So this has been an up and down week.

First, for those who were here last week, uncle went in for another biopsy. This time, the surgeon (a new one thank you very much) decided to just go for the liver. His reasoning was, if we find the cancer there, it basically doesn't matter about the sites on the esophagus and lung. The good news is, the mass on his liver was a cyst so at least now we have a shot with chemo/radiation where as if it was cancerous, he was going to be sent home on palliative care plan. Not that having cancer on the other two locations are great but at least we have a better change of fighting and winning with those locations. If it was in his liver, we were basically screwed.

Then I catch bronchitis. Serious, its summer, you shouldn't get bronchitis in the summer.

Then I just got off the phone with mom, my grandparents' dog doesn't look like she'll make it through the night. She hasn't wanted to eat for a couple of days and today has done nothing but sleep. Her kitty (yes, she has a cat, its so cute) has been sticking close by and they've been keeping her comfortable. Its just really hard on them because my aunt gave them this dog over 10 years ago and she passed away from cancer back in 2005 so to them, its like losing her all over again.

So now that I'm back at the bottom of the weekly roller coaster, me thinks I'll go but a power ball ticket and see if I can get myself back to the top of the hill :)

You have certaintly had a rough week my dear. (Hug). Glad Uncle had a good Doc this time. Sounds like someone with a brain and using it! Keep him! Sad about teh goggie, but it looks like all that can do done is being..not much one can do, much as we would like. Remind them that the Aunt would understand, and thank them for the many urs of love they gave to "her" dog. Obviously she knew they would. How many numbers in teh powerball? Try 697352.. Dunno w hy, numbers just popped into my empty noggin! :)

I can see the water table level right now.... having to cut the grass every weekend lately...  made a slideshow with the 'tennis match' last week... very impressive..  showed my neighbor his new paint job... very amused.. and said that the 'surplus' paint he buys is primer ... the grey finish paint is Duron latex... covers the green nicely.. would probably have to go at least three coats on the purple.....

Good to hear about your Uncle's liver, hopefully the rest can be managed.
You're right about bronchitis, it's a pain winter or summer, with luck you should be over it soon.
Sorry to hear about your grandparents' dog, but they are being a comfort for her at the end, just try to be a shoulder to lean on when it's over.

I just watched the linked video and I'm wondering about the head rubbing behavior that they described. Yes, I know it deposits a cat's scents on you but Snuffycat has a different use for it. Besides the scent depositing it's a "hey you, pay attention and follow me" behavior. It really comes into play if I'm sitting at the kitchen table and he wants to go out. He'll head butt my leg going away from the door then turn around and hit me again headed towards the door. If I ignore him he'll do it again and again until stupid me realizes he wants something. That something is about 95%
"let me out dad", occasionally it's "follow me to the bedroom and scratch me until I decide to bite you". I'd rather have Snuffers get my attention this way, Desi does it by reaching up and slowly sinking his claws into my leg!

Has the new electrical service installed this week. I thought I had corrected all the mickey mouse wiring except the hokey wanna-be 4 way switch that runs the rear spots. Never did work right and I just never got around figuring out what was up with it. Well, it turns out it was dual fed, and when they wired the new panel (adhering to code) each feed ended up on a different phase. It was quite a light show when they turned on the power. They got it straightened out but one of the switches is now offline, and of course it's the only one we really use.

I'm going to rough in the wire they need in order to correct it this weekend. It'll save me the cost of about 3 hours labor @ $85/hr.
Besides that everything else is now good.

Good evening, everybuddee!

Was absent last week, but was able to catch up a little on some of the bad news.

DDA, so sorry to hear about Kay.  Your tribute was lovely.  I hope that you're feeling a little better.  This is a good place to be when you need someone to talk to and listen.  {{{hugs}}}

The Ice Queen, I'm sorry about your uncle's diagnosis.  Hopefully, all goes well (and you start to feel better, too!)

Spinach Gunk, I thought I read that you were feeling sad.  If you posted somewhere why, and I missed it, I'm sorry.  I hope that happiness finds you well.

And Bathia Mapes, thank you AGAIN for the month of TF!!

Anyone else that I've missed who needs a hug, here's a giant one {{{{{{HUG}}}}}}!!

ANd now to catch up on the thread....bbl

Little Miss Andi gets to go in for spaying on Sunday since she finally got over the 2# mark. She's going to go insane from having to be chill for a few days but even as cute as she is, don't need any little Andis running around.

Actually, I think she's in the Meerkat stage or something, you now, tail straight up and bouncing around instead of running....

