cc_rider: Can anyone point to a legitimate reason that the right demonizes Soros? Besides the fact that he's liberal and rich, of course. How has George Soros ever "harmed" America? I know they're told that they must hate the scariest librul boogieman evar, but I've never heard a single good reason.

Righties hate rich liberals because they affront their narrative of reality. In their reality, liberals are lazy, nonproductive, and poor. Rich, productive liberals are, to a rightie, like a black hole to a Descartian physicist (if they existed any more).
Something that violates the laws of God and Nature merely by existing.
And the fact that rich, productive, hardworking liberals are all around them really pisses them off, since it invalidates their deluded reality script.

I always thought Soros was an evil man because of what he does to countries...albeit legally.

He crushes currencies that cause massive hardship on the countries whose currencies hes shorting.

Plus his recollections of his childhood as a helper to the Nazis and saying he enjoyed that work turned people off as well.

Him being of Jewish decent and all

Sandusky Knows Best: Bashar and Asma's Infinite Playlist: I was reading Zealot earlier today and some lady literally reeled back when she saw it, like I was going to rip off her head and devour her entrails. I almost wish Aslan hadn't owned that Fox News talking head, since I bought this book before it was cool... and before it was a national issue about Muslims perverting Christianity for their Muslim agenda. Now I can't just read a book I thought it was interesting, because it's a political stand meant to insult Christians and champion Muslims.

Eat a bag of dicks, Roger Ailes.

Unfortunately im not a hipster concerning this book and bought it after i heard the interview. Sounded like i would like his humor and the reviews are good. So far i really like it. Im borderline agnostic/athiest and think it has been a pretty good read so far.

I'm somewhat torn on the book, because it's written in such a great, accessible way for a layman, but I simultaneously would like having a footnote every couple sentences that would make it totally inaccessible and academic.

Yep. That's about what I figured. That, and the retarted conspiracy theories pushed by Glennie and Lyndon LaRouche.

Slaxl: netizencain: From a purely critical view point, you've got to admire Becks ability to sway viewers using basic words and drawings.  It's like watching an evangelist at work.  There's a lot of people that really bite into this stuff because of his ability to make complex situations appear to simple.  Of course, you have to disregard common sense and intelligence, et al... But still.... you've got to admire his abilities.

Yeah, or you could just accept that he's exposed Aslan's hidden motive. Did you know that George Soros owns a wardrobe company? Hillary Clinton is a shareholder in that same company. Do you need a diagram? You got all three there. Add that to the shapeshifting SS guy guarding Obama ages ago, and the countless UFO's that keep an eye on us for the NSA and you begin to unravel the truth. Resa Aslan is lying. Or a lion. Therefore Islam is bad and should be expunged from the Earth.

I don't think I could be clearer than that.

But if you expunge Islam from the Earth it will just flee to Mars and Obama will use his time machine to travel there and rescue it.

Study it out.

OR: Somehow there manages to be a "limousine liberal east coast elite" that controls the media, even though all liberals are supposed to be the nonworking lazy food-stamp collecting 47%.

No conservative I know has ever been able to explain this baffling paradox to me.

Completely coincidentally, Alsan was a blurber on the book I just finished reading.   There, that had as much to say about this as Glenn Beck does.  Actually more since the book was interesting.

FlashHarry: wtf is penn doing on that show?

Beck loves Penn. Penn appears to like Beck. I guess Penn's a libertarian. I think he's well-liked here, but to me he always comes off as a jerk and a blowhard who's not nearly as smart as he thinks. He expresses his opinions forcefully, and that can be easy to mistake for credibility. Whenever I've heard him talk about anything, I mostly just hear swearing and ridicule.

IMO, he and Beck are a perfect fit. (Yes, I realize Beck doesn't swear.)

That's even funnier considering the Christian interpretation of those stories.

Therefore, Aslan is Jesus, The Muslim Brotherhood is president, and Sharia Law replaces the Constitution. Mind blown, Foxtards!

Yeah this is all pretty silly, but I did actually hear Beck biatching about Alsan on his radio show yesterday morning (not a regular thing but I do turn to right wing radio occasionally on the morning drive to wake me up with anger) and he mentioned Reza's tweeting.  And honestly the guy does really seem like a douche on his twitter account.

Why? Does reading his tweets change the content of the book?

I don't see anything particularly bad there. The worst one was the first one, and I have no idea what he's responding to. It might not even be that douchey in context.

Really?  Do I have to?  Cause here I was thinking it was really easy when you're willing to lie shamelessly.

It's not easy. It really isn't. Lots and lots of people are willing to lie to your face. Beck has learned to make a ton of money from it, and that's an unusual skill.

Spoken like a true anti-intellectual. Aslan is a brilliant scholar of religious history. He's the kind of scholar I wanted to be when I was doing my grad work in Comparative Mythology. Perhaps you would like to provide some actual argument against his scholarship? Refute his work with scholarship of your own?

Zealot is a great book. Yes, he is creating a "biography" with few sources that mention anything remotely related to Jesus. However, he is creating a biography of what someone like Jesus would have been like drawing from what we know about the time and place and the religions extant. For those things we have a great many sources. If there is any charge against Aslan's hypothesis it is that he should not have sub-titled the book "The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth". People are being misled into thinking it's a real biography rather than a construct assembled from equal parts history and reason. This is regrettable, but it does not negate his scholarship, his research or his hypothesis.
