A little kitteh always helps. I just have to keep going with the flow, taking the good with the bad and rolling with the punches....

ozarkmatt: Here is how my stupid cat seriously screwed herself up. She had a habit of hanging out on the second floor railing. Every once in a while, she would fall to a deep enough sleep where she would fall off the balcony, heading to the hardwood floor some 15' below - with a iron bench to one side.

Usually she would catch herself on the second story carpet on her way down and scramble like hell to get back up. Sometimes she wouldn't and I would hear a loud THUMP - usually late at night, early in the morn.

Both cats did it, I sprayed the "Kitty be gone" stuff on the rail, it didn't matter, they were up top and could see the full living room plus the front door; prime real estate for a cat.

Last Saturday night, I was scratching Whiney Lou along her back and came across a HUGE bump at he base of her tail. I couldn't figure it out, but slowly noticed she wasn't shaking her tail at all.

I don't want to post this in line in case we have some squemish ones out there, but the cat was able to completely dislocate her tail. Completely. She has pain feeling in her tail, but has no ability to make it move. The vet says the nerves may come back enough to be able to move it, for now she has learned to stand up and walk in a circle to get her tail next to her mouth for grooming.

Stupid Kitty. I put a two inch metal angle up there to make it unsuitable to sit on, she still goes up and sits on it. However, it seems to be uncomfortable enough so she cant fall to a deep enough sleep to fall off again.

Whatever.

If you want to see the X-Ray, click here. You can see the complete vertical dislocation, nothing horizontal. Plus you can see the nerve pipe? Is that what it is called? That was never severed, nor were there any fractures.

Her tail hangs like a flag on a still day. She still climbs up on that railing.

Never underestimate a cat's arrogance.

She never showed pain. Ever. That is the trippiest part of it. Even now, when I grab hold of the very end of tail to make her move it out ...

That is remarkable!  Poor kitty!  Did the vet try to pull gently on the tail to re-align the bones?  (Yes, I am a Chiropractor and that is just how my brain works)  Nerves regenerate very slowly, but if there is going to be improvement I would guess that you should see something change within a few months.

Sickapie: spinach gunk: Sickapie: Spinach Gunk, I thought I read that you were feeling sad. If you posted somewhere why, and I missed it, I'm sorry. I hope that happiness finds you well.

Thanks, Sickapie.  My little Buddy's condition is slowly deteriorating.  He was doing a bit better last week but is not so good right now.  He's gone through days like this and bounced back nicely, but each time the period of good days in between gets shorter.  I don't want to think about You Know What just yet, but it's hard not to.  :(  I love him so much and it's so hard to see him not feeling very good.  This on top of my regular everyday anxiety and depression.  I'm allowing myself to smoke up to one cigarette a day to take the edge off.  So glad Caturday is here though.  Good laughs and good friends are immeasurable sources of comfort.

How is Little Pie doing these days, by the way?  Hope the little sweetie's OK.

Aw.  Sorry to hear.  I completely understand about the You Know What.  And so does everyone here.  We're here for you.  It's so hard to see our little furbabies go through that.  Please give him gentle skritches from the Pie house and buttsniffs from Olivia.  {{{hugs}}}

Little Pie has had an amazing turn around.  Thanks for asking!  She is on meds and I credit that and her willingness to take it in the first place for it.  She is eating a ton of solid foods now.  We are still working on veggies and some more healthier foods, but I think we can accomplish that because it's all texture with her.  This is all in the past 2 weeks.  So proud of her!  Yay!

That is such wonderful news!  Good girl!  What textures does she like and which ones does she hate?

Sickapie: Good evening, everybuddee!

Was absent last week, but was able to catch up a little on some of the bad news.

DDA, so sorry to hear about Kay.  Your tribute was lovely.  I hope that you're feeling a little better.  This is a good place to be when you need someone to talk to and listen.  {{{hugs}}}

The Ice Queen, I'm sorry about your uncle's diagnosis.  Hopefully, all goes well (and you start to feel better, too!)

Spinach Gunk, I thought I read that you were feeling sad.  If you posted somewhere why, and I missed it, I'm sorry.  I hope that happiness finds you well.

And Bathia Mapes, thank you AGAIN for the month of TF!!

Anyone else that I've missed who needs a hug, here's a giant one {{{{{{HUG}}}}}}!!

ANd now to catch up on the thread....bbl

Thank you.  I'm healing.  Except that, much like The Ice Queen, I seem to have contracted a summer crud.  It has not been a pleasant week.