Yep, he's back! Dinky/Pedro/Damnit shat one too many times by the side of Dad's bed. He's banned. I told Dad that Dinky could stay with me during weekends and the nighttime, but he has to be at their house do he can play with Mom's dog during the day. He said that was fine.

Finally drove past the 3 osprey nests on 5 hydro poles I mentioned last week, with my camera in the car (!)
I could only get two of the nests in the same shot, there are some trees and a slight hill that conspire to obscure the third nest...

The closer nest was occupied when I pulled over, a bit away.  I tried to get closer to get a better shot and the bird took off..  I never did get a really clean shot, but did get these...

The Ice Queen: So this has been an up and down week.

That's good news about your uncle, hopefully his new and better doctor can help him beat this.

So sorry to hear about your grandparents' dog.  :(  Hugs to everyone involved there.

Sorry to hear about you being sick too.  Being sick in the summertime sucks, having bronchitis any time sucks even more!   Get lots of rest and take care of yourself so you're better soon.  Hopefully Caturday brings you some much-deserved comfort and cheer.

yobbery: Has the new electrical service installed this week.

Semi sad day today...  Lil' Bit is back at the shelter - he was neutered today, and will be out on the floor tomorrow to look for the purrrfect person to take home.  Hopefully he won't be there long.  We are really gonna miss the little turd - it's far too quiet here tonight!

lh5.googleusercontent.com
I'm thinking this particular display of licking behavior had more to do with washing up after dinner than stress!

The tummy rubs mentioned in the video?  Dinah and Theo don't want their tummies messed with (though that doesn't stop me - especially with Theo because he's got such a cute speckled tummy!) but Zara loves tummy rubs and will actually 'help' my hand to her tummy for scritches - she's adorable, but odd...

Sickapie: Spinach Gunk, I thought I read that you were feeling sad. If you posted somewhere why, and I missed it, I'm sorry. I hope that happiness finds you well.

Thanks, Sickapie.  My little Buddy's condition is slowly deteriorating.  He was doing a bit better last week but is not so good right now.  He's gone through days like this and bounced back nicely, but each time the period of good days in between gets shorter.  I don't want to think about You Know What just yet, but it's hard not to.  :(  I love him so much and it's so hard to see him not feeling very good.  This on top of my regular everyday anxiety and depression.  I'm allowing myself to smoke up to one cigarette a day to take the edge off.  So glad Caturday is here though.  Good laughs and good friends are immeasurable sources of comfort.

LOL...that's not mine...it's a redneck repair pic I found on the internet. (good lord you'll never find anything like that in my home)

They put in two Eaton (Cutler-Hammer) panels. I stayed with the 100A service because (a). I didn't have the funds to upgrade right now and (b). I see no reason to upgrade. With everything....appliances, lighting...etc. going high efficiency I feel that 100A is plenty.

Good Furday morning, Caturdayians! I am in the middle of a building of cheap furniture project for my lair, so I will be a bit scarce for the day. When I am done, it should look like this:
ak1.ostkcdn.com
But with my stuff all over it, of course. I've got the bottom part done, but the top is going to be hard. It's been so difficult and there are so many pieces, I actually had to sleep on the couch last night as it's all organized and stacked neatly on my bed and I didn't want to disturb what passes for a system I've got going on with it right now. I'm really, really bad at this kind of thing, so everyone wish me luck!

I will catch up on the thread later, but wanted to say "Hooray!" for Ice Queen uncle's liver. Glad he's got a shot. I also wanted to leave this picture right here
www.ryot.org
That is a "quokka". They always look happy like that. They're indigenous to Australia (mostly the islands off the coast, I think) and I just learned of them yesterday. Apparently they have little fear of humans and so photo opportunities come easy. One Aussie was saying (typing) that she'd only heard of someone being bitten once, and that was because the person picked it up and tried to cuddle it. She wanted to remind us all that they are wild animals (I bet some people keep them as pets, though, but it was an older post so I couldn't ask and expect a reply). Now I want to travel to Australia. I guess having an entire continent full of things that are trying to kill you is balanced out by having the cutest, happiest looking critter EVER just roaming about, wherever they please.

Another quokka, smiling in its sleep:
t2.gstatic.com
Anyway, everyone have a great day! Hugs to those who need them, ear skritches to all the critters, high fives to those who've earned them and I'll catch up with you guize when I can!

Sorry to hear that Buddy lost his appetite, with luck you can get him to eat a little something. Silly as it sounds have you tried some chicken soup. That used to work for my dog Baby.

Thanks, JB.

He's perked up slightly this evening but we still can't get him to eat anything.  :(

Will keep trying though.

