Bondsman covers it. Usually you only cover 10%.

The police were under the 'ass'umption that he was involved in a drive by shooting but In their search for gunshot wounds, those investigators did not find the stab wounds.

That some mighty fine investigating as I'm sure the anus was unremarkable.

There's a funny dialog exchange in an early episode of NCIS that goes like this (very paraphrased)
Somebody:  That Ducky is cute.  What did he look like when he was younger?
Gibbs: Illya Kuryakin.
Somebody:  Who?

Don't pick on the Cop-Haters, there are far fewer ITG points to be gained for being Doctor-Haters. That's so middle-class.

Because they are too incompetent to see a stab wound when searching a body for a bullet hole, or to RTFA apparently.

Sorry to interrupt your cop-hate, but this is on the medical examiner.  If they did anything at all, the cops working the traffic accident would have given him a quick glance for anything obviously out of place.  When they didn't find something like a visible gunshot wound, they sent the body to a facility for a closer examination.

Whomever did that head to toe exam is the one that screwed the pooch.

Um, like multiple stab wounds in the back?

Having been to dozens of fatal motor vehicle accidents, I'd say yes like multiple stab wounds in the back.  Particularly if he put on a different shirt as implied by the fact that they later found a bloody shirt in the car.

The cops aren't going to strip down the body on the side of the road.  For that matter, neither is the EMS crew.  They arrive to an accident involving an ejection with a pulseless patient.  By protocol, he's DRT (dead right there).  They're going to run a strip, contact their medical control, and go back in service.  Since there's no immediate evidence of a crime, the cops are going to call whatever agency handles transporting the body to the medical examiner's facility.  It is then the job of that agency to make sure the wreck was the true cause of death and they're the ones that should have discovered the stab wounds in the back.

CSB time.  I was on an EMS crew that responded to a domestic violence call with the sheriff's office.  When we got there, the male victim was sitting in a chair having a hard time breathing.  He'd been stabbed in the chest with a paring knife three times by his girlfriend.  After the stabbing he took a shower, changed clothes, and sat down to watch tv.  So much time had passed, his wounds were barely visible and yet in another couple of hours he would have been dead.

Cops don't examine bodies at traffic accident scenes. That's the coroner's job as has already been pointed out by others.

And as I have pointed out, you should read the farking article:

In fact, county investigators looked over Worley's body at Betsy Johnson Hospital, thinking he might be linked to a crime earlier in the day where a suspect had been shot at and fled. In their search for gunshot wounds, those investigators did not find the stab wounds.
