I'm sure he knew the "Why is a Muslim writing about Jesus?" question would come up, and I'm sure that he is aware of Fox News' hostility towards Muslims.  So, yeah, I'm sure he'd prepared for a fight.

It looked to me like Lauren Green got blindsided: "OK Lauren, next up we got some raghead who wrote a book about Christianity. Here are some questions. Don't let this farker off the hook."

2013-07-30 01:21:39 PM
So it really WAS a sekret mooslim konspiracy after all?

2013-07-30 01:24:29 PM
That wasn't a fight so much as an old fashioned tard smacking.

someone needs to make this into a cartoon series drawing out what the talking heads are accusing them of.

It would be like the RSA talks but for morons

Being a non-Republican on Fox is like being Grace Kelly - you've got to do everything Astaire does, backwards and in heels, and even then, you're still just "one of the good ones".

2013-07-30 02:38:22 PM
If he was blindsided then he thought quick on his feet and should be commended.

If he was not, and was well-prepared, then he has foresight and should be commended.

In either case, his point that the questions were not relevant (and, frankly racist IMHO) was spot on.

2013-07-30 02:39:12 PM
It was patently obvious that he expected, and was prepared for, the exact line of questioning that Green presented.

It doesn't change anything about the craziness of the interview, at all. If anything, it makes Green (and Fox) look even more ridiculous.

I was confused. If he'd said 'on your back and in heels', that would be Grace Kelly.

2013-07-30 02:46:08 PM
He has already said a number of times since then that he had read the attack piece they did on him a few days before the interview so knew what was coming. But also said he was still surprised that she wouldn't get off that one point and onto discussing the book itself.

It's difficult to not sound arrogant when you're speaking from a position of authority to someone who doesn't know his or her ass from a hole in the ground.  This reminds me of all the tone-policing people who decided they were going to vote for McCain because of how badly Biden slapped down Palin in the VP debate.

What makes you say that?

I'll admit, the interviewer's question was absurd and irrelevant, but he could have showed some class and risen above the arrogant douchiness he displayed.

When it becomes obvious the interviewer wants to paint a certain narrative and put you on the defensive, you would just roll over? Really?

I'm with Aristocles on this one.  Clearly Aslan needed to stop punching himself.

Ya know, the thing about this is he says:
""I think it's unfair to just simply assume that because of my particular faith background that there's some type of faith agenda with this book.""

It isn't unfair to assume it at all. What is unfair is to ignore all the other credentials and citations that are provided within the book that are presented to show a lack of bias/agenda and then continue to assume that their is a particular bias. One way would be to read critically, the other is to be just plain stupid.

The only issue I have with that interview is that Aslan was lying out his arse about his credentials.

Responding with class gets you completely ignored on Fox News (and probably tagged as "uppity").

FOX is nothing if not predictable.  Gotta stick to the formula.  Come up with the very lowest common denominator of what their audience will be thinking and read it back to them.