Color me excited! I saw Jack the midnight dog today!
I went out to mail a letter and he was walking back to his house. I called to him and he turned and wagged his tail at me. I went back to the garage tied up Fiona, got a scoop of food and walked back towards him.
He barked loud like a shepherd and went into his old yard. I won't go in the gate so I called to him and he came about halfway down the driveway to me. He wagged his tail and when I knelt down and made kissy sounds at him his tail went into overdrive. He put his ears down, tail up, and I swear he smiled as he tipped his nose in the air to smell me. He looked over his shoulder at his old house as if trying to decide his loyalty to his old owners. They did not deserve this dog.
I have been leaving water out for him and all the animals as the temps are in the hundreds and only in the high seventies at night. He has not been in to eat the food I left out, the horses got it one night, but I think he is scared of the red flickering light on the critter cam. I hadn't seen him in a few days and thought he had crossed the bridge. He has been on his own for months, since his people up and left without him. I think it just a matter of time now, if I can catch him he may have to stay tied on the runner for a while until he learns not to chase kitties or eat my chickens. If I can't make him into a farm dog I will try to find a rescue to take him, he is old and needs to be a pet again. All I would ask of him is to bark when cars come in the yard and not kill the other animals on the farm.

We did some research before we got them.  You're right, they do well in pairs; they're brothers.  Marshmallow did bite Little Pie a couple of times, but we think it's because he thought she had a treat and it was when we first brought them home.  He's a little more aggressive then his more shy brother.  We use the natural, unscented bedding.  Plus, I read that we need to use bottled water instead of tap water, and if bottled water can't be used, leave tap water out for 24 hours then use it to get all the chemicals out.

They are super cute when they "talk" to each other!  I'll be in Little Pie's room making her bed and listen to them chatter away.

I HAVE DEFEATED THE MORGAN CORNER COMPUTER DESK AND HUTCH!!! *insert insane cackling here*

Well, half way, anyway. I got the fiddly upper part built to go with the lower part, now I just need some muscle to lift and then hold them together while I bolt them in place. I'm quite proud of myself. Usually I am so very bad at such things, then factor in I would just die if I broke a nail and am therefore overly cautious/timid, and I'm beyond proud. I'm STUPID PROUD. I've actually just made myself a bowl of popcorn with cocoa/cayenne/powdered sugar with a touch of salt little concoction as a "thatagirl, fatty!" treat. Which is better than the brownie bites with caramel frosting I was considering making. Now we'll see if I'm as successful putting together the task chair when it gets here.

Now, a kitten being weighed, something I don't like either.

Sickapie: spinach gunk: Sickapie: Spinach Gunk, I thought I read that you were feeling sad.

How is Little Pie doing these days, by the way?  Hope the little sweetie's OK.

Aw.  Sorry to hear.  I completely understand about the You Know What.  And so does everyone here.  We're here for you.  It's so hard to see our little furbabies go through that.  Please give him gentle skritches from the Pie house and buttsniffs from Olivia.  {{{hugs}}}

Little Pie has had an amazing turn around.  Thanks for asking!  She is on meds and I credit that and her willingness to take it in the first place for it.  She is eating a ton of solid foods now.  We are still working on veggies and some more healthier foods, but I think we can accomplish that because it's all texture with her.  This is all in the past 2 weeks.  So proud of her!  Yay!

YAY for the Pie Family! Such good news for you all! I can't imagine how you worried about her during all this time.

The Ice Queen: Little Miss Andi gets to go in for spaying on Sunday since she finally got over the 2# mark. She's going to go insane from having to be chill for a few days but even as cute as she is, don't need any little Andis running around.

Actually, I think she's in the Meerkat stage or something, you now, tail straight up and bouncing around instead of running....

well, thank goodness there are no more Andi's running around!!!!

good luck with your spay!

has been a craptastic week

- coworkers are upset that I have the word 'sr' in front of my title.  I have a freaking MBA and 30 years of telephony experience.  you have a high school diploma.  HR is looking at the new titles.  goody  I doubt it will go my way as the new company (we were acquired) layed me off 6 years ago.  F that.

- coworker who had a fit about my title got a call from her husband's work.  He was on the ground and could not move or feel legs.  He had surgery today to relieve the herniated disk.  she is freaked and scared and it is understandable.  I worry too.  I doubt it will change the 'tude towards me.

- I covered for the coworker who thinks a high school diploma trumps a college education.  F that! (see above comment)

- I'm tired.  I'm cranky (thus the name) and everyone drove like morons tonight when I came home.  A green light means you DRIVE, you do not coast, stop or any of that.  Drive that damned car.

I feel better now.

