I'm sure that no one that is affiliated with Alabama football or the SEC (or boosters) has anything to do with that money.

While the kid seems like an utter moron and a waste of air that amount if money could be had via a 2 week paycheck from a summer job at the mall.

cameroncrazy1984: What is a "grip" of cash?

A lot of something, but it presumably originated by grabbing as much crap you could grip in your hand, IE someone who lets you pick your own halloween candy and you reach in there and take as much as you can grab.

I could br wrong and this is just pure speculation

It can't be tracked if you pay them in cash, guys. Nobody said they were stupid. If SMU taught boosters anything it's that no payment should ever leave a paper trail.

I hope the NCAA slaps his dumb ass for shiats and giggles it changes his name to Dee Clared Inelegible.

Dinobot: I hope the NCAA slaps his dumb ass for shiats and giggles it changes his name to Dee Clared Inelegible.

Slap him for what? Taking a picture of himself holding a couple hundred dollars? Didn't know that was illegal or some kind of rules violation. It may be immature and stupid, but come on the guy is 18, who didn't do something like that when they were that age?

Dee Liner:"Don't judge me when u have no clue what I have been through!!!"

To get that cash, presumably he went through a couple of boosters' bedsheets

Committed to one school, decide to go to a different one at the last minute, then pose with a couple grand? Seems like a good idea.

Then again, the NCAA didn't get Cam Newton (or his pops) because I'm sure that they turned down a couple hundred grand in order to play for free at Auburn. They just loved the school so much.

2013-07-29 09:09:07 PM
And you can be just as certain that head coach Nick Saban is in the process of determining exactly where on Liner's person he's going to rip the freshman a new one for putting himself out there like that exposing 'Bama boosters like that.

2013-07-29 09:14:32 PM
so? who cares if he has cash?  who cares if a booster gave him cash?  why would it be wrong for him to have cash?  i hope it is from boosters.

But if he were doping it would be the worst thing ever and we'd have to hate him forever for being a cheater.

I swear, I almost need a scorecard to keep track of what Fark finds permissible and what Fark finds reprehensible.

It's more of an issue because the NCAA would go on a witch hunt if a player at a smaller school got a free lunch (let alone cash).

You can argue that the NCAA sucks (and it does) but it is what we have right now and it is what we have to look at if a violation occurred (which there is no real sign that one did)

I think you have it right, based on thats what i was told by a few brown folks i used to work with. Grip of something, a whole gang of something else, etc. Mind you they mostly spoke ghetto Spanish.

Sometimes I think it only matters if you're outside the south.

Look at Miami and how the NCAA swept the issues under the rug handled it

In fairness Miami did a nice job of sanctioning themselves.

Nah. I see one Franklin on the end and one 20 somewhere in there (I'm assuming all the people are holding the same bills). Could be around $1000, which is kind of a lot to withdraw for posing purposes, but not THAT much.

They don't matter anywhere anymore.  Oregon was paying Willy Lyles to funnel recruits to them and they only lost like 2 scholarships over it. The NCAA doesn't enforce anything anymore.  Well unless you're a small school, then they seem to hammer them over little things for some reason.

It's the inevitable fall from dominance. Every tyrannical regime destroys itself from within. And when it happens to Alabama football, it's fun to watch.

Since it is the same week payment for Fall tuition is due at Alabama I imagine it is a Pell Grant payment.

It was probably his "housing allotment"; i.e., the actual cash salary that the players get.

Isn't he on an athletic scholarship?

Looks to me like an 18 year old being an 18 year old. Could simply be him and his friends pooling their money together to pose with it. If he suddenly turns up with a new ride, then it's time to get suspicious. Right now he looks guilty of being a teenage male with a bit of a look-at-me problem. One of the coaches should sit him down and have a talk with him about public perception.

Yes he is on an athletic scholly but they are still eligible for Pell Grants and many get them to pay for living expenses during the year.

But...but...we've been told they were enslaved to live in poverty by the NCAA.

Cataholic:

eggxactly.  Besides having all the basic living and education expenses paid for, they almost all get money from grants (which do not need to be paid back).  So if a kid is getting $10,000 in grants for a semester that is more than enough to live on and that is in addition to everything else they get.

2013-07-30 07:27:57 PM

baufan2005: Oregon was paying Willy Lyles to funnel recruits to them and they only lost like 2 scholarships over it.

If funneling recruits means "making it so recruits who wanted to go to Oregon could, because for some reason parents have to sign letters of intent normally and his mom didn't want him to go so far away." Seems kinda f*cked up that a kid's parents can/would prevent them from going to the school they want to go to.

Hang On Voltaire: Since it is the same week payment for Fall tuition is due at Alabama I imagine it is a Pell Grant payment.

I honestly would as well and I don't like most of the SEC. My buddy got one of his grants recently and was talking about how he had all this money now and pretending like he was going to buy everything he kinda liked.
