FTA: "Betty Crocker supports all marriages."

The "Million" Moms organization is going to collectively shart itself.

Good for General Mills.  Seriously.

Who do you think bakes all the wedding cakes and arranges all the flowers?

"This is the market of the future," explained Carlson School Management professor Akshay Rao.

And that's really all the explanation you need. If they felt it was in their business' best long-term interests to oppose same-sex marriage, they would do it. It's not a moral stand; it's a financial one.

Are wedding cakes made from boxed mix?  If not, then what the heck is their financial stake in the wedding industry?

I don't care about gay marriage , but they have cash like anyone else

It's the visibility factor.

ANd I'm sure plenty of cakes are homemade, so plenty use mix

I support everyone right to marry the person they love, but f*ck the wedding industry. Hard. Sideways. Without lube. If you're thinking of getting hitched, just rent a frigging hall and tell all your vendors you're just having a party. If you mention the W-word everything gets 10x more expensive. Don't worry about how upset your Nana will be over it, you'll feel bad at first but you'll start to feel a lot better when you have money to make rent and car payments.

Have you ever been to a restaurant in the Castro? Not to get all stereotype-y here, but let's just say there's a reason the gay community is more associated with interior design than cooking.

What, no comments on the article itself?  Damn, those would be entertaining.

My mom had those and kept them on top of the fridge. I was five years old at the time and thought they were chocolate and remember eating a couple. Everything after that is kind of a blur. Did they have amphetamines in them?

So what's this about Betty Crocker and Aunt Jemima getting married?

Well, Betty Crocker is hardly part of the "the wedding industry".  If anything, they would represent the epitome of "doing it yourself on the cheap".

You must not know any gay men.

Yeah, but it's gay money.  I believe this means it's pink, and Andrew Jackson is wearing a beret.

San Francisco isn't even a top city for gay people any more. There are more gay bars in Phoenix than SF.

I said "top." Tee-hee.

I'm amazed how Nevada is missing on the whole "elope" $$$ market for gay couples. I mean, "sin city", and "sin state" with the brothels... but no gay marriage.

shrug

Gay couples are statistically better educated than breeders, have higher incomes and lower incidence of criminal activity. Generally just better consumers than the clown car crowd.

No.  Every state that has legalized gay marriage has had a rash of "the new wedding cash-cow" stories in their entertainment/business pages.  It doesn't happen.

There may be a handful of same-sex couples that do the stupid big wedding but most just get married legally by signing on the dotted line and that's it.

1) Their parents aren't footing the bill in almost all cases; 2) Having been unable to marry, they know what's actually important about it - and it isn't the cake and flowers, it's the rights and privileges.
