Hulett's earlier injuries stem from a June 18, 1991 incident in which he was riding his bicycle along a railroad track. Hulett was a 12-year-old special education student at the time. He was hit by an Amtrak passenger train. The impact sent him flying on to a nearby track where a Conrail freight train also hit him.

Hulett, who suffered a broken left hip in the incident, requiring surgery, was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

No, he wasn't.  He was charged with Contempt of Cop.

Seriously, why do we continue to accept this behavior from our police force?  Our law enforcement make us the laughingstock of the world.

/indeed.  The guy was obviously handicapped, and wasn't bothering anyone beyond the capital crime of standing up.  So, to save him from potential injury, they taze him, and break his hip.  And if THAT wasnt bad enough, then they charge him with a crime to cover their asses for farking him up for no reason.  And really? if you have to tell a guy who's just standing there you're going to taze him, and ask him if he's "ready", the situation isn't bad enough for a taser.  He was breaking no laws, and just asked why you were asking him to get off the bus, as he had done nothing.  So you fark him up to teach him a lesson. Classy.  I usually side with the law, being a "thankfullly" former officer, but in this case, i hope he wins millions of dollars and the officers in question end up guarding some shiat hole warehouse for the rest of their lives.

/ok, i RTFA, and sounds like Mr. Stabby was an asshole.  And yes, if you brandish a knife at a cop, or even a group of them, chances are, you're gonna get fired up.  A knife is deadlier than a gun, as it can inflict massive damage quickly, and unzip you like a melon. Yeah, and the 6 shots after he was already down were totally justified.  And then tasering him after that in an attempt to cover their asses.  Seems legit.

Just, no. Unless you are breaking a law or there is some specific reason a bus needs to be cleared for safety or something, police do not have a right to detain you or use force to remove you from a public bus. Tell me what law he was breaking that gave the police the right to so much as touch him. In the video, the cop says something about conducting an investigation. But the article says nothing about any other mitigating factor. They just didn't want him standing. That's not a crime, thus they were not within their rights to touch him. He asks repeatedly "for what reason" they want him to get off the bus, and they never give him a valid reason. You have every right to ask police what probable cause gives them the right to detain you without being tasered.

Tasers are for pussies, fire hoses and German sheppards are the way to deal with upitty bus riders.

Well yeah, he's mentally deficient.  Most of the cops are the same guys who made fun of, tormented, beat up etc the retards while in school.  Why stop when they are adults and can completely get away with it now?

I'm sorry but until the police stop protecting the bad apples and the bad apples go to prison for their crimes as any other citizen breaking the law would they garner 0 respect or sympathy from me.

Because the bus can't proceed on its way until the passengers are seated. If the driver allows the guy to stand, he's putting his job at risk.

That is flat out untrue.  People ride NY buses all the time standing up.

From a different article: http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2013/08/disabled_man_plans_to_ s ue_syracuse_police_over_tasering_for_standing_on_a_bus.html
"I didn't think it would be safe to move the bus with this person standing," Wallace's written statement said. Later in the video, another passenger is standing as the bus is moving. He's in the same spot where Hulett had been."

Sounds like the bus driver just didn't like this guy, and the cops didn't either.

I've seen it happen here where if someone refuses a bus driver's orders they don't hesitate to call the police. They park and wait for the cops to arrive and handle it.

Whoops, forgot to quote styckx on this one.

I also don't get the issue with standing. I do it all the time. Especially as I get closer to my destination. Never had an issue with a driver either as long as I'm standing behind the yellow lines. I'm with Wicker on this one. The drive simply didn't like him or was uncomfortable with having him stand so close to him.

Local story, and being sadly intimately familiar with CENTRO buses, the problem isn't that he's standing, it's that he's standing right about on the white line, and is blocking the aisle. Then he has to keep mouthing off at the cops so while the busted hip sucks, next time do what the cops ask and don't be a dick. And for the love of fark, stand further back so people can get around your disabled arse to get on the bus.

2013-08-01 06:18:29 PM
Prove to me that sitting on the bus is required.
