Aristocles: Soros is just a rich dude who's a farking idiot when it comes to politics.
Aslan is just a dumb fark who tries to get rich selling controversial books.
Beck is just a dumb fark who thinks he's saving America from socialism (unfortunately, he's not been successful)

Fark all three of them. BTW, Aslan's the most annoying because dumbsheet Farklibs think he's a farking genius.

Fark you, I'm drunk. Fark it.

bbtomorrow.

Don't worry about the drunk - you'll be sober in the morning.
Sadly, you'll be stupid the rest of your life.

FlashHarry: wtf is penn doing on that show?

Beck loves Penn. Penn appears to like Beck. I guess Penn's a libertarian. I think he's well-liked here, but to me he always comes off as a jerk and a blowhard who's not nearly as smart as he thinks. He expresses his opinions forcefully, and that can be easy to mistake for credibility. Whenever I've heard him talk about anything, I mostly just hear swearing and ridicule.

IMO, he and Beck are a perfect fit. (Yes, I realize Beck doesn't swear.)

FlashHarry: netizencain: From a purely critical view point, you've got to admire Becks ability to sway viewers using basic words and drawings.  It's like watching an evangelist at work.  There's a lot of people that really bite into this stuff because of his ability to make complex situations appear to simple.  Of course, you have to disregard common sense and intelligence, et al... But still.... you've got to admire his abilities.

he's a huckster. a snake-oil salesman. a modern-day pt barnum.

Like the man said, he's an evangelist.

Please - you cannot compare Glenn Beck to PT Barnum.

By the time you walked through Ringling Brothers, PT would have separated you from your money.  But in exchange, you'd have a fun time looking at trapeze artists, elephants, and the bearded lady.

By the time you listen to an hour of Glenn Beck, he'll have separated you from your money.  But in exchange, you'd have overpriced Liberian gold coins, emergency safety food (aka a can of beans), and you'd have lost several IQ points.

Glenn Beck said something on his show
which gets archived on BuzzFeed
which gets posted on Fark
who also posts links to MSNBC
whose politics lean to the left
just like George Soros.

But it goes deeper.

Glenn Beck sells gold, because speculation shows gold will only increase in value.
You know who else used to speculate currency? George Soros.

But wait. There's more.

Glenn Beck
Engineers and
Orchestrates
Rhetoric against
George Soros
Every day.
Systematically
Obliterating credibility
Reaching new lows for cable TV
Obfuscating his real motives in a
Self-serving fashion

What does that spell, America? Now let me ask you who the real enemy is.

Spoken like a true anti-intellectual. Aslan is a brilliant scholar of religious history. He's the kind of scholar I wanted to be when I was doing my grad work in Comparative Mythology. Perhaps you would like to provide some actual argument against his scholarship? Refute his work with scholarship of your own?

Zealot is a great book. Yes, he is creating a "biography" with few sources that mention anything remotely related to Jesus. However, he is creating a biography of what someone like Jesus would have been like drawing from what we know about the time and place and the religions extant. For those things we have a great many sources. If there is any charge against Aslan's hypothesis it is that he should not have sub-titled the book "The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth". People are being misled into thinking it's a real biography rather than a construct assembled from equal parts history and reason. This is regrettable, but it does not negate his scholarship, his research or his hypothesis.

Ima10urin8: I always thought Soros was an evil man because of what he does to countries...albeit legally.

He crushes currencies that cause massive hardship on the countries whose currencies hes shorting.

Plus his recollections of his childhood as a helper to the Nazis and saying he enjoyed that work turned people off as well.

Him being of Jewish decent and all

You learned all that from Beck, did you?

cc_rider: Can anyone point to a legitimate reason that the right demonizes Soros? Besides the fact that he's liberal and rich, of course. How has George Soros ever "harmed" America? I know they're told that they must hate the scariest librul boogieman evar, but I've never heard a single good reason.

Righties hate rich liberals because they affront their narrative of reality. In their reality, liberals are lazy, nonproductive, and poor. Rich, productive liberals are, to a rightie, like a black hole to a Descartian physicist (if they existed any more).
Something that violates the laws of God and Nature merely by existing.
And the fact that rich, productive, hardworking liberals are all around them really pisses them off, since it invalidates their deluded reality script.

Bashar and Asma's Infinite Playlist: I was reading Zealot earlier today and some lady literally reeled back when she saw it, like I was going to rip off her head and devour her entrails. I almost wish Aslan hadn't owned that Fox News talking head, since I bought this book before it was cool... and before it was a national issue about Muslims perverting Christianity for their Muslim agenda. Now I can't just read a book I thought it was interesting, because it's a political stand meant to insult Christians and champion Muslims.

Eat a bag of dicks, Roger Ailes.

Unfortunately im not a hipster concerning this book and bought it after i heard the interview. Sounded like i would like his humor and the reviews are good. So far i really like it. Im borderline agnostic/athiest and think it has been a pretty good read so far.
