I dunno. If this same weather were occurring in Death Valley and it were 130oF, you better believe it'd be on the news, even if no one were out in it.

Well, if it's only a "tragety", nobody cares.

Wake me up when it become a "tragedy" instead.

Temperature alone doesn't create climate, subby.

And I thought the rule was that in Alaska, you don't buy airconditioning units.  You just walk out to feel a breeze for a second

I thought Alaska was supposed to be tolerable in the summer, even warmish, and now you're telling me that it's a big deal for it to be over 70 for more than a couple days in a row? ::scratches Alaska off list of possible vacation spots::

Here's a fun fact delivered by my local National Weather Service in upper Michigan. Fairbanks, AK as of last week had 28 days of above 80F, while locally we had only 16 days. Apparently Alaska is getting our summer this year and I'm pretty pissed.

/actually other then the shait load of rain it's been nice not to have the air cond. on all the fricking time, it's a real cost saver.

Michelle Bachmann said that there is not a single study that can prove global warming and she is on the house intelligence committee so I am sure she is way smarter than us and we should take her word for it.

monoski: Michelle Bachmann said that there is not a single study that can prove global warming and she is on the house intelligence committee so I am sure she is way smarter than us and we should take her word for it.

There's not a single study she can understand or she agrees with!  Different standard.

Which reminds me... what is with all this gravity shiat?  It's only a theory, right?  I'm sure Michelle doesn't understand the science behind it, so why believe in that, either?  I know... a strawman... but everything in the public side of this debate is word twisting and mental gymnastics targeted to lead to the conclusion that we should kiss the ass of the oil companies.

Subby doesn't mind the heat, since his Mom left him in a hot car with the windows up while she was "loaning" her orifices to those drifters behind the truck stuck.

Truck stuck? That's not even a reasonable typo or spelling error for "truck stop."
Oh, God! The memories are coming back!

Greenlit threads?
Environmentalists?
WTF?

I suppose so, but the temperatures have been in the 90s in England, not the low 70s (the latter being more normal in July.)

On a mildly serious note, even if 70s means nothing to humans, if that really is exceptionally high for Alaska then it could easily kill animals.   Apparently moose (meese?) can overheat at relatively mild temperatures.

My boyfriend lives in Southsea, and it hasn't been higher than the mid-80s there, but of course it's always cooler by the ocean. He's coming to visit me in Austin at the end of the month, when the average temperature is 97F. I've given him advice on what to wear, but I'm still afraid he's going to melt between the airport and my apartment.
