Do not - REPEAT, DO NOT - play the "in the National Football League" drinking game with his speech.  It will end with your death.

Duerson made sure to keep his brain intact when he shot himself, Belcher didn't.

i will never forget him (Sapp) after that game, shouting, "PUT A HELMET ON!  THEN PUT A HELMET ON!  PUT ON A HELMET OLD MAN!" to sherman at midfield.

yeah, nothing says "courage" like a 27, 28 yr old 6'2", 320lb guy talking shiat to a 55yr old man.

Warren Sapp you suck.

I still remember the time that Jon Runyan tried to kick Sapp in the balls. He didn't realize the pads were too big to lift his leg that high

they eventually outlawed the type of hit Sapp laid on Clifton.  you can youtube it.  i don't know the precise owrding of the rule but in sum (i hope i'm getting it right) you can only hit a player not directly involved in the play above the waist.  the ballcarrier was 20-30 yards away, clifton was literally jogging (if even that) upfield, Sapp saw him, Clifton wasn't looking, Sapp took him out at the knees.  Clifton's hip / femur was broken.

The fact that Tim Brown and Jerome Bettis aren't in that group is silly.  I don't know if either of them should be there instead of Sapp, but there's no way Dave Robinson is more deserving than any of those three.

After watching that I can't imagine anyone who would put him in the HoF

Clifton should be waiting for Sapp at the induction ceramony with a sledgehammer or a gun

Maybe both

And as testimony to Clifton's heart and toughness, it didn't end his career.  He played another decade and won an SB ring.  Sapp is just a POS.

So it's courageous for a 55 year old man to talk shiat to a 27 year old and then promptly run away in a circle of security?

They were both dicks in that situation.

Sapp: [Ref dismisses the jury after Sapp's revelation on the stand about the Cheap Shot] What is this? What's going on? I did my job, I'd do it again!

[stands up defiantly]

Sapp: I'm gonna get on a plane and go on back to my locker room.

Ref: You're not going anywhere, Lineman.  Cameraman ... guard the Lineman!

[Cameraman takes post]

Ref: Chad Clifton?

Sapp: What the hell is this?

Chad Clifton: Lineman Sapp, you have the right to remain silent. Any statement you make...

Sapp: I'm being charged with a penalty? Is that what this is? I'm being charged with a penalty? This is funny. That's what this is. This is...

[turning to Sherman and lunging at him]

Sapp: ... I'm gonna rip the eyes out of your head and piss into your dead skull! You farked with the wrong Buccaneer!

Chad Clifton: Lineman Sapp! Do you understand these rights as I have just read them to you?

Sapp: [contemptuously] You farkin' people... you have no idea how to defend an interception. All you did was weaken a game today, Sherman. That's all you did. You put big hits in danger. Sweet dreams, son.

Sherman: Don't call me son. I'm a former English teacher, and a coach in the National Football League, and you're under penalty, next time, you son of a biatch.

[glares at Sapp]

Sherman: The witness is excused.

No, the important thing as that the football hall of fame doesn't induct players as also being a member of a team, they just honor the player.

I can understand where Sapp is coming from, emotions were running high in that game and he let them fly. Its no excuse in any way to do that to someone, but you do what you got to do to win.

Suspended for what? At the time it was a hit that was perfectly legal in the NFL and something that you would see in at least one game every Sunday.

Warren Sapp is a grade A douche nozzle, luckily chad clifton got the last laugh and pitched a shutout against Warren the next time they played...Also for the last years of Warren's career he was a hell of alot more bark than bite still probably a hall of famer but one of the douchiest of all time for sure

The play blew up, Clifton didn't have situational awareness, he failed to protect himself, and he got decked by a legal hit as a result. Sherman and Clifton can fark off for all I care.

In contact sports?  Never...  or as ongbock pointed out in every fricking game.  Roles reversed Clifton would have gladly done the exact same thing.
