Oh boy. The Blaze, main page, AND anti-immigrant hysteria.

2013-08-01 10:50:03 AM
It's that second part (about not being able to track everybody) that makes me less uncomfortable about that first part.

Ahh yes another fine example of Republicans "Starve the Beast" philosophy when it comes to government. Make rules and requirements for government agencies, don't give them the necessary funding, and then when things get screwed up yell and scream about how the government can never do anything, but create problems.

It is amazing how much people truly believe the scariest words in the world are "I'm from the government and I'm here to help.", when in reality the scariest words in the US are "I'm a Republican."

Subby really thinks that people who overstay their visas are likely to draw attention to themselves by doing something as drop-in-the-bucket unlikely to benefit them personally as voting?

Implant a chip in each person as they come off the boat / plane ? Like the one I've got in my dog.

Don't forget the whole "Illegal aliens can't vote, and attempting to register would out them to the authorities."

Most foreign born Americans I know lean Republican. I bet Mexicans would too if only the GOP could hide their seething contempt for them for an election cycle or two.

They do it because they're here to steal our freedom(freedom being a precious and limited resource), Rush told me so.

Deep Contact: What a BS story.

No, it's not.

What you missed in it is that there's going to be a push for a law that creates a monitoring system to keep track of people LEAVING the country.  You know, to keep track of people overstaying a visa.  Not to keep us in if things go really badly.  Nothing at all like East Germany.  No, nothing like that at all.  Now, please turn your TV on, and go back to watching Snooki.

Really? McDonalds pu extra onion on my burger when I asked for NO onion. And you want private businesses to run healthcare?

/MY DMV, being run by competent people and properly staffed with modern equipment, is faster than most fast food restaurants. Title transfer, new tags AND new fishing license, 8 minutes. Tag renewal? As fast as they can take the money and make change.

It's always been odd that the US visa system is honor-system based. But then again, there's no really good way to track people in the US, for the most part. ICE doesn't really have the authority to do that.

That's why getting a US visa is hard - because the expectation is that you might stay.

"Undocumented" voters and voter fraud (i.e. vote early vote often) is the only thing that gets Democrats elected. Why would they care? Why else do they fight so hard against voter ID laws?

As opposed to the Democrat methodology of 1) putting a huge program into place, 2) throwing a ton of money at it, then 3) when it doesn't have the desired effect scream that it needs more funding to succeed. Go to step 2.

Yup.  Nearly everything can be done online in my area, and the few things that can't have taken me minutes, since you can arrange an appointment at the DMV in advance.

I have also been audited by the IRS, and was similarly impressed with their efficiency and professionalism relative to their reputation.  (My postdoctoral stipend was handled in an unusual arrangement that made us look like independent contractors.  A bunch of other people in the program also got audited.)  Nearly everything could be handled by email, and when I had questions I had a direct phone number to the person (singular) handling my case.  I got an itemized list of what they wanted up front, along with clear instructions.  Everything worked out in my favor, and they thanked me and went away without collecting a dime.

I'm guessing the people promoting the hostility to the IRS were either caught  cheating or can't follow simple instructions.  It's not the IRS's fault you wrote "Potato plus potato" in box 5a.

Umm, like the whole Obama would never have made it on the ballot in one state without massive fraud? How about the chick who voted for Obama 5 times? Come on now. Dems are corrupt.

You forgot the part where it doesn't work because the Republicans gutted it in committee or snuck riders into unrelated legislation that castrates its funding, so that they can use its failure as a talking point in the next election. "Big Government" doesn't just apply to the executive branch or just to Democrats. The legislature has way too much leniency on what it can do, too, and both parties frequently use it as a weapon against each other, to the detriment of the whole country.

"The Government", as if there is only one agency, monolithic. A common fallacy among those that wish only to biatch and deride.

2013-08-01 02:31:26 PM
The only documented voter fraud in Oregon for the last election cycle was by a Republican clerk who filled in ballots where people forgot to vote Republican.

California here.  If you have an appointment (and the next open one is in about a month), it takes about 2 hours to get a drivers license and an hour to get a license plate.   If you DON'T have an appointment, it takes about 5 hours to get through the line to begin going through the 2 hour process.

I noticed that you are having another paranoid meltdown without being able to provide reputable sources regarding the origin of your fears.  How many cases of voter fraud were documented in the last 20 years?  I'm sure given that the Republicans control a sizable majority of Governors' mansions, they would be interested in investigating voter fraud by the other party.

When you are done with your hourly pants-shiatting, perhaps you can get around to that.