Right now I am very disappointed with our two cats. There is only one place they are not allowed, the kitchen table. They are allowed on the kitchen counter to "help" with food prep. For the first time in months, I got some take-out chicken (Church's, 14 pieces for $9 on special) rather than cook. Not only did they keep jumping up on the table (and being removed) the garbage can was knocked over during the night and the bones removed.

Several years ago, for a early grade school project where you had to do a "scientific" study, the kid and I decided to do a taste test of fast food chicken.
The cats were included in this. In order of preference (the kid and the cats agreed on this) Breading/coating was removed and dishes with small morsels put on the floor.

1) Popeyes spicy
2) Popeyes mild
3) church's mild
4) church's spicy
5) long John silver's chicken planks
6) local supermarket deli fried
7) banquet frozen chicken
8) deli rotisserie chicken (when I asked for one fried breast they were laughing so hard they gave me a chicken that had not sold that morning and was going to be used for chicken salad)
9) KFC. This really hurt my Kentucky born & bred wife. Her comfort food
The kid wanted mcnuggets included, but I said that it was too mean to the cats.

Whenever we put down several bowls, the popeye's went first. No doubt about it. Everything the same (amount, room temp, etc).

Hugs and thanks to all for the good wishes for Buddy.  He's drinking water again this morning which is a good sign.  Twice today approached the fresh food in his dish and paused for thought before going to lie down again, which is more than he did yesterday.  I bought a yam and some fresh chicken thighs and will try to tempt him with those in a little while.  If no improvement by tonight, we'll get the vet to look him over tomorrow.  In the meantime he's enjoying a good nap under his blankie.

I_fling_poo, surely the reusable bags will launder with enuf disinfectant to remove the dog fluid?  Enuf soap, & bleach if needed, if that doesn't wreck the fabric. Was only a little surprised that Plumbicon didn't bring home HarmonyLodge laundry (white washcloths & small towels) from his numerous recent expeditions there.
tigerose, costumes are lurvly & handsome.  FangQ for fetching, FangQ lajimi for needed rotation. On a preceding page, am too lazy to go back & look.  But methinx, haven't you been able to caption?  If you've the wherewithal for that, under Image there ought be a Rotate item. New scanner that actually worx & doesn't bollix scans as old one did, at times requires scanned item to be set in so rotation will be needed.  Not difficult if you have it, quite frustrating if you don't.

Sickapie: Little Pie has had an amazing turn around. Yay!

Sooo glad to hear she's doing so much better!  Bravo to you, the doctor, and especially to the Little Pie herself!  :)

CrankyAndi: has been a craptastic week

Are you sure you don't live in Columbus, that sounds like my drive every damn day this week!

Got a call from my mom this afternoon, my grandparents' dog passed away. Grandpa went up and buried her by the pond which makes me want to pound my uncles in the head (grandpa is 80 and has 1 arm, shouldn't have been doing that on his own but then again, I did the same thing for a cat, on Christmas).

My cousin works for a breeder/shower (she does Westminster and all of the big shows, you've probably seen her dogs if you watch the show). She also does some rescues and they got a male pom in that had basically lived in a crate for 3/4 of its life. Cousin has been working with him for a while, might see what they think of him.  Despite everything, he apparently is a snuggle bunny and loves cats/kids.

This is the dogi1210.photobucket.com. Usually not big on Poms (my prior experience with them have been demon dogs from hell) but the lady who runs the rescue I volunteer at has a couple of poms and they are as sweet as can be,

That reminds me of one time when I was coming home from a visit to Mt. Rainier. The military LOVE to fly through the canyons and stuff up in the mountains...good terrain training. Anyway, was coming down the hiway on a 2-lane road next to a very deep canyon on my right....looked over after something caught my eye. An f-plane was cruising down the canyon right at eye level! Scared the crap out of me! And then he went straight up....and left. AWESOME!

yobbery: OlderGuy: yobbery: Has the new electrical service installed this week.

[www.smugmug.com image 500x500]

Square D breakers.. good ones.... and hope that,s a temp cover......

With everything....appliances, lighting...etc. going high efficiency I feel that 100A is plenty.

...and a cat.
[www.smugmug.com image 400x240]

Cutler Hammer is good.. this house came with a 100 amp service..  water heater and furnace are gas.. don't use the clothes dryer.. conditioned basement with a dehumidifier.. hang the clothes on the gas pipe and other locations... 2-3 hours and everything is dry.. only thing that uses 220 volts is the AC outdoor unit..... no need to upgrade to 200 amps....  and soooo glad that was not your panel....

