Mark Ratner: Why can't they just air drop some dirt or water on it? Hose that shiat down. Do your job, firefighters.
weltallica: I honestly believe nuclear power is the future.
weltallica: But things like this are constant reminders that we are not ready yet.
Oldiron_79: Bravo Two: She's alight, she's alight, she's alight....propane..../got nothin//Eric Clapton's gonna grill me.For not knowing that song is a cover.
LineNoise: I just wanted to come in here and say, I had a hamburger cooked on a propane grill last weekend, and am still literally shaking after hearing this.
Amos Quito: Bathia_Mapes: ThatDarkFellow: Why did the trucks explode? Was this intentional or am I missing a part of the story? From what they're saying on the live feed is that the semis near the plant were full of empty propane tanks, the kind you use with a propane barbeque, but that there's enough residue inside each one of them to make them explosive. One of the things the plant does is fill those propane tanks.FACTOID: Those barbecue tanks are designed to hold 20 lbs. If you take it to a local refiller, they'll fill it to 20 lbs.Blue Rhino has been steadily reducing the amount of propane that it puts in these tanks for years: They're down to 15 lbs now - 25% below capacity, because they know consumers are suckers who don't check the label and pay the price. No, you're not getting stronger, that Blue Rhino propane tank is getting lighter.
Marine1: AverageAmericanGuy: Seriously though, we should be focused on getting ourselves off of fossil fuels. They are dangerous and polluting. We need to start thinking about how we can move towards a majority of our power needs coming from renewables and not from fossil fuels.Pssh. And then what... live in some sort of society where we don't have to worry about this crap anymore?/but but teh jerbs!
Amos Quito: Repair / re-certify or replace?Cost / benefit analysis.Think of tire dumps...
scottydoesntknow: [24.media.tumblr.com image 500x339]/Damn that really sucks//What's up with these plants exploding?
RIP BOYS-IN-BLUE RHINOS
bluorangefyre: Let's see... fifty-three thousand tanks at twenty pounds each... wow. BUT there's no idea what percentage of that were filled or empty. But still, all that LP is like one, maybe two Saturn V rockets blowing up.
asciidic: I used to work right by that plant. Yep, there is an 84 Lumber next to it. My uncle's one of the firefighters on the scene. Doesn't look like fun.
dugitman: digitalrain: This Sheriff spokesman has his shiat together, that's for certain.no kidding. dude's even rattling off numbers about tank volume and stuff.
Amos Quito: Blue Rhino has been steadily reducing the amount of propane that it puts in these tanks for years: They're down to 15 lbs now - 25% below capacity, because they know consumers are suckers who don't check the label and pay the price.
simkatu: Emergency scanner says 22 unaccounted for people now
DeadGeek: digitalrain: DeadGeek: Now a landfill has exploded?Huh? Linky please?Just heard in the audio from the Fark link.
bluorangefyre: I heard a larger tank was also obliterated.
DarkSoulNoHope: How much you want to bet that we will see a similar list of safety concerns to the plant in West Texas? I just have an odd feeling that Republican lead states don't care too much about the safety of the people (or much else regarding the general welfare of those people, unless they're obscenely wealthy)/I hope the casualties are minimal//hope something will be learned from this and applied before the next possibly preventable accident
tenpoundsofcheese: wouldn't have happened if they went solar.
Hollie Maea: This was almost me a few weeks ago. We had one (of 24) Silane exhaust lines go. Shook the whole damn building. If the main Silane store had gone, it would have blown us all to hell.