That is actually very typical for a cat. In the wild, it would be a huge disadvantage from a survival standpoint to show any sort of injury or illness. Remember, they're predators. What do those sorts of predators like to go for first? The sick, old, injured and young. So they guard their own young and tend to "walk it off" when injured and tend not show they're injured or ill. It's such a strong trait, even our spoiled house cats tend to "suddenly" become ill, when actually, they'd probably been ill for a few days and it just takes a while for it to get so bad that they can't hide it as well. Knowing that about cats, it doesn't surprise me at all that your silly girl acts like it's no big thing and you're, like, totally overreacting, moooom!

Maybe one of the other caturdayians will know of something else you can put up there to keep her off the rail. Maybe you can provide an alternate, but just as spectacularly awesome thing for her to chill out on? Like a large cat tree or shelf or?

I'm glad she's ok. You're probably in worse shape inside than your poor little beastie is! Cats really do push it....

Well, we returned from our outing to find that not only had Buddy kept down his yams, but he had cleaned off the plate of gooshyfood I'd put out for him earlier that afternoon (even though it getting pretty dried-out by then)!  Such a relief to see after sadly flushing meal after meal down the toilet for the last two days!

So, he got two different brands of gooshyfood and some more yams for dinner.  He ate all the yams but only one of the kinds of gooshyfood, which is not a bad thing since now we know what to avoid for the time being.  Then when we had our dinner, he went cuckoo begging for bits of Mr. Gunk's chicken yakisoba!  Didn't even notice when we hid his pills inside a chunk of chicken, lol!  Later he enjoyed a good longish walk even though it was a little rainy out.  Yay!

Thank you all again for your emotional support as I freak out -- how many other people would share the joy of a dog wanting to eat?  And the worry when he doesn't?  You are all such dear, kind souls, with great big hearts.  I'm sure Buddy would lick each and every one of you if he could.  Hell, so would I.  :)

ozarkmatt so sorry to hear about your cats tail. I am actually surprised it did not need surgical removal. I wonder why the vet did not try to manipulate it back into place? Fear of damaging the spinal cord? I hope your kitteh recovers. I wonder if she would sleep on a cat tower, placed at the same level as the rail?

This is a close up of previously aforementioned cat.

Okay, so I've accidentally got a new cat. It's a kitten. I have no idea what to name it. I've never seen a cat/kitten this affectionate. He wants to be held constantly, purrs like a dozen locomotives, and runs around my legs back and forth.

I've been a little worried by Emma's initial reaction, but in all honesty, she doesn't seem to have a problem with him. He did hiss at her a few times the first 24 hours, but she never once hissed back, turned her ears, puffed her tail. Whenever she approached, she was very cautious. Not stalking, but curious, keeping an eye out. If I didn't know better, I'd swear she's trying to be a mother to him, or an older sister. She's been curious, friendly, even playful. Initially though, she was not happy with me. Not jealous per se, but she was angry. She wouldn't let me pet her, she wouldn't sleep in the bed with me, and she wouldn't get up on her perch by my desk. Well, she's better now, and so's he.

I kept them in separate bedrooms for the first few days, but they'd been getting along so well that I decided to change it last night, and they both slept in the bed with me. No issues other than playfully batting right at the start, then settled down.

I've got two litter boxes, though that doesn't seem to matter. They use both interchangeably. He shiats a ton. Not is in often, but just huge shiats. Like a couple of golf balls. And they're definitely his, because Emma doesn't poop like that. Which is shameful that I can recognize that. I've got two food dishes and water dishes too, but I'm not sure that makes a difference either. One's got kitten and other cat food, but meh.

I'm doing everything I can to give Emma and No Name equal attention, which seems to be working. However, he likes to interrupt me giving Emma attention and take from her. I'm not responding to it at the moment, I don't know if this is the right thing to do. Only other behavior that's undesirable is that he has been getting up on my desk. With Emma, she knows she can do this, because she can stay on one side. I even have a small bed for her under the lamp. She never goes to the other side. No Name though, he's curious and wants to see it all. When he goes to that side, I take him off the desk and put him down. I don't mind if he gets up on the desk, I just want him on one side of it. And Emma might have something to say about that as well.

So, there it is. I've got two cats now. One beautiful and independent, wanting to be petted and loved on her own terms. One orange and ornery, craving attention and constantly curious. And I need a name for him. His name from the center was Charlie, but I don't really care for that. I've thought about Steve, Hobbes, Kevin, but nothing really seems to fit. Steve does the best, but I don't know. Any ideas on what to call him?

Oh, and his tail is twice as long as Emma's. It's a fairly long tail. Does that mean he's going to be a big cat?

Exactly. They always name themselves eventually. That's why most of my kittehs were named for something we could see about them (GoGo Beastie has markings that make her look like she's wearing GoGo boots, Moo Moo Kitty, or 'Little Moo', is a white cat with Holstein cow markings), but over time, that name can change. They're usually cool with it, and will answer to BOTH names.