TheIceQueen, regret the passing of your grandparents' dog.  You & they knew it was coming, just matter of timing.  The condolences that are due are offered.
Furrther down, poms are kinda cute & fluffy, even tho you say they're rotten.  Pic of this one sure looks fluffy! Never actually knew a pom; parents had a Yorkie, Meg, for short span but she aggravated my mom's allergies, as did the Siamese cat when I was a Young Yout'.
Also didn't say Well Done on Little Pie's progress & copings. Well done also on the guinea pigs.
Final in series of kittens in cretinbobHold is of course Calendar Girl Delta, with the tongue! Believe that photo was in the calendar  that did raise a few bux for LittleMews.
Will need to collapse in a puddle soon, but need fetch this  I was inspired to commit, despite no PhotoShopping talent whatsoever.

Which accounts for the fact that I am too lazy to go back and respond to certain comments, so I will just leave a large supply of hugs, congratulations and condolences for those that need them, please go to the white courtesy booth to pick them up.Dude. Here is how my stupid cat seriously screwed herself up. She had a habit of hanging out on the second floor railing. Every once in a while, she would fall to a deep enough sleep where she would fall off the balcony, heading to the hardwood floor some 15' below - with a iron bench to one side.

Usually she would catch herself on the second story carpet on her way down and scramble like hell to get back up. Sometimes she wouldn't and I would hear a loud THUMP - usually late at night, early in the morn.

Both cats did it, I sprayed the "Kitty be gone" stuff on the rail, it didn't matter, they were up top and could see the full living room plus the front door; prime real estate for a cat.

Last Saturday night, I was scratching Whiney Lou along her back and came across a HUGE bump at he base of her tail. I couldn't figure it out, but slowly noticed she wasn't shaking her tail at all.

I don't want to post this in line in case we have some squemish ones out there, but the cat was able to completely dislocate her tail. Completely. She has pain feeling in her tail, but has no ability to make it move. The vet says the nerves may come back enough to be able to move it, for now she has learned to stand up and walk in a circle to get her tail next to her mouth for grooming.

Stupid Kitty. I put a two inch metal angle up there to make it unsuitable to sit on, she still goes up and sits on it. However, it seems to be uncomfortable enough so she cant fall to a deep enough sleep to fall off again.

Whatever.

If you want to see the X-Ray, click here. You can see the complete vertical dislocation, nothing horizontal. Plus you can see the nerve pipe? Is that what it is called? That was never severed, nor were there any fractures.

Her tail hangs like a flag on a still day. She still climbs up on that railing.

Never underestimate a cat's arrogance.

She never showed pain. Ever. That is the trippiest part of it. Even now, when I grab hold of the very end of tail to make her move it out of my hand, there is no response. I can even scratch her right on that dislocation, and she just purrs.

/I don't care who or what you are, that crap HAS TO HURT.

That is remarkable!  Poor kitty!  Did the vet try to pull gently on the tail to re-align the bones?  (Yes, I am a Chiropractor and that is just how my brain works)  Nerves regenerate very slowly, but if there is going to be improvement I would guess that you should see something change within a few months.

Sickapie: spinach gunk: Sickapie: Spinach Gunk, I thought I read that you were feeling sad.

Aw.  Sorry to hear.  I completely understand about the You Know What.  And so does everyone here.  We're here for you.  It's so hard to see our little furbabies go through that.  Please give him gentle skritches from the Pie house and buttsniffs from Olivia.  {{{hugs}}}

Yay!

That is such wonderful news!  Good girl!  What textures does she like and which ones does she hate?

That is actually very typical for a cat. In the wild, it would be a huge disadvantage from a survival standpoint to show any sort of injury or illness. Remember, they're predators. What do those sorts of predators like to go for first? The sick, old, injured and young. So they guard their own young and tend to "walk it off" when injured and tend not show they're injured or ill. It's such a strong trait, even our spoiled house cats tend to "suddenly" become ill, when actually, they'd probably been ill for a few days and it just takes a while for it to get so bad that they can't hide it as well. Knowing that about cats, it doesn't surprise me at all that your silly girl acts like it's no big thing and you're, like, totally overreacting, moooom!

Maybe one of the other caturdayians will know of something else you can put up there to keep her off the rail. Maybe you can provide an alternate, but just as spectacularly awesome thing for her to chill out on? Like a large cat tree or shelf or?

I'm glad she's ok. You're probably in worse shape inside than your poor little beastie is! Cats really do push it....

Well, we returned from our outing to find that not only had Buddy kept down his yams, but he had cleaned off the plate of gooshyfood I'd put out for him earlier that afternoon (even though it getting pretty dried-out by then)!  Such a relief to see after sadly flushing meal after meal down the toilet for the last two days!

