Works for me.  My oldest daughter loves the Artemis Fowl books.  Of course, she also loves the Harry Potter books too.  You know, people--including kids--can like *different* kinds of things *at the same time*.

Kangaroo_Ralph: 10+ books in this series:

A fun read, but not of the same caliber as Harry Potter. The same could be said of the Percy Jackson series, and we saw the kind of shiat that Hollywood made that into. Now Septimus Heap is a good children's series that would make for an interesting movie.

So  they got the guy who scripted the weakest of the Potter flicks to write the anti-Potter. Sound about right.

You'd think that Chris Columbus would have done a better adaptation since everyone loved the first two Potter films so much. Min you, they were the most boring of the bunch, so I guess I fail as a fan of the Potter books.

Speaking of Percy Jackson, they're coming out with an adaptation of book 2, The Sea of Monsters, in a few weeks. Everyone said it was a huge flop, yet it's getting a sequel.

I'd really like for decent adaptations to be made of the following:

The Chronicles of Prydain
The Time Quartet
The Dark is Rising Sequence
The Nicholas Flamel series
The Blue Sword/The Hero and the Crown
The Lumatere Chronicles
The Chronicles of Faerie
The Once and Future King
Howl's Moving Castle
Chrestomanci

Yes, I'm well aware that there have been attempts made for some of these, hence my keyword of "decent." I've heard that A Wrinkle in Time is getting a big budget remake, so I have my fingers crossed. I liked The Black Cauldron, but I wish Katzenberg hadn't been such a douche, and it would have worked far better as a live adaptation. Also, TBC was book 2, and about half of the film's plot comes from Book 1. The Seeker: The Dark is Rising was ok, thanks to McShane and Eccleston, but again, why are we adapting book 2 and doing such a poor job of it? Sword in the Stone and Camelot are fun, but I still want a full-fledged series of T.H. White. I also love the crap out of Miyazaki's adaptation of Howl's, but he changed a lot of it, and I want to see the next two books as well.

/why yes, I will be going to see it, as they are fun films, despite not matching up with the novels at all
//can't always watch/read the high class stuff
///is actually going to go read a book now

To be fair Dresden was a couple of years before the Siffy makeover. Back when they at least pretended to care about their audience. *cough* bonnie-hammer *cough*

According to Jim demographic: Old people, morons, children of old people and morons who are forced to watch whatold people and morons watch

Dresden/Brimstone demographic: Geeks

Now, you're a programming director. What would you put your money on?

Artemis Fowl is great stuff.

Hopefully they keep it with an actual Irish kid as the lead character, instead of screwing it up and American-ize it...

So they're giving him his own movie without Jim West? Did Will Smith just not want to come back? Will Jon Peters get another giant spider?
