Marcintosh: Why do male dolphins die before the females?
squirrelinator: Marcintosh: Why do male dolphins die before the females? When female dolphins become pregnant, they offload a large amount of toxins into their first fetus. This fetus / new born usually is sickly, and may die fairly early. But the second pregnancy is usually viable and sound, and is a healthy new dolphin, because the FIRST fetus absorbed most of the the toxin offload. Male dolphins have no such vector by which to offload toxins, which MAY explain what is happening. I don't honestly know./Biologist, not just making stuff up.
