Sing-Cere Condolences to Deep Thought on Punkin's Bridge trip.  It is worse for us when we must choose to help them along, but better for them.  Punkin'll now frolic gladly in the Elysian Fields, & have lotsa others to show him around & help him get acclimated.  Best of all, he doesn't hurt any more.

You mean having issues with IE is not normal? I haven't used it in years it's such a PITA. I use either Chrome or Opera, both of which are running along fine and dandy right now.

Did ya miss an update or sumfing? You may want to double check at their site if that's the browser you prefer, especially if you don't allow auto-updates (I don't).

FWIW.. I have always used IE.. XP maxed out at IE8.. works imperfectly... Win7 maxes at IE10.. no issues... haven't dealt with WIn8 yet...  have privacy issues with Gurgle.. mention a tech item in an email and an advo appears for that exact item immediately... like my privacy.. hence, no FB, Twit or Gmail... of course, the gov't reads and listens to everything, and that won't change, as the country has no balls anymore...  nuff sed.....

Never had problems in the past. Last update was a week and a half ago (give or take). Not too worried about it; just a temp glitch I'm sure.

Probly. It happens. I'm going to be having a hell of a glitchful time next week. I'm getting a new desktop and it comes with Windows 8. I've never used Win8. In my case the glitch will be alllll me.

This is Mittens. When he was 13 he became lethargic and wouldn't eat. We didn't have much money at the time, so no vet visit. My husband took care of him by offering him tidbits and water. The last night he sipped a little water and left us. I swore at the time that I'd never let an animal suffer like that. I realize how hard it is to say goodby having done it. My condolences to you Deep Contact.

Wow.  You all have been busy this morning!  Me too, actually.  I mowed my parents' lawn as they are visiting family in NY.  I wish I would have woken up my neighbors behind me.  They were having a party until at least midnight with screaming children jumping on trampolines, music, barking dogs, etc.  Yes, I'm mean like that.

Love the osprey pics, sno man and John Buck!  Makes me miss living on the coast!!

YEAAAAA!

The desktop is one of the clicky tiles, what do they call them? everyone else calls them tiles... and you can work in the desktop environment, you have to do the extra step to get there...
It doesn't help that the laptop has a fancier touch pad, that it you even get close to the edge the new GUI flies up "Yes Master?" "no, not now, go away... I'll let you know when you're needed"... (haven't yet btw.)
Also not a fan that once you open an app there is no little x in the corner to close it, you either let it run in the background or you have to ctrl, alt, del and then pick it off the list of stuff running and tell it to close.

I iz back! We had a fun shopping trip and I haz a mildly amusing story to tell! I was being *just me* and looking at the junk jewelry on the rack at the Kmart that was red tag sale AND half off, just in case they had anything I might like to pull apart to add to something else, or maybe just something fun. Two little girlies - probly early teens - were doing the same, and the ladies know how it goes. When you're digging through that much stuff, you tell each other what kind of stuff you would like. So I'm looking for skulls and spikes and snakes and blue and purple and black stones and dark colored or silver butterflies for myself, and ladybugs and froggies and birdies and rainbows and peace signs for the girlies. Some older woman walks by and tells them "time to go" and we exchange our last minute holdings, lady gives me a weird look and they leave. No big, right?

A few minutes later, I head up to the checkout with my prizes and there's that lady and those girls right in front of my mom and they're all chatting. I say "Oh, hi, Mom!" and they all look and the lady looks at me weird again. The girls start giggling. I'm thinking "wtf did I do? Nuthin! That's what!" My mom says "Bug, how old are you going to be in a couple of months?" and she's smiling. So I kind of give her a dirty look, but I tell her, the lady in front of her just looked really embarrassed and said nothing. My mom says, "that's what I thought." *satisfied smile* and one of the girls says "Mom! She's older than you!" and the two girls start giggling again. I felt kinda bad for her, really. Geez. Don't point it out when someone looks kind of like a worn out old shoe. Having teenagers can do that to ya.