So, he got two different brands of gooshyfood and some more yams for dinner.  He ate all the yams but only one of the kinds of gooshyfood, which is not a bad thing since now we know what to avoid for the time being.  Then when we had our dinner, he went cuckoo begging for bits of Mr. Gunk's chicken yakisoba!  Didn't even notice when we hid his pills inside a chunk of chicken, lol!  Later he enjoyed a good longish walk even though it was a little rainy out.  Yay!

Thank you all again for your emotional support as I freak out -- how many other people would share the joy of a dog wanting to eat?  And the worry when he doesn't?  You are all such dear, kind souls, with great big hearts.  I'm sure Buddy would lick each and every one of you if he could.  Hell, so would I.  :)

ozarkmatt so sorry to hear about your cats tail. I am actually surprised it did not need surgical removal. I wonder why the vet did not try to manipulate it back into place? Okay, so I've accidentally got a new cat. It's a kitten. I have no idea what to name it. I've never seen a cat/kitten this affectionate. He wants to be held constantly, purrs like a dozen locomotives, and runs around my legs back and forth.

I've been a little worried by Emma's initial reaction, but in all honesty, she doesn't seem to have a problem with him. He did hiss at her a few times the first 24 hours, but she never once hissed back, turned her ears, puffed her tail. Whenever she approached, she was very cautious. Not stalking, but curious, keeping an eye out. If I didn't know better, I'd swear she's trying to be a mother to him, or an older sister. She's been curious, friendly, even playful. Initially though, she was not happy with me. Not jealous per se, but she was angry. She wouldn't let me pet her, she wouldn't sleep in the bed with me, and she wouldn't get up on her perch by my desk. Well, she's better now, and so's he.

I kept them in separate bedrooms for the first few days, but they'd been getting along so well that I decided to change it last night, and they both slept in the bed with me. No issues other than playfully batting right at the start, then settled down.

I've got two litter boxes, though that doesn't seem to matter. They use both interchangeably. He shiats a ton. Not is in often, but just huge shiats. Like a couple of golf balls. And they're definitely his, because Emma doesn't poop like that. Which is shameful that I can recognize that. I've got two food dishes and water dishes too, but I'm not sure that makes a difference either. One's got kitten and other cat food, but meh.

I'm doing everything I can to give Emma and No Name equal attention, which seems to be working. However, he likes to interrupt me giving Emma attention and take from her. I'm not responding to it at the moment, I don't know if this is the right thing to do. Only other behavior that's undesirable is that he has been getting up on my desk. With Emma, she knows she can do this, because she can stay on one side. I even have a small bed for her under the lamp. She never goes to the other side. No Name though, he's curious and wants to see it all. When he goes to that side, I take him off the desk and put him down. I don't mind if he gets up on the desk, I just want him on one side of it. And Emma might have something to say about that as well.

So, there it is. I've got two cats now. One beautiful and independent, wanting to be petted and loved on her own terms. One orange and ornery, craving attention and constantly curious. And I need a name for him. His name from the center was Charlie, but I don't really care for that. I've thought about Steve, Hobbes, Kevin, but nothing really seems to fit. Steve does the best, but I don't know. Any ideas on what to call him?

Oh, and his tail is twice as long as Emma's. It's a fairly long tail. Does that mean he's going to be a big cat?

Exactly. They always name themselves eventually. That's why most of my kittehs were named for something we could see about them (GoGo Beastie has markings that make her look like she's wearing GoGo boots, Moo Moo Kitty, or 'Little Moo', is a white cat with Holstein cow markings), but over time, that name can change. They're usually cool with it, and will answer to BOTH names.

You could give him a name using Old Nordic naming conventions. Ragnar Lodbrok didn't start out as Ragnar Lodbrok. He started out life as Ragnar Sigurdsson (there's also another last name he was known as, that I've forgotten at the moment). Later in life he became known as "Lodbrok" as it means "hairy breeches" and he wore hairy breeches. His son Ivar Ragnarsson was known as "Ivar the Boneless", which is far less impressive, but he was a king as well. Also, Erik the Red was born Erik Torvaldsson, but became known as Erik the Red as he was, unsurprisingly, a redhead.

You could call No Name (pick manly name here) and follow it up with "the Orange", because you don't get much more manly than a Viking name, that's for sure.

I vote for "Nys the Orange"! "Nys" is the first part of the modern Norwegian word for "curious", the rest of the word I forget because my Norwegian sucks eggs. Then get him a little great axe and a very historically inaccurate horned helm and RAWR!!! I AM VIKING CAT! *pillages garbage pail* :-D

The Ice Queen: So this has been an up and down week.

