I'll take the Martinez fight over that one anyday. At least there were some stand-up highlights.

Right you are, Ken. Then again, I say that for pretty much all sports.

Bellator is such a farking circus.. This is the dumbest shiat I ever seen..  Two assholes fighting..  Both will be gassed midway of the first and resort to lay and pray.. farking awful..

2013-07-31 08:37:24 PM
This just in: Tito is broke as hell.

2013-07-31 08:37:55 PM
Oh snap, Tito vs. Rampage.  A fight that would matter 8 years ago.

Didn't Coture fight Coleman a few years ago in the Battle of GET OFF MY LAWN ?

This is just battle of the has beens or worse battle of the direct to pirate bay movie stars.

Yep.. Dana spoke the truth when he said UFC and WWE both have their respective places but the two should never, ever collaborate on anything as it will take the credibility of UFC down to zero.  And that's exactly what happened to Bellator.. This is a joke.

2013-07-31 08:40:50 PM
It is getting very hard to watch Bellator and take it seriously.

Yeah, I was thinkin that too.

2013-07-31 08:41:15 PM
Say what you will, this will still be the biggest fight in Bellator history (and unlike the commentary, that's not hyperbole).  If it draws the kind of money they need to be able to contend with UFC, then I'm all for it.

2013-07-31 08:41:31 PM
Since 2007, Tito is 1-6-1,  Rampage is 7-5 in that same time.  Hardly material for the greatest fight in history.

That's exactly what I thought when Tito came out: credibility approaching nada.

I don't want special shows interviewing them, I don't want 6 hours of PPV with only 8 fights, I just want violence, technique, skill and athletic ability.

Testiclaw: One Bad Apple: Testiclaw: Fark that fight, that was farking terrible.  Both of those guys should burn to death.

Embarrassing.

That's a pretty harsh critique for a c list org like Bellator. These are basically the guys that don't get picked for the TUF house that season. This venue is only one step up from the local shows where the audience whistles and cat calls at the female soldiers carrying the flag for the national anthem.

C-List in terms of fighters, sure, but strength and conditioning, particularly for grappling and combat sports, has been around for -literally- thousands of years.

In the past 50 years S&C information exploded, especially out of the Eastern Bloc countries and their athletic research.  More over, this information is readily available and very, very cheap.  You can buy dozens of translated manuals for the price of a single TRX strap training system, so it isn't like there is a hefty price tag for information.

There are coaches today developing insanely strong and conditioned athletes in combat sports, as well as other sports with even greater strength, power and conditioning requirements.  These coaches make their information available, albeit not always for free, but available.

That, and the simple fact that getting strong and getting in shape has remained unchanged for the 100,000-400,000 years that our species has been around.

The point I'm making is this: I don't expect the best fighters in a C-List organization.  But I do expect top-notch strength and conditioning for every athlete in every sport when they're referred to as "professionals".

I have experience in powerlifting, throwing, highland games and grappling/BJJ.  I have trained alongside swarms of folks who were incredibly strong and in shape for their sport.  I know people who want to be the biggest, strongest, most badass people on the planet just...because, and they do it.

Being strong and having a top-notch cardiovascular system are not secret mysteries.  They're simple, just very, very hard.  I expect professional athletes to have respectable strength and conditioning levels because I've seen plenty of amateur athletes have extraordinary strength and conditioning levels.

Fighting skill is no excuse for being a weak, wheezing pussy.

Even worse if you take into account modern equipment, measurements and accessibility.

Even in spite of knowing all this, you still see tons of pros using bodybuilding techniques for s&c.

So, so true.  People don't want to do the part, just look the part.

If I see a dude who has big arms and a big chest, I'm never worried.

If I see a dude with a big neck and thick motherfarking wrists, I start to piss a little.

If I see a skinny dude with farked up ears, I know I'm about to get farked.

Well, Mercedes over there needs new implants.  She's lopsided.  Diamond's tramp stamp is too small, and Missy isn't using enough glitter.  Plus I could actually understand a few words the DJ said.  You guys need to step up your game.

Nick Diaz is all cardio.  It works for him against all non-elite guys, but once he fights top dudes he can't impose his will and loses.  A little power wouldn't hurt.

I agree it's a big fight for Bellator based on name recognition, and the fact that it's two former UFC champs.  My comment was in response to Rampage's claim.  I hadn't seen your post.

It will make some money for them, and I'll probably watch on freak show appeal, but it will be ugly.

It was the same in powerlifting; if a guy had big arms and huge pecs I'd laugh my ass off and think, "today will be cake".

But if I saw a dude with big traps, a bubble butt and hamstrings that hung off of his legs like shanks, I knew that I would be battling for second place.

He is a perfect example, albeit he specifically competes in crazy endurance events.  And yes, I think both of the Diaz bros need to get some strength in their games.  They can set their cardio aside and build some strength and still NEVER have issues gassing.  They just don't lift.

Other guys will do stuff in the gym, but they keep it all retarded, like Crossfit or just really high-rep stuff, since they neglect strength in favor of cardio.

In essence, they turn strength sessions into metabolic sessions which are a shiat compromise between strong and lungs.

Metabolic conditioning will always be a compromise.
