Yet another thing that makes Texas better than where you live.  Of course, it's also filled with rattlesnakes, fire ants, scorpions, beetles the size of a football, and has crappy weather...might be a push...

Good thing the cop didn't have skittles.

Cop probably gave the dude a fist bump too. "Right on, man. For the record, I would have shot that thug too."

Next up: the feds begin looking for a way to bring civil rights charges against him for speeding.

2013-08-01 09:48:50 AM
It is legal to carry while driving, it is legal for him to carry while driving because of reciprocity agreements between some states.  He declared the weapon to the LEO and followed instructions.  No crime there.

That he got away with speeding is something that any of us would be cheering if it happened to us.

Listen: I'm sad that Trayvon Martin was killed, given that had they never met there would have been no crime committed either way, but the only story here is that GZ got off with a warning for a speeding ticket with an out-of-state DL.  That's something.

The rule is, if you get stopped you MUST present your CHL with your DL when asked for the latter. I keep the two taped together for that reason.

Chances are he was doing 80 in a 75. You're on the bubble with most law enforcement at that speed and it would appear that he complied with all laws regarding his CHL. Most people would get a pass by not being a dick when pulled over at that speed.

that's not true in florida.  there is no legal requirement to show a concealed carry permit unless they ask.  however, most people do it out of courtesy and to avoid the consequence of a LEO discovering a firearm on their own.

Good to know. In Texas it is a requirement. You can lose it for not presenting it.

That's how it is here. The common thing is to say "here's my driver license. Do you want to see my handgun permit too?"

That's much better than just announcing "I have a gun" to a cop, if you don't want to suddenly be on the business end of his own weapon.

And normally, the officer will just say "no, don't need to see that. Thanks."

1.)  George Zimmerman should not be driving in Texas, he should be behind bars.

2.)  I saw the taped exchange on the news this morning and I don't recall the officer saying anything about not playing with the firearm.  Did anyone actually hear that or is it embellishment?