Interesting article - I have a cat is that is scared of pretty much everything.  He will spend all day under the bed and hiss at anything that comes near.  He also gallops like a horse because he had his leg reconstructed after falling 25 feet out of a window on top of a garbage can.  It's amazing he's still alive.

12 is barely middle aged! I hope he's OK, too. The nose thing isn't a good way to tell much of anything, but the no eating or drinking is a really BFD. Glad you're taking him to the vet. Let us know what you find out.

Sorry I didn't email/respond from last week. By the time I remembered to check again, last week's thread closed and I don't see an eip. I will try your suggestion once I have gotten the kitties a little more familiar with people, at least to the point where I can actually grab them and not have to worry about a trap or something. It is going mostly well. One of them will let me touch them but freak out a little bit but it's getting better. One will get close enough to eat near me but not let me touch and the other two won't come near at all. I brought my old lady cat outside so I could show them 'hey this cat likes me and lets me pet her!' and they were totally excited to meet her and sniff around her and stuff and she was very polite about it. I wasn't sure what to expect because she has been an indoor, only cat since we have had her but she responded well. I'm looking forward to adding two of these little guys to my household and finding a place for the others.

Chicky update.
The little birds have spent the last week growing in the rest of their feathers. They are all bold enough to go outside now. At first only a few went out but after those girls spent a few evenings talking about how much fun they had, the rest decide to give it a try. Little Frodo was the last to go out, he is not as athletic as the rest and it is hard for him to jump up to the doorway.
Their personalities are starting to show. Some leave the house with wild abandon and jump into the new world with wings outspread. Some just walk quietly and gently join the rest of the flock.
It is very difficult to see the dark colored biddies in the patch of "jungle grass", it is a destination for most of them. They spent one morning in a patch of soft sand and learned to get a dust bath,
The game of fly-tag must involve landing on another chicks head, I don't get that game but it must be fun for them.
At one point during this video a car went up the road, Fiona gave one of here very quiet woofs and startled the girls, they immediately grouped together and stood tall to see what was going on. They seem to be calm birds and got over their scare pretty quick.
Enjoy

Here is a short video of my poor horses dealing with 104 degree heat. Little Mountain seems to suffer more from the heat, he likes water sprayed on his head. Castle wants the water sprayed up from underneath. He likes to have his man parts sprayed with cool water and will back up to me when I spray them with the hose. I was busy one afternoon so I thought I would just toss the hose over a tree branch and make them a shower. Mountain got it right away as he is the smarter of the two. Castle got mad because he wanted me to stand there and spray him. The water on his head makes him sneeze.

I couldn't get over the exact markings on the cats.
Trixie is my old cat that we rescued as a stray about 12 or 13 years ago. She was starting to show her age sitting around looking bored until my son and his GF showed up with a tiny kitten named Maggie. It really perked her up to be able to teach a kitten the ropes.
We have a 3rd cat named Misty that we got from a shelter. She was abused by the husband in her old home along with the wife. Years later she still doesn't trust me, but loves my wife.

yobbery: Has the new electrical service installed this week.

That there is sum fancy taypin job. Fer aytee-five dollars an hour, I shud hope theyd tayp it up nice n purty.

Ft of pg 6, once more later in daylit AM than intended.  Been going thru & rounding up stuff for colleague who's collecting bunchofit 9AM tomorrow.  (There's a new cartoon on TV late-ish this eve I considered staying up for, but best not unless I get a nap.)
Good-seeming indications: hummingbird feeder content level was down, so somebirds are schlucking up the sweet red goo.  Feeder's right where it's Cat TV, outside front bay window. We've seen no actual hummers this year, but are glad to provide for. Bought multipack of sweet red goo back in May.
ozarkmatt, Whiney Lou need  not be a genius as she's convinced you to care for her.  If the dislocation hurt, she'd surely be complaining.

sno man: Finally drove past the 3 osprey nests on 5 hydro poles I mentioned last week, with my camera in the car (!)
I could only get two of the nests in the same shot, there are some trees and a slight hill that conspire to obscure the third nest...

The closer nest was occupied when I pulled over, a bit away.  I tried to get closer to get a better shot and the bird took off..  I never did get a really clean shot, but did get these...

Jesus Farking Christ: Real Women Drink Akvavit: lilyspad: He's really cute! He will probably let you know what his name is eventually.... :D

I hope so, because all I'm doing at the moment is calling him "sweetie" and gah, that just mehs me out.  This will sound stupid, but I want a manly name.  Sweetie is for Emma, not the boy cat.

2013-08-03 11:03:21 AM

spinach gunk: Well, we returned from our outing to find that not only had Buddy kept down his yams, but he had cleaned off the plate of gooshyfood I'd put out for him earlier that afternoon (even though it getting pretty dried-out by then)!

