Bathia_Mapes: ThatDarkFellow: Why did the trucks explode? Was this intentional or am I missing a part of the story?

From what they're saying on the live feed is that the semis near the plant were full of empty propane tanks, the kind you use with a propane barbeque, but that there's enough residue inside each one of them to make them explosive. One of the things the plant does is fill those propane tanks.

I just didn't know if they were close enough to ignite on their own or not. I only jumped in after all the ruckus slowed down so I wasn't sure if it originated there or if it was because of the first explosions/fires

Unfortunately, it was at night. No dice.

//What's up with these plants exploding?

Leaving the thread satisfied.

/I wish Hank Hill were my neighbor.  I tried to fire up the grill the other day and it's messed up.  I've got propane, but it's coming out before it gets to the burners.  I had to cook my steak in a frying pan.

If you have a police scanner app, tune into Lake County services.

Close, but no. I think it should probably decline to say the name on a public forum. There are lots of people on here who know where I work though....

Runs_With_Scissors_: I'm trying to find a link for fire department scanners. No luck yet.

Anyone?

I'm listening to "Lake County Fire-Rescue and EMS" using the Scanner Radio app on my Android phone.

You can listen using your computer by going to http://api.bbscanner.com/listen.php?id =323 and you can listen using your Android Phone by downloading the app from the Google Play Store by going to https://play.google.com/store/apps/det ails?id=com.scannerradio

How much you want to bet that we will see a similar list of safety concerns to the plant in West Texas? I just have an odd feeling that Republican lead states don't care too much about the safety of the people (or much else regarding the general welfare of those people, unless they're obscenely wealthy)

/I hope the casualties are minimal

FACTOID: Those barbecue tanks are designed to hold 20 lbs. If you take it to a local refiller, they'll fill it to 20 lbs.

Blue Rhino has been steadily reducing the amount of propane that it puts in these tanks for years: They're down to 15 lbs now - 25% below capacity, because they know consumers are suckers who don't check the label and pay the price.

No, you're not getting stronger, that Blue Rhino propane tank is getting lighter.

Not surprised at all.
I worked on Delta IV in California and watched from a distance as an untrained delivery driver used a steel hammer to free a frozen LH2 fitting. Had to yell at him using the facility PA system to tell him to stop and leave the area. Lucky he didn't kill us all. No surprise that it's one of the many reasons I don't work there anymore.

Runs_With_Scissors_: WESH Orlando has a chopper in the air and are covering it, as wel.

It's the Blue Rhino plant.

And a lumber yard next to it.

Propane and a lumber yard.  Something tells me a rail line and a trailer park and a prison are within walking distance.

So, I live near by where all this is going on. There was a steady stream of small explosions. I couldn't see the flames from here but you can hear it every time there is an explosion. I honestly thought it was a bit of heat lightning until neighbors came outside and the phone calls around town put it all together. At first we thought maybe a plane crashed at the Leesburg airport.

Probably didn't keep the tanks clean. If the tanks aren't shiny, they are absorbing too much sunlight and can heat up to explosive temperatures.

I'm about 30 miles from you, so I'm just getting it on the news. It's awful, awful stuff. I sitting here
watching and hoping to God those larger tanks don't go up.