Anywhooo... when we got back to the car, mom tells me the lady was going on about this full grown woman who just HAD to be pushing 30, looking for skulls and spikes for HERSELF, like in a "can you believe it?" tone. My mom told her that wasn't so bad, that you're only as old as you felt, and said she knew in her head, just knew, the woman was talking about me. The lady was having none of mom's overly polite "let others be, especially if they like skulls and stabby things, for fun" at all, though. So rather than fess up that she was pretty sure that woman was talking about her daughter, she decided to just ask me when she noticed me coming toward them. So not only did the woman misjudge my age, she made me more than a decade younger than I really am. :-D

I didn't get too terribly much, btw. Can't find a chair I like for my new computer shenanigans area that's also in my price range. Might find a cheapo one and deal for a while.

I'm probably making it out to sound worse than it is, IT IS Different, but you can get it working pretty much like pre 8 Windows fairly quickly.  And it sounds like the 8.1 release will address some of my issues.  If you have some experience with a smart phone or a tablet it would help, but isn't necessary.  Basically they are trying to make windows idiot proof.  The trouble is all the idiots (like myself) that learned every Windows OS since 3.1 have been left twisting in the wind for this truly dumbed down interface, that while simple, is different enough to leave you lost half the time looking for a new way to do some something you could do in your sleep in an older version.
And if that wasn't enough, that 16bit solitaire that's been around since Win95 is gone(!)
I also have a side beef about the latest PaintShop Pro X5... I had an antique version on the old laptop and it's a pretty step learning curve for this new one.  And the new laptop has a few of the 'extra' keys in different spots so sometimes I try to one thing and other random things happen...
Just too many changes all at once I think...

funny shopping story btw! :^)

It will be here next week. Already shipped. I just max out every bit of ram on my favorite lappie with all of my shenanigans and hopping between here, shopping, surfing and games. I know it's the games eating most of it, even though I'm not a really heavy gamer (unless it's old Nintendo stuff, of course). When I pondered just upgrading Lenore (this one), I decided I'd rather just get an inexpensive desktop to replace my old one I almost never use (which is still running WinME, btw), already know Lenovo makes a pretty solid product, even on the low end of the $$$ scale (Lenore, my favorite lappie, is a Lenovo Ideapad and has never given me grief even after being repeatedly dropped, mangled, victimized by a very large, flying cat, assorted food item particulate matter, etc), so I picked one up on sale for 350 bucks with twice the RAM, twice the power and a full Tb of hard drive space I'll never use. Sadly, it also came with the much-maligned Win8. If the upgrade is free for those of us who bought a computer with it pre-installed, I will immediately do that when it is available.

I'll probably scream in frustration at first, but once I figure out how to get my "stuff" where I want it (I like the start button at the top of the screen rather than the bottom, etc), I can probably muddle through. I am a pretty determined idiot about some things, though. :-D

sno man: And if that wasn't enough, that 16bit solitaire that's been around since Win95 is gone(!)

WTF??? Well! It's a DAMN GOOD THING I bought a couple of solitaire games from Big Fish games then, isn't it? Still, that's kind of sad. It's like my earlier adulthood is being taken from me by an evil corporate entity trying to force me to no longer have fun on my own terms. I do not like that.

I do have an old XP out in the garage. Forget why it's out there. Some day, I may power it up and find out! I'm sure it still powers up (or did when it landed out there) or I would have pulled the drive and would be staring at it in a shoebox or something instead of occasionally glancing at a perfectly good ATX case with a "got metal?" bumper sticker on the side wondering what treasures lie within - and if I can still get to them or not.

I had a Win95 machine I was going to build an arcade cabinet around and run MAME with about 1300 ROMs I have no idea where it is though.  My un-networked office computer that never goes online runs XP pro and I concure, rock solid OS that! The GoGo Beastie knocks on my door so loud and hard it sounds like there's a grown man out there. I've actually yelled before "WHAT???" thinking it was a person, not my cat. She also likes opening and closing (hard!) the cupboard just outside my door, just so I'll come out to see what she's getting into. Then she can try and trip me and breathe her fish breath right in my face and say "mew?" before running up the stairs.

A half dead mouse would be too much work, though. It might get mad or sumfing.

Damn good thing I love that cat. She is NAUGHTY.