This is a cat.

This is the same cat with laser eyes.

This is a close up of previously aforementioned cat.

However, he likes t ...

As most of you know by now, in May Boots had a blocked urethra, so now he's on special food for that, but the other kitties still get regular food.  Boots discovered the bag from the regular food and decided since he couldn't eat the food, maybe it might be fun to attempt to eat the bag.  Or at least destroy it completely for its arrogance...

I've heard (though I don't have much experience with this), that the easiest introductions to make are with an adult female and younger cat of either gender.  Maybe Emma really does see him as "her baby." The Ice Queen: Got a call from my mom this afternoon, my grandparents' dog passed away.

This is the dog[i1210.photobucket.com image 577x1023]. Usually not big on Poms (my prior experience with them have been demon dogs from hell) but the lady who runs the rescue I volunteer at has a couple of poms and they are as sweet as can be,

Oh, I'm so sorry.  :o(

It depends.  She'll eat sandwiches, but not French toast.  Crackers but not broccoli (because it's crunchy), which I've cooked differently to make it softer.  we've just got to keep trying.

Hey everbuddy. Sorry I have been kinda scarce lately, RL has really been getting on top of me and I have been lurking so as to not bring my black cloud of doom and gloom into the thread. Which accounts for the fact that I am too lazy to go back and respond to certain comments, so I will just leave a large supply of hugs, congratulations and condolences for those that need them, please go to the white courtesy booth to pick them up.

I know how you feel, being in a similar state myself. EIP if you need to vent or talk

I told Mr. Kitty he needed to get a job to start paying for all his damn expensive food. So I bought him this tie and instead of going to the job interview he just sat around getting high off catnip all day again. Lazy bastard.

I missed last Caturday, so got a bunch of pics.  These kittens are around 8 weeks old (born June 1st).  Their names are Cupid((mostly black back), Patches (white patch on her back) and Twitch (Orange/white).  The dog's Sally, she's a twelve year old chihuahua/jack russell mix.  She used to try to nurse the kittens, so they obviously get along fine.  The kittens are starting to climb everything (including our legs when opening cat food.

Twitch developed an eye infection about a week ago, and it spread to one eye in each of the other two.  We've been use Vetricyn eye drops on them , and Patch is back to normal.  The other two are definitely showing signs of improvement.  Enough talk, on to pics.

This is a close up of previously aforementioned cat.

However, he likes t ...

It would be AWESOME. Also, being more than a little familiar with his sense of humor, it would be such fun to see him face off with Putin, just to see him bust into that mocking, slightly mad laugh of his before heading off to pose dramatically on the steps of the Kremlin.

Does anyone know of a good crowdfunding site? My shelter will be starting a fundraising campaign to purchase to purchase "Kitty Cribs" for all the cat kennels. It looks like kickstarter only allows art/media related stuff or something that produces an actual product of some kind. I'm looking at Indiegogo right now but wondering if there are any others that I've missed.

Here's the kitty cribs. They provide a lot more room inside the kennels for the cats, supposedly help reduce problems like upper respiratory infection and reduce stress etc. We have 24 cat kennels in the shelter, along with a "cat community center" enclosure that houses about 30 cats. The company offers some other furniture that we hope to purchase for the cat community center also.

Savarose: Jesus Farking Christ: Real Women Drink Akvavit: lilyspad: He's really cute! He will probably let you know what his name is eventually.... :D

I hope so, because all I'm doing at the moment is calling him "sweetie" and gah, that just mehs me out.  This will sound stupid, but I want a manly name.  Sweetie is for Emma, not the boy cat.

What another cat named Steve may look like:

[i1195.photobucket.com image 320x240]
/Also have a cat named Jim.
//Yes, people do look at you a bit weirdly when you tell them your cats are named Jim and Steve.
///Have five cats total, which is more than enough to make people look at you weirdly!

My ex-sister-in-law had two cats named Steve and Bob when I met her.  They were both female and each lived to be at least 19 or 20 years old!

spinach gunk: Well, we returned from our outing to find that not only had Buddy kept down his yams, but he had cleaned off the plate of gooshyfood I'd put out for him earlier that afternoon (even though it getting pretty dried-out by then)!

Salem Witch: Sickapie:

Little Pie has had an amazing turn around.  Thanks for asking!  She is on meds and I credit that and her willingness to take it in the first place for it.  She is eating a ton of solid foods now.  We are still working on veggies and some more healthier foods, but I think we can accomplish that because it's all texture with her.  This is all in the past 2 weeks.  So proud of her!  Yay!
