6 injuries, no fatalities yet **. One critical burn. I only know the name because it's on the tank outside my house (grill, not a trailer, I know how you think.)

2013-07-30 01:16:05 AM
I thought Mythbusters proved that propane tanks couldn't explode.

2013-07-30 01:16:37 AM

bluorangefyre: I heard a larger tank was also obliterated.

A landfill with chemicals blew up as well?  Yep, typical Florida.

2013-07-30 01:17:45 AM

Runs_With_Scissors_: That's one hell of a perimeter.

5 airlifted, 1 transported by ambulance  Not fatalities reported. Yet..

OF course not.  Its hard to evac someone after they've been plastered onto a wall as a fine, red paste.  Hard to see them in smoke, as well.

Luckily it was the Blue Rhino plant, so it was only about 3/4 full.

Holy crow. Is there really a lumber yard near the plant? I've seen several Farkers mention it.

Per the WESH feed, they say 15 are unaccounted for.  Guess we'll know soon enough.  Eech, horrible either way.

15 is the number believed to have died in the West, Texas explosion, too.

Seriously though, we should be focused on getting ourselves off of fossil fuels. They are dangerous and polluting.

We need to start thinking about how we can move towards a majority of our power needs coming from renewables and not from fossil fuels.

2013-07-30 01:23:45 AM
At least the propane tanks aren't turning into missiles...

This Sheriff spokesman guys is not at all a dumbass. He's answering questions straight and saying he doesnt know about shiat he doesnt know the answer to.

Amos Quito: Blue Rhino has been steadily reducing the amount of propane that it puts in these tanks for years: They're down to 15 lbs now - 25% below capacity, because they know consumers are suckers who don't check the label and pay the price.

Guess I don't feel so bad now about trading my newish 'old' tank that had a valve like the top of the picture for a blue rhino with a valve like the bottom half, the year they started requiring the latter for refilling

The propane plant exploded, which cause a landfill to explode, which blew up a meth lab, which destroyed a trailer park, and someone will get away with murder. Any other Florida stereotypes we've left out?

There were 53,000 of the twenty pound propane tanks (the kind you use on your grill) at the facility.  Dammmmmmmm.......

Let's see... fifty-three thousand tanks at twenty pounds each... wow.  BUT there's no idea what percentage of that were filled or empty.

But still, all that LP is like one, maybe two Saturn V rockets blowing up.

I think they'll stand off and let it burn down

/propane doesn't really lend itself to sustained burns
//nice BLEVEs, though
///I have some experience with such matters
