30, looking for skulls and spikes for HERSELF, like in a "can you believe it?" tone. My mom told her that wasn't so bad, that you're only as old as you felt, and said she knew in her head, just knew, the woman was talking about me. The lady was having none of mom's overly polite "let others be, especially if they like skulls and stabby things, for fun" at all, though. So rather than fess up that she was pretty sure that woman was talking about her daughter, she decided to just ask me when she noticed me coming toward them. So not only did the woman misjudge my age, she made me more than a decade younger than I really am. :-D

I didn't get too terribly much, btw. Can't find a chair I like for my new computer shenanigans area that's also in my price range. Might find a cheapo one and deal for a while.

"Butt Wiggle of Death"!

Yup...and for a bit more kitteh ethology, I've noticed the Kitteh Butt Wiggle of DeathTM DOES tend to be exaggerated when kitties are playing (either with each other or with a toy) versus, say, when actively hunting something For Reals.

And if someone had told me that a Caturday link would be basically Cat Ethology 101--as presented by the Daily Fail, no less!--I'd have probably accused the person of pulling my leg :D  And remarkably, they DID pretty much get Basic Kitteh Ethology right (right down to the "Ohgod I must make you smell like us again!" bits--the kittehs tend to be rather more demonstrative about Claiming GPD For Cat when I've just gotten out of the shower).

The one bit of cat ethology I wish I could figure out (and keep in mind whilst I've had informal self-education in cat ethology, the closest I've had to a formal ethology course was a weekender course involving wolves and other wild canids) is some interesting behaviour one of the local ferals has started.  Our "neighbourhood cat that has a habit of crashing on our porch", Meowy Cat (so named as he tends to serenade the local cats in the neighbourhood at all hours) has started the habit of regularly leaving dead moles on our doorstep.

I've heard of this behaviour with domesticated cats, but Meowy is definitely a feral (no forever home that we can tell, tends to run off if you get TOO close even after giving the Universal Kitty Blinkies Greeting--the Universal Kitty Blinkies Greeting is enough to keep him on the porch if I'm on the carport, and he's figured out we won't run him off with a vengeance, but he usually spooks if one comes closer than about ten feet away).  Would presume he's trying to woo/recruit our two kittehs, but both the kittehs in question are spayed and indoor-only and he'd only be really aware of them when one or the other peeps out the window.  I do appreciate his hard work as an Outdoor Neighbourhood Working Cat i ...

I think he has claimed your porch as a safe 'home'.. and leaving you 'gifts' for allowing him to stay there... if you don't mind him being around, you might consider getting a small doghouse or such so he will have shelter from the elements... you can put an old blanket in there for creature comforts.. also something to sprinkle flea powder on to mitigate flea issues being brought in by passers by..... have an 8 yr old feral here, named Fred.. took two years to be able to touch him.. we are best buddies now.. got him to my vet to fix numerous issues ( not an easy job).. had to take him back due to a UTI... dietary change stopped any reoccurrences..  he is still feral, but I am trusted...

Great Porn Dragon I would vote for the " Here eat this it's good, you belong to us" philosophy. I have had indoor/outdoor cats all my life. All presented trophies, some live and some not so much..once I jokingly told my cat to bring me back something to match my prom dress..live corsage?? He brought me a baby bunny..went rather well with the mauve dress...:) cats are very complex creatures. And they have a great sense of humor..Obviously this cat feels that you are a trustworthy member of the clwder, even if your fur is thin, your tail is missing, and you teeth are awefully small!,

tigerose: Great Porn Dragon your Feral is gifting you with items that he feels are very nommy..as if you were his kitten. For all intents and purposes you have become a junior member of his clowder. Feel very, very honored. Obviously he trusts you, as much as he can. And, I betcha have a bery smooth lawn!!

That's kind of what I'm assuming for the moment too (that it's similar to how it is with domesticated cats bringing you mice they find in the house--except he's a feral Outdoors Working Cat).  Was just wishing I could know a bit more about what's going on in his head, that's all...whether he's being nice to me or to the kittehs he occasionally sees and tries to serenade outside the windows. :3

There's actually still some debate by cat ethologists over prey delivery to humans--it's generally accepted as SOME sort of affection towards humans, but it's still not 100% sure whether it's a sign that the cat feels you're a kitten and Loves You Very Much and brings prey because you suck so badly at hunting (as has been traditionally assumed) or whether it may be a sort of prey-sharing behaviour not necessarily associated with "You Suck As A Hunter" that may be exclusive to domestic cats (and closer to "You're part of the clowder, here, have noms cause we do this for family").

