A decades-long multimedia campaign to turn "liberal" into a dirty word has caused the modern-day media to embrace the "both sides bad" narrative like a fat kid embraces cake.

It's been a dirty word for decades - right about the time people figured out what a bunch of marxist loons that "liberals" really were.  Then they moved on to calling themselves "progressives", but nobody was fooled.

The best thing the Democrats can do is work on a solid ground game for 2014, at both the local, state, and national level. Obama and company should take solid control of the Democratic party and get out the vote and replace people at the state level who have been failing with new blood.

This whole middle class jobs thing doesn't sell. You need stronger rhetoric. It's time to beat down the plutocracy in this country, to attack them, to go for the throat. Talk about how they are dismantling NC, talk about how they've acted in Texas. Talk about the pollution and waste. Talk more about global warming. Talk about how NY is working on building a seawall. Talk about overfishing and the death of coral reefs and personal energy consumption. Talk about local vs global. Have a weekly address where you follow the money trail around Washington, and beat up your own party members if you have to.

Obama won't do any of these things because he's too focused on actually doing what little he can as an executive in government. And let's face it he's not that interested in changing the status quo. Neither is the media. The country is sick because the people who lead it, on all sides, suck.

Forget about showing leadership with this Congress, he is not even showing leadership with his own party or the 2014 elections.

When you turn off your computer at the end of the day, does a small smile form on your face when you realize another day was spent portraying yourself as a retard in hopes of gaining attention on a website? I mean, it's 10 years in and you're still doing it...so you're either getting paid extremely well or you have a mental disease.

FTFA: It judges presidents based on what they accomplish. "Great presidents overcome great hurdles," Fournier writes, adding: "To say the situation is intractable seems akin to waving a white flag over a polarized capital."

Then Fournier would judge Obama as a great President.  He's turned the economy around, ended two wars, reduced government spending and implement a healthcare system while overcoming the hurdle of an obstructionist GOP that at every turn tried to sabotage the President's efforts.

Started around the time Zionists branched out of Hollywood and TV and into TV News.

But that doesn't sell papers. Instead, in order to keep folks buying the rag, you have to show that it's a horse race, and that it's NECK AN NECK!

Which is sort of the issue. At this point, we have a media that profits from keeping debate not so much a discussion about issues, but a back and forth about who is to blame, because that's a lot easier to focus on, with "winners" and "losers" as opposed to the merits and flaws of specific policies, and specific individuals. Specifics are anathema to the current media circus...

The way media "covers" our leaders in both parties also gives them great power as king-makers, and breakers. It becomes harder to maintain that power if one side is seen as washed up, time to pump that stock up.

Analogies are useful for taking complex issues and relaying them in simple terms. They're also useful in trying to get people to accept fallacious thinking as correct. Your post is an example of the latter.

Despite what you're claiming, the GOP isn't holding America hostage. Obama's policies are destructive and the reason why we're suffering such a poor economy. His policies are essentially a retreading of what made Detroit fail. The GOP refuses to go along with destroying America.

Right along the time liberals were bombing government buildings, and their leaders were talking about forced eugenics, people realized who they really are.  Now you're 'progressives'. Some of you are statists.

False balance is just as bad as overt partisanship to me. It's why morons like Jenny McCarthy and climate change deniers are treated seriously.

It's True! It's not like the Fed has been reporting for over a year that the biggest obstacle to economic recovery is Congressional insistence on cutting spending or anything.

The Washington media definition of great hurdles is less based on these things and more based on "funny anecdotes about working with Mitch McConnell that you can tell to Washington media types".

Yes. And the GOP would much rather us fail like Jefferson County, Alabama.

In fairness, they just want the market to decide. Like how well banks did with that housing bubble. I mean, yeah the government stepped in, but that was the market talking. "Save us so you can save yourselves!" That's all that folks want: public risk and private profit. Why is that such a hard concept to grasp? Deregulate and then be around to clean up the mess made. THAT'S what governments are for, and anyone who doesn't get that is a lousy Commie/Pinko who doesn't realize that only when folks are profiting wildly off others can we truly be free, except for those who are in competition with us, and those folks should be ashamed and regulated into oblivion.

Study it out, sheeple...

/why, yes the assisted market model that we're using does irk me...

I'll agree with that.

You do realize that fascism is actually a form of socialism, right?

Anyway, the GOP is now, in all actuality, what is left of the Christian Socialist party from a century ago.  Go look it up, you might actually learn something new.
