Kids today can't even tell the difference between "there", "their" and "they're". Although their biggest problem seems to be figuring out the difference between "your" and "you're"
Their response to me? "Well your a looser!"

I notice a lot of adults can't tell when to use "seen" or "saw" and say things like "I seen him! I seen him over there! Then I seen him come out the store."
They also have problem with "was" and "were" as in "We was coming out the Walmart the other day, then we seen the guy that done it"
How does this even remotely sound correct when saying it?

If they knew what "kalsomining" was I guess they are smarter than me.

TheGreatGazoo: There has always been and will probably always be smart kids and stupid kids.

One of my classmates in high school came in as a freshman speaking 5 languages including Greek.  Other kids graduate high school without being able to read the diploma.

Back in 1912, 8th grade was often the end of the road for schooling.  After that you went to work to help support your family.

This. They still have traditional 8th grade graduation ceremonies in the small town where my Mom lives. My grandfather left school at 12 to drive a truck for a grocery company to help support the family. Anything beyond 8th grade was almost  the equivalent of going to grad school today. This was the high school, back in 1904:

/Of course, it was torn down and replaced with a crappy 70s-style concrete box.

Society has changed.
In a whole I dont think intelligence has changed. Just what people see as important has shifted.

If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid

I can afford a smart phone. That makes me better than you, and I don't need to bother with smart anymore. Smart is boring and low-class.

Would I struggle to answer some of those? Probably.

If I had a time machine, and took some basic Perl or HTML code back to Bullitt County in 1912, would people struggle to comprehend it? I think it's fair to say yes.

Times change.

Kids are smarter today.
They put iodine in the salt.
This is good for 15 IQ points.

It also explains failing to be able to reason with some radicals,
because in Pakistan 85% of the population does not eat it.
They think it is someWestern plot to make them infertile.
No shocker, conspiracy theories are the national sport there.