(Feral cat colonies are actually somewhat interesting as far as (general) cat ethology goes.  Most cats including the ancestors of domestic cats (African wild cats, particularly African wild cats living in the Levant and Fertile Crescent) are solitary, and only one extant cat (the lion) has a social structure approaching that of hyaenids or canids (there are some indications that the now-extinct machairodont "sabertoothed" and "dirktoothed" cats may have been similarly social to lions).  Feral cats, interestingly, seem to have a quasi-social structure intermediate to that of solitary cats and communal/social cats like lions and smilodons; the ranges of feral toms tend to be smaller than equivalent ranges in wild cats, toms will sometimes share ranges, and queens in feral cat colonies are known to occasionally engage in "communal queening" where a group of queens will raise each other's kittens in a sort of combined kendle; feral cats are also known to engage in prey-sharing to a larger degree than solitary cats (which DO tend to restrict it to feeding kittens).  In essence, feral cats have retained enough of the genetic changes that happened when cats self-domesticated that they are (even as functionally wild animals) still considerably more social (with other cats) than other cats--and we've really only recently uncovered the fact that feral cats are rather more social than their ancestors upon study of feral cat colonies and "barn cat" colonies comprised of feral and semiferal cats.  It's also partly because of this that there's more of an emphasis on TNR programs.)

Longer term storage do give another meaning to Creative Filing, dunnit?  We marked all the boxes (learnt that early). But my grandmother had so much stuff  it was hard to be specific. I swear, more than 50% of what was in my parents' house was hers.  Would give the colleague my granddad's single bed, but the headboard came apart (a plug from the outside upright that fit into the leg that goes to floor, deteriorated after all these years; needs fixed, + it's almost antique).  Packrat, aye, that's where I get it.
Been too busy today to stay awake much longer. We also best move the mattresses from the trundle bed we are giving her into the little girls' room, where Yakko won't try to climb them all night.  Moving all this proved, as if we required that, that we ain't as young as when we fetched all this stuff here. Also carrying trundle bed up stairs, whereas when it came in, it just glided down stairs.

Invisible Oranges: tigerose: Invisible Oranges I started sewing right after I got married in 1987. My Mom sewed, but did not have the patience to teach me..My first machine only had a forward stitch! Lol! Actually a great machine for heavy fabrics...i have just learned as I tackled one project after another...I really loove costuming though..I frel more creative with it!

Costuming is definitely where my interests lie. I had friends in college that made their own costumes for SCA and renaissance faires. I was super jealous.

I started using my machine by having a friend teach me. I was too scared to figure it out on my own and worried that I'd break something. Might just have to give it a go in the future and start and finish a project. Because I know I'll be darn proud of the first thing I make!

Visit your local Good will. Buy old sheets..think under garments, chemises, etc. and..curtains..where else would you find brocades in that width! Lots of good SCA style patterns out there. My fav is the laced up bodice...over an underdress with long/wide sleeves...awesome!

Still in the middle of reading page 7, but wanted to let you know that you aren't alone, RWDA! I always get a kick out of the Immortal pics because they're so over the top. Their Call of the Wintermoon video and subsequent gifs get me every time.

[25.media.tumblr.com image 500x750]

[25.media.tumblr.com image 299x230]

What cracks me up even more is people who take them seriously. For reals, man? REALLY? Hahahaha! Music - serious business. The rest of it - just a bunch of fun for most of 'em, and Immortal is definitely the granddaddy of that type of cheesy kvlt. That's part of the point so many miss. Dunno why. I think that holds true with any type of music, really - just without the grim and kvlt part.

He's 12 years old. Will take him to the vet today. Hope he will be OK.

Please keep us updated.. we worry about all of our furkids......

We have a 3:30 appointment, and the wife says he's still not drinking water yet. He was fine 2 days ago! Damn!

I see a blood panel and a bolus of fluids in your future. Ugh. I hate when they're sick and there's nothing more specific than "not eating or drinking". It can be pretty spendy just for the cat to bounce back the next day and terrorize the kitchen worse than I would if someone put a chocolate fountain there. (which would not be pretty, btw) If you DON'T do it though, you can miss something important. Too bad they can't talk. The Akvavit household is keeping paws, fingers and toes crossed for you that he's just gotten into something he shouldn't and is going to hork it off or whatever the GI version of walking it off would be.

Actually, I'm kinda glad they can't. I have a feeling cats are terrible drama queens AND gossips.

