Listen, not a year goes by, not a year, that I don't hear about some escalator accident involving some bastard kid which could have easily been avoided had some parent - I don't care which one - but some parent conditioned him to fear and respect that escalator.

Mallrats wasn't a very good movie, but if you ever have the opportunity to pick up the original DVD release they have a video commentary track that is probably funnier than the movie.  They rip on Affleck, talk about what a biatch Shannon Doherty was, and Smith keeps pointing out what he spent money on because he didn't know how he was going to manage to spend 3 million on a movie.

Now that's the REAL Three's Company

I'm going to have to try that spinning thing at the bottom of the escalator handles. That looks like fun.

I can't decide if I feel bad for the dumbass who drove the Hoverround onto he escalator and almost certainly hurt herself, or if I think it's funny that she just kept getting flipped around, strapped into that spinning chair of doom.

That's not funny. That woman at 0:50 will never walk again.

I still can't wrap my mind around why she even remotely thought that was a good idea.

I liked the guy who posed for his girlfriend by sitting on the escalator and then somehow managed to get all flipped around upside-down.

here's the original, and still the best, viral video of the escalator spin (from about 5 years ago).

and here's a recent failed attempt of the escalator spin.

That specific video came through here a while ago. Some farker pointed out the specific subway station in Boston that happened at, and said the elevators were out of order at the time. The escalator was the only way out for her.

Oh. Yes.

Also, might be Porter station in Boston.

But, I wouldn't know. I've rarely left California.

If vocabulary dictates intelligence in children, I would like to know if a vocabulary test could predict getting hurt while playing on an escalator.

We'd need to separate out those who are obviously impaired, but I wonder if it is intelligence or something else.

Dear everybody who posts videos to Youtube,

Your video DOES NOT NEED A FARKING SOUNTRACK! It is usually some irritating barrage of noise that actually takes away from the content on screen.

In most cases, the ambient audio would actually be more entertaining.

STOP IT!

Sincerely,

All internet viewers.

On the plus side of escalators, there's a metro stop in DC with the longest escalator in the eastern hemisphere. The wife and I intend to try it out sometime soon!

Seconded, I turned it off the second that loud racket started. I could have muted it but I'm not a fan of compilation videos anyway, it's always a bunch of old videos I've already seen a hundred times.

Normally I agree, but that song was kinda catchy.

Two hundred and thirteen feet!? The longest one I've been on is the one inside Bonneville Dam and that is only sixty feet long.
I bet you could smoke a ciggy before reaching bottom on the one you're talking about.

Not if you walk your fat ass up it (or down, I guess) as it goes.

Seriously, what are people doing just standing around on it? Sightseeing? "Ooh, look! Cement!"

/used to like the days it was broken down, watching people have to trudge their way up it

A few years ago the Dupont Circle one broke down (even longer than Rosslyn) and the brother of a Washington Post reporter had a heart attack and died.  Turns out if you're out of shape walking up 27 flights of stairs is a bad idea.

I disagree, old chap. I thought the Megadeth song actually made it funnier.