The closest thing I have to that shopping was when we in FL 2 years ago and one day I was out getting a bottle of wine for dinner, and got carded.  I was dumbstruck, I REALLY don't look 21 haven't in at least 20 years (the salt & pepper goatee is more salt than pepper). To the point that I'd left my wallet in the car and had just gone in with cash.  Well it turns out in FL the are supposed to card everyone however old. And the one time I actually leave my wallet in the car... Any way the cashier was insistent, made me go and get my wallet, I come back with my drivers license, she gives it the once over and says to me there is no way you are that old, that has to be fake. But rang it though anyway...
For the record it was a pretty good bottle of wine.

Lawn is mowed. Damn rain never showed up. Dishes done, groceries shopped, dump run, stuck window (from humidity) finally closed. Can I relax now?

sno man: Real Women Drink Akvavit: Not the first time that kinda thing has happened to me, but the first time my mother's been in the mix, so to speak. Most of the time it's a Nice Time thing instead of a judgmental "act the age I feel you should act and go buy some nice fake old ladee pearls or sumfing" thing though.

It's actually funnier when my son is with me. I've been mistaken for a girlfriend or sister more than once and he's horrified each time. He won't go out with me much anymore.

Lol! When we were cleaning out grandma and Grandpa's trailer home(winter palace)I got carded too. I thought it was hysterical! Might have been rum..that's the only way we got through the ordeal...clothes that were patched on patches..empty foil dinner trays, dead bulbs..plus checking everthing to be sure nothing valuable got tossed..jewelry in an egg carton...and hoarded meds..ye gods and little fish hooks! And yhen tne recipes which all had.." Top with stale chips"...urk!

OlderGuy: he is missing some good chances to mess with people's minds, which is not difficult these days

No kidding! My son lacks a sense of humor. He gets a bee in his bonnet over things he shouldn't. He says "it's no one's business" and I agree with that. However, there is nothing wrong with horrifying the crap outta someone in a non-harmful manner, for the lulz.

I have never been to Busch Gardens, but have heard of it before. When I lived in SoCal, I used to go to Disneyland every chance I got. I was just there a year ago this spring, first time in ages, and was shocked at how much it had changed, but I still had a BLAST. My mom took a "pass" on Splash Mountain - which I love - and when I come off of it, she's chatting with some other lady waiting for her much younger kids and I say "Mom! I got a soaker just on my ass!" and some teen kid behind me yells "Mom!" to the other lady "So did I!". He was in the log right in front of me. That kid had a great terrified laughing shriek, btw. Drowned mine out, which is saying a lot.

I wanna go back, but more around Halloween and hit Knott's Scary Farm! Shoot, anywhere in SoCal or any other large US city is awesome around Halloween.

Real Women Drink Akvavit: OlderGuy: I have an older system that has Win95 and Win98SE on it.. don't go online with it, but it,s loaded with vintage software and fun to play with.. and I have Win3.1 and 5.1 OS disk sets .. got a 286 in good condition that I may load with them...also dual boot...  and Win2000Pro disk set...  you never know when that stuff will come in handy....  still think that XP was the best OS ever....

Might be a good idea to do that and run updates in the process.. support for XP ceases 4/8/2014... also, if you have a BestBuy around, they have a device by 'Thermaltake' called 'blacX'.. docking station for SATA drives.. use them for backups and storage without needing a case and power supply.... and you can access an unknown drive to find out what,s on it...

Having a very quiet Sunday at The House of IFP.
Slept in as much as I was allowed to do so before getting the usual feline Wakeup by all four shiats.
Dinky was content to lay there and keep me warm.
Went to WNF (local health food store) to get almond milk and Dinky was allowed to go inside the store. He kept an eye on me while the owner held him.
"Don't even THINK about leaving my arse here, woman. I OWN YOU."
We came home and now he's napping on the couch with Sadie.

Eli the Bitey has had his dinner and is outside once again. He kept me company while I was gardening. He is good company! He does not like tne mower, thank cieling cat. So he hides in the garden, or on the other side of teh house. Otherwise he is usually lounging around, supervising my work!
