I feel robbed.  WHen he pled not guilty,  I was really excited.  I was really excited for the defense that was going to come.  I wanted to see how exactly they could find a way to plead not guilty in the face of ridiculous evidence.  And now we are robbed of that.  Now he just goes to jail,  some pervert schlub.

Apparently it decided to quote only one word... awesome.

Well, obviously...
If he did kidnap  and beat and rape three girls for a decade during his hearing, I can't imagine that would affect his sentencing in anything but a negative manner.

nekom: doglover: Now we get to feed and house this guy in special 100,000k per year chimo cells until someone has the chance to shank him, if ever.

What ever happened to the axe man?

He won't get shanked, there's no chance he'll be in genpop.  But consider what protective custody is, it's no different than the standard solitary punishment.  Devoid of human contact other than guards escorting him to his exercise cage for an hour a day, 5 days a week.  23 hours in a cell, alone.  I'd be begging for the axe before too long.  There's no legal punishment that can be inflicted on him that truly matches his crimes, but he's not going to have a pleasant rest of his life by any means.

Well, maybe letting Charles Ramsey have at him with a baseball bat, but that would be cruel and unusual.

too compassionate

you dont know that for sure. shiat happens in prison, not necessarily from other prisoners.

QuesoDelicioso: His last words will be: "Worth it. I'm out."  Then he'll commit suicide by cop.

I was leaning more toward: "Doesn't matter; had sex."

I think you mean, cool and unusual.

Were he my brother, I'd demand (or really just take) the opportunity to take him out myself.

Nem Wan: It's interesting how, when someone had done something very, very wrong, people want to dismiss information about anything he did right, and round up his evil score to 100%, rather than consider a total picture of his life that might make his evil score be 92.68%, and then consider how someone who is 92.68%  evil should be treated differently than someone who is 100% evil. It's as though people like simplicity.

Oh bullshiat.

What he did was among the worst possible crimes possible. This piece of shiat could cure aids and cancer tomorrow and it still wouldn't wipe his slate clean.

Oh, let's talk about what he did right. That one time he gave a dollar to a bum, so let's take that into account when judging him.

This isn't like some politician who cheated on his wife but on the whole did good for society.  This man tortured 3 women daily for years. He beat them, he raped them, he got them pregnant and made one give birth to his child and at least another he forced a painful miscarriage upon.  Spare us the high ground bullshiat about simplicity. This is pretty farking simple, and if you don't get that then I suggest you are the simple one.

IdBeCrazyIf: JustGetItRight: What he deserves is immediate death and it is sad that we as a nation have lost the balls to give it to him.

Here, read this essay and then come back and tell me the death penalty is worse than what he faces, which is at least 20 to 30 years of adseg before he dies of old age

http://solitarywatch.com/2013/03/11/voices-from-solitary-a-sentence- wo rse-than-death/

He might indeed be driven to (and maybe past) the brink of insanity and wish of the escape of death. He might also be one of those that doesn't care that he's in solitary and tolerates it just fine.

The point is that he doesn't deserve the chance to find out.

nekom: Dear Mr. Castro:

This place will now be your holding pen until your death. Because death is the only way out. There is no chance of reprieve here, No possibility of escape. You are condemned. Either accept it... Or die...

The only way out is... graduation.

I expect nothing less from the Super Duper High School Molester!

"I'm not a monster. I'm just sick. I have an addiction."

This BS excuses pisses me off when it comes to little crimes, much less this.

I wish he could get a sentence of being completely at the mercy of his victims at any time in addition to his life sentence.

Well as others pointed out, other prisoners will be clamoring for the chance at him, so you may get what you wish

chairmenmeow47: what the fark is the deal with throwing money at them?  did he have some sort of kidnappers costco in there?

i think someone posted this on fark before, but solitary seems like the worst punishment he could get:

http://solitarywatch.com/2013/03/11/voices-from-solitary-a-sentence- wo rse-than-death/

That actually sounds like a completely appropriate punishment for Castro. I don't throw the word "evil" around lightly, but that man is truly, truly evil. Death is too good for him.

/Did he let his prisoners have books and photos? Then he shouldn't get to have them either.

Thanks arsehole. Now I know what we'll be hearing from the Christian Right for the next year or two.

Really???  Hey Jack hole, if that was true, 99% of Farkers  would have a dozen people bound and gagged in their houses....

I wonder if Bubba is going to make him dress like the little mermaid?

serial_crusher: life in prison plus 1,000 years

Do they have a prison cemetery or something?

I'm no lawyer so grain of salt, but my understanding is that they do this sort of thing so that if one charge gets thrown out on appeal, the other charges will maintain the effective life sentence.

Also, Highlanders.

Neither the prosecution nor the defense wanted to pursue a death penalty case, so it was struck of as part of the plea. He very well could have faced the death penalty if the prosecution wanted to push it, but they felt it would be better to spare the women the ordeal of testifying.

Given that the agreement is life without any chance of parole, I'm fine with this. He's no longer a threat to the public, he'll spend the rest of his days living with the consequences of his actions, and his victims don't have to face him in court.

As much as there's an atavistic part of me that would love to see him drawn and quartered, I think that this is a fair and civilized outcome.

Despite his repeated insistence that he wasn't making excuses for his conduct, Castro played the victim, saying he was addicted to porn and masturbation.

Look, Psycho Dude, I think I speak for all of us when I say that as long as you kept the pron adult and consensual, nobody would have had a problem with you feeding your addiction all day long. Had you stuck to that, you'd be golden.

Lady Indica: serial_crusher: life in prison plus 1,000 years

I'm not sure, but I think long sentences like that are so that if new laws get enacted that knock off good behavior time, or allow for parole hearings at various stages of sentence completion that such prisoners simply won't be eligible.

Any folks out there know for sure?

1000 years, though? I thought it was more a "f*ck you" from the court.

That is because when people do something very, very wrong it tends to cancel out any of the good they may have also have done.

Nothing you can do will you a pass to go ahead and kidnap, rape and torture three women for a decade. There is absolutely nothing that excuses that behaviour.

ps If you are a troll... well done, you got some bites.

Well, they did pop him on 937 charges, so that averages out to a little over a year per charge (I don't know how to equate the life sentence to that.  Probably doesn't have that long left).  I wonder what the actual breakdown looks like.