I missed last Caturday, so got a bunch of pics.  These kittens are around 8 weeks old (born June 1st).  Their names are Cupid((mostly black back), Patches (white patch on her back) and Twitch (Orange/white).  The dog's Sally, she's a twelve year old chihuahua/jack russell mix.  She used to try to nurse the kittens, so they obviously get along fine.  The kittens are starting to climb everything (including our legs when opening cat food.

Twitch developed an eye infection about a week ago, and it spread to one eye in each of the other two.  We've been use Vetricyn eye drops on them , and Patch is back to normal.  The other two are definitely showing signs of improvement.  Enough talk, on to pics.

The Ice Queen: So this has been an up and down week.

First, for those who were here last week, uncle went in for another biopsy. This time, the surgeon (a new one thank you very much) decided to just go for the liver. His reasoning was, if we find the cancer there, it basically doesn't matter about the sites on the esophagus and lung. The good news is, the mass on his liver was a cyst so at least now we have a shot with chemo/radiation where as if it was cancerous, he was going to be sent home on palliative care plan. Not that having cancer on the other two locations are great but at least we have a better change of fighting and winning with those locations. If it was in his liver, we were basically screwed.

Then I catch bronchitis. Serious, its summer, you shouldn't get bronchitis in the summer.

Then I just got off the phone with mom, my grandparents' dog doesn't look like she'll make it through the night. She hasn't wanted to eat for a couple of days and today has done nothing but sleep. Her kitty (yes, she has a cat, its so cute) has been sticking close by and they've been keeping her comfortable. Its just really hard on them because my aunt gave them this dog over 10 years ago and she passed away from cancer back in 2005 so to them, its like losing her all over again.

So now that I'm back at the bottom of the weekly roller coaster, me thinks I'll go but a power ball ticket and see if I can get myself back to the top of the hill :)

Sending hugs to the Queen household.

Exactly. They always name themselves eventually. That's why most of my kittehs were named for something we could see about them (GoGo Beastie has markings that make her look like she's wearing GoGo boots, Moo Moo Kitty, or 'Little Moo', is a white cat with Holstein cow markings), but over time, that name can change. They're usually cool with it, and will answer to BOTH names.

Hugs and thanks to all for the good wishes for Buddy.  He's drinking water again this morning which is a good sign.  Twice today approached the fresh food in his dish and paused for thought before going to lie down again, which is more than he did yesterday.  I bought a yam and some fresh chicken thighs and will try to tempt him with those in a little while.  If no improvement by tonight, we'll get the vet to look him over tomorrow.  In the meantime he's enjoying a good nap under his blankie.

I HAVE DEFEATED THE MORGAN CORNER COMPUTER DESK AND HUTCH!!! *insert insane cackling here*

Well, half way, anyway. I got the fiddly upper part built to go with the lower part, now I just need some muscle to lift and then hold them together while I bolt them in place. I'm quite proud of myself. Usually I am so very bad at such things, then factor in I would just die if I broke a nail and am therefore overly cautious/timid, and I'm beyond proud. I'm STUPID PROUD. I've actually just made myself a bowl of popcorn with cocoa/cayenne/powdered sugar with a touch of salt little concoction as a "thatagirl, fatty!" treat. Which is better than the brownie bites with caramel frosting I was considering making. Now we'll see if I'm as successful putting together the task chair when it gets here.

Now, a kitten being weighed, something I don't like either.

Color me excited! I saw Jack the midnight dog today!
I went out to mail a letter and he was walking back to his house. I called to him and he turned and wagged his tail at me. I went back to the garage tied up Fiona, got a scoop of food and walked back towards him.
He barked loud like a shepherd and went into his old yard. I won't go in the gate so I called to him and he came about halfway down the driveway to me. He wagged his tail and when I knelt down and made kissy sounds at him his tail went into overdrive. He put his ears down, tail up, and I swear he smiled as he tipped his nose in the air to smell me. He looked over his shoulder at his old house as if trying to decide his loyalty to his old owners. They did not deserve this dog.
I have been leaving water out for him and all the animals as the temps are in the hundreds and only in the high seventies at night. He has not been in to eat the food I left out, the horses got it one night, but I think he is scared of the red flickering light on the critter cam. I hadn't seen him in a few days and thought he had crossed the bridge. He has been on his own for months, since his people up and left without him. I think it just a matter of time now, if I can catch him he may have to stay tied on the runner for a while until he learns not to chase kitties or eat my chickens. If I can't make him into a farm dog I will try to find a rescue to take him, he is old and needs to be a pet again. All I would ask of him is to bark when cars come in the yard and not kill the other animals on the farm.
