Looks like he just developed faster than his buddies and that field is about the size of my backyard.

Too bad his parents named him Spencer.

Yet another video I can't watch in its entirety due to crappy, unnecessary music.

Ok, first off, don't watch the video.  It's a kid swinging a bat and running the bases and the "videographer" is behind a chain link fence, recording with his camera on his phone.

Second,  I don't see the big deal.  At 6, the kid is good, but its a 6 year old pitching to him and he probably wouldn't be hitting homeruns if there wasn't a fence, their doubles if not caught.

/I remember playing in a league that had a field like that.  Kids were bombing it out pretty frequently.

Take a look at the kid's stance and swing, He's got the mechanics down better than some high-school players. At 6.

/no, I'm not going to have a seat over there, you sicko,,,

I don't think a 6 year-old was pitching to him.  At six, they're either hitting off of a tee or there's a coach who pitches and the "pitcher" stands next to the mound.  The pitcher is also usually a coach from his own team, or an impartial 3rd party adult throwing to the kids.  As a general rule, six year-olds don't have enough control to pitch...

They make kids wear motorcycle helmets to play ball now?

I was more thinking along the line of 'Younglings'

Very much this. Any kid can swing a bat, but he got the correct footing and bodyweight behind the bat at precisely the right time.

5 for 5 isn'y flukey

If hitting a spherical ball five times consecutively with a round bat is easy, why doesn't it happen more often during the MLB Home Run Derby?  There are dozens of variables including a pitcher who must throw it into a strike zone, or close thereto.

I don't believe this was accomplished in five consecutive at bats, each on the first pitch.  This is likely a proud Dad wanting to get YouTube hits for his kid, who is a great ball player.

Is it considered poor form to intentionally walk a 6 year old?

I think the earliest I started taking pitches from someone my age was around 11. Of course, that was far too early and I ended up taking a lot of pitches in the ribs. Lots of power, no accuracy. Once I was hit by a pitch in every at-bat in a game. And swinging? Ha. You'd get on base if you just stood there with the bat on your shoulder unless they threw a meatball just to ring up a strike.

I stopped shortly afterward. I'd like to say that I wanted to set the high score for .obp but I was too young to know what that meant and in reality I was just terrible.

At this level, they may not be counting balls and strikes, but if they are, the coach can simply tell the umpire his intentions and the kids trots to first with no pitches.  Very rare and a huge ego boost.

Oh, wait.  What?

THIS - the opposing team's jerseys are blue in the first three HR, green in the last two. This is daddy's version of mommy making an auto-tune music video for her beauty pageant daugher.

Also, whoever wrote that farking song should be shot

He should have been brushed back after the second HR.

Side-stepping the obvious for now, who commissions a baseball park the size of a living room and zones parking immediately beyond the outfield? Safelite sponsors little league now?

Pshhhhhawww..... 120 ft?!? I could hit it outta there no problem

At 6 years, it's either coach or machine pitch.  Kids usually do not pitch until 2nd grade depending on if it's official Little League or local rules.  That kid has better mechanics at the plate than half the team I coach (4th grade), so even if it is coach pitch, I am impressed.  Mom needs to film down the first base line from now on

Jesus! All you posters are super athletes! I am sure you are all just like the Dear Leader in your athletic skills. Must be great to be as awesome as you! He's six. Be impressed.

Just a little bit... but it's considered much worse to bean the little bugger. Especially if you are his coach,

2013-07-30 07:56:42 AM
Not from the same game. So how many at bats were there in between where he didn't hit shiat? I'm no super athlete but c'mon. Editing together an entire season of games to try and make him look like some kind of baseball prodigy is kinda dumb.

MizzouGuy: At 6 years, it's either coach or machine pitch.

Coach pitch.  On the first one, you can see the coach standing by the pitcher's circle after the kid hits the ball (0:18).  Then, after the kid rounds the bases, you can see the umpire toss him a ball as he heads back out to the mound (0:34).

Kids' swing looks like it came right out of a Tom Emanski video.

Some kids are just gifted athletes. My three year old son does a 45min soccer class once a week it's just a bunch of kids, bumbling around trying to do drills and not run into each other. There's a little girl in his class though that is just a gifted runner, watching her gate change as she goes from dead stop to full sprint and the way she changes direction is like watching a grown adult play soccer. She struggles trying to dribble the ball like any 3 year old would but once she breaks out in a run she's very elegant and in control.

2013-07-30 02:10:05 PM
they weren't all in the same game. the opposing team had different jerseys the last few shots, and the scores were all different on the score board each time

2013-07-30 07:50:31 PM
So in 9-10 years we will read about this kid taking a fastball to the temple and being in a coma the rest of his life for trying to upstage a pitcher...

//// hopes
